The grumpy thread

I've started using a radio alarm clock app on my phone again, I used to use it with Absolute Radio, but now that just elicits silence. So I switched it to Planet Rock, which worked fine for a couple of days, but this morning there was a message saying "this service will no longer be available in a few days, you can still listen on the website" which is just brilliant.

I don't know what station to try next, maybe 6 Music?

Road trip?

Two to avoid. The Esso and Shell stations in Penrith. £1.65 for v power ,  price fixing ( I mean matching ) in place.

Only seen dearer on the motorways.

TuneIn? Used to have a wide range of stations to listen to. Probably has all those you listed above.

Does it provide an alarm functionality though? That's the most important part. The message came from Planet Rock itself, I'm pretty sure the actual app will continue to function with a different station, I just don't know which will suit me.

If I can't find something that works I'll search out my DAB clock radio.

6Music is just outstanding, give it a go! This accompanies so much of my life. I find Mary Ann Hobbs choices not to my own but other than that I think it’s the best station I’ve ever heard. I do go back to Radio 2 for Jo Whiley sometimes but that’s about it.

Specifically alarm clock radio then you’ll be listening to Lauren Laverne and she has a pretty good range of tunes.

Cheers. There's one at the back of Cumnock (follow the road from Douglas into the back of Muirkirk if coming from the north) where the petrol was £1.32 for E10 95, now £1.35 the last time I checked.

Grumble grumble mystery appt

Watching motorway patrol maybe parky might be on ut 😛 @Parky

I’ll be the farmer with 4 tons of soil in a trailer made for 500kgs, the Maori lads in the lowered Corolla that’s just been green stickered and a $350 fine issued to, or the confused German tourist who just stacked his Toyota Hiace into the back of a Cop Commodore because he was watching porn on his phone.  One of those anyway!

unbelievably they don’t pull you over for having a shit looking car

Thankyou all very much for your kind words and wishes! You guys calmed my nerves on the way to my first date in years! 👍 👍 👍 😎😎

Anyway, I must apologise for the deviation from grumpiness. To make ammends, I'll say the excessive loudness of a Train Manager was grating on the journey to work today! 😤😤😤

Still suffering after covid. Not finished a meal for over a month. Knackered all the time - just want to sleep. No energy.

Starting to wonder if / when things will get better?

Er right. I don't think I'll be seeing any demonstrations (let alone any yellow jacket action) demanding to cut fuel duty any time soon. Besides, anyone could very easily spin the rising fuel costs as an incentive to buy an electric car.

Couldn’t agree more 😁

Grumpy here! Now 48 hours since my power went off when several thousand trees in the area came down in Storm Corrie or whatever they called it. This followed Storm Malik or whatever 48 hours before it from a different direction. A 6 mile journey yesterday took 19 miles and 4 roads before I found one not blocked by trees.

Last night was in front of the multi-fuel stove reading by candlelight. Today was spent getting a generator I was given 15 years ago working. As I am posting this, obviously I was successful :-)

Those are my go-to stations as well. 6music is alllllrrrriiigghht but I'm beginning to get really fed up with it. Not keen on Lauren Laverne's show in the morning, or Craig Charles in the afternoon (Shaun Keaveney was much better).

It's pretty good evening and night time though. I just wish they wouldn't give us the dumbed down BBC newsbeat shit every hour.

I've taken to cherry picking from BBC Radio 1 Dance programmes lately, pretty sure it's online/iPlayer only.

I'll just stick to West Sound. Even if it has become yet another faceless Bauer-dependent station. Tunes are good. Otherwise it's BBC R2 on a Saturday for the pick of the pops with that Canadian fucker that took ower fae Tony Blackburn.

People winging on the Jeep Cherokee forum, when they are daily driving a 20 odd year old 4x4 with zero maintenance and the original water pump fails so they put a picture up of a rusty water covered engine bay asking “is this normal?” and “why is this happening “ and “I thought these cars were supposed to be reliable” .

There seems to be a new breed of older/classic car owner that has absolutely no clue of how to look after/maintain a vehicle. They just seem to be able to wash it and put pics on Facebook

We're meant to be washing them and taking pictures now? Fucking hell, this classic car lark is getting far too involved for me!

Can you quickly explain this? Not heard that word before.

Why would you do that, more to the point?  '70s Maseratis are starting to be worth serious coin now.

Occasionally stupid people come into money, through good luck or by proxy. That’s the result you have there. Painted it purple and glued a shit bodykit on.

I'm very hopeful that actually this will become more widespread - loads of demand for classics has driven the prices out of my reach, however I had my suspicions that a lot of the people buying them bought the cars for the image and not because they enjoyed maintaining/restoring an older car.

The more that reality bites, the less attractive these cars will be and hopefully prices will drop as the novelty of either paying a specialist £100/hr to fix your 'cool old car' for the 11th time this month, or rolling around in the road outside your flat with your 'cool old car' on bricks then dropping the starter motor on your face, knocking out half of your freshly cosmetically whitened teeth because you couldn't hold the starter and watch the youtube tutorial on your phone at the same time will put people off.

Or maybe I'm wrong, again.

I only listen to Classic FM and that can be tiresome, adverts, news etc. Anything talky.

Half an hour ago while reinstalling Linux and repairing one of the kitchen chairs (multitasking see!) there was a competition to win a couple of days a Kew Gardens, the Eden Project or Harry Potter World, posh nosh and folding in yer pocket.

The answer was pretty simple, Rimsky-Korsakov's "Flight Of The Bumble Bee" with two vaguely similar answers.

And bugger me if they didn't play "Flight Of The Bumble Bee" five minutes ago.
