Have you apprised GD-L of the fact the starter could be fixed in half a day and be off their premises and not need shuffling about if they facilitate this? Left hand, meet right hand.

You're way ahead of me. Seriously though, I did mention this to them and after a bit of "internal discussion", this is exactly what they've done now.

Please don't laugh because, after they sent the starter away for reconditioning, I received an e-mail from another auto-electrical retailer saying that they did have the Mitsubishi-type starter in stock (which they had also started reconditioning) and did I want it? Now, this was like a red rag to a bull and I booked it immediately.

What's the betting that, now I have a spare one to keep in the shed, I'll never actually need it?

In other news, the MoT expired yesterday.

Not been sleeping well (at all) for ages so yesterday took HALF of a sleeping pill (prescription jobbies, from the actual Doctors) as a whole one makes me sleep too heavily. Slept for 14 hours on the floor

only to find the front door still wide open (for the dogs) and a feeling like I have died.

Still feel like death and I need to go out to get stamps etc. Think I may refrain from driving at all today as I really do not feel well/aware/alive at all. As I have managed three slight mishaps with the car in recent weeks I'd better start being more aware of my health when I drive!

Please note, one accident was a branch falling on the car as I drove by, one was the dog slamming into the door at warp speed 9 Captain and only one was me being a twat.

More checks and it is obvious the front plate that splits the phone and ADSL is borked.

that front plate is not really any different from any other ADSL splitter, so you can just remove it and shove any of the dangle-on-a-cable splitters that seem to be supplied by the thousand with every new router.  Worth keeping a couple of spares as they do fail every now and then (cheap capacitors I assume).

Freezer being off is not good news.  If you're going to be away a lot, then a big battery back-up UPS might be an idea for it maybe?  At least it only turned off a few days before you got back, and not a few days after you left...

Just watching a programme about cops on C5

Copper gets called to a guy brandishing a knife which he threatens the copper with so the guy gets the dog , only he slashes it across the face cutting an ear off then attacks the copper , even thogh the dog is badly cut he still responds to the command and goes in again , copper gets stabbed in the hand but the dog gets a grip of his wrist and he drops the knife

He gets arrested but unfortunately died on remand , shame

Then

They stopped a guy in an unmarked car doing at least 40 in a 20 , he gets out , seems OK, lot of cash in the car so they question him , as soon as they say are there any drugs in the car he's off in the car with a copper still hanging onto the door , it ends up with the copper deciding if he doesn't let go he's dead ,so he lets go at speed, broken wrist multiple lacerations

Gets to court , judge starts his summing up , protect the police etc etc they think yes he's going down

No , suspended sentence , where the fuck do they get these people from.

It costs around £40k a year to incarcerate a cat A prisoner. That's why there is a reluctance to send offenders down.

Then replace "incarcerate" with "incinerate", problem solved.

Seeing how deeply China has embedded itself into Britain, surely a deal could be done to ship our convicts off to one of the concentration camps in Xinjiang? Out of sight, out of mind....

I think one of the more 'sporty' Home Secretaries of recent years did ponder the idea of shipping lags off to somewhere cheaper; a Best Exotic Marigold Strangeways if you will.

Why the heck do breakdown companies seem to be universally incapable of keeping tabs on how long it will take to get to someone?  Every time you request an update (as per their instructions) it's always "about another half hour to an hour."

Posted

Because they often have to divert a patrol to somewhere else.  If you're not in a dangerous situation, but someone else calls in who is, they'll divert the patrol.

If you're a bloke on your own, pulled off the road in a low-risk situation, you're getting seen last.

Posted

True...but they could at least tell you that.  It's when they tell you things like "You're the very first person the driver will be seeing when he comes on duty in five minutes.." yet you're still there two hours later it grates.

If it's "an hour, subject to not being called out elsewhere..." Then just say that...

From memory, they also get paid by police /highways so that temptation will ALWAYS remain.

The AA does provide a mobile tracker app, so at least you can see when your nominated service(wo)man gets diverted elsewhere.

For the price the AA charge I'd expect them to deliver a brand new Rolls-Royce to my location for me to take to my destination while they recover, repair and fully valet my vehicle before dropping it at my door...

They have to charge that much, as they lost money every time they had to recover my CX from wherever it decided to down tools.

There's very clear camera footage. 2 registration numbers, clear sight of the people involved. If the police can't catch them, there's no point in having police at all.

The Astra will be passing through CCTV all the way home, so if the police can't get within 200 yards of them, they ain't trying hard enough.

Would have been tricky given I was driving at the time!

First time I've ever been stung just completely randomly like that without any reason or warning.

That was a morning of my life I won’t get back. Missed the FoD open weekend for 1 missed bin collection and continuing with my risk assessment type ups, only to be told I can’t use a workstation in the depot because risk of spreading. Yesterday I was told I could to save me dismantling the work from home setup.

Couldn’t leave depot as it has to be manned all morning and nobody else in.

I have a feeling tomorrow morning will be the same if I get a call.

I think London will soon suffer the ‘donut effect’ like a lot of big cities in the USA. When people with money simply move out of the centre as the crime is so bad, leaving just the scum behind so it gets worse.

Yep, who’d have thought slashing Police budgets would have had this effect?

The worst thing is when police budgets are cut, the crime figures often actually go down as there’s less police detecting crimes.

It has always been a shithole. Some bits of it are more expensive than others, and the whole is more expensive than almost anywhere else.

Still a shithole, though.

Update for you.......

Moppy is still in the PM. The question is he still in charge?

Boris Johnson and his fiancée Carrie Symonds, 32, have been spending their holiday on the Scottish coast
