Aren't they a body off job on later Land rovers?

Meh, cut the rotten end off & join it. I'd be very surprised if the whole pipe was rotten.

Black lines have just appeared on my tv screen tonight, checked email for receipt, I bought it just over a year ago so Tesco won’t be interested in replacing it. :(

Under EU law electrical items have to be fit for purpose which includes a life of at least three years for things like TVs. Oddly a lot of retailers accidentally forget they are subject to such laws. Gently remind them (shouting at the top of your voice on a Saturday afternoon in your local store) and they will sort it.

Posted

As above.  Consumer Rights Act 2015.  You're covered.

No receipt?  No problem, if you paid by debit/credit card.  You'll have a record of the transaction in your statements.

Posted

That's the Consumer Rights Act. It states goods need to be fit for purpose for a reasonable time.

As it's more than 6 months old you (the consumer) need to be able to prove a fault or manufacturing defect was present at time of purchase. This is normally done by googling model number and symptoms etc.

To help, the retailer should offer to inspect it FOC and issue an independent report as to whether it's an in-life failure, damage or manufacturing fault.

If it's a low priced item (i.e. a £200 TV rather than a £2000 TV) then the effort of dealing with this is usually greater than the cost of just replacing it, so it's worth doing your research and politely asking for the CRA investigations to be done. That will get you a lot further than making a scene in store.

I used to do SOGA inspections (what the CRA equivalent was prior to 2015) and a polite letter meant the problem was dealt with much faster than a know it all shouty tosser where I would drag my heels for weeks.

Note that they can offer a repair instead of replacement.

Remembering at 1AM the thing you meant to pick up at the shop earlier. Belt dressing, to try to sort the periodic squeaking from the belt on the Merc.

I'm grumpy about the fact that after 20+ years of messing about with shite that I have only just found out about the product that is 'belt dressing'  - OK its a stop gap/mini bodge, but what a wonder. How did I not know?

Its got me thinking about what else I might not know about.

That's exactly how it should be, too. No reference to anyone on here, but the world is full of smart arses who want to kick off right from the word go, rather then try and resolve things peacefully first. Fair enough, if you've tried a couple of times being polite then get shit back, by all means get a bit irate, but manners maketh the man and as you quite rightly pointed out, get the problem dealt with quicker.

I tweeted them this morning and they are looking into it. I have read online about things you can look for inside the TV to sort it, dry solder joints, etc but I think once I remove the cover I won't be able to return it.

I'd be very surprised if there's any warranty seals, I've not seen one on a TV ever - in fact most TVs have clearly labelled test points with expected voltages.

However if you're not familiar with the inside, you'll either not spot what you're looking for or you'll give yourself a cracking shock off the power supply which retains mains voltage even when unplugged.

Black bands are normally the very thin flex cables have dry joints, they're such a fine pitch you'll not see them by eye and if you go poking them you can crack the cable, at which point the retailer can rightfully tell you to FRO.

Couldn't agree more, i find being an amicable person in my day to day dealings works well, but when I do get angry when someone is pissing me off it has a greater impact and makes people stand and pay attention because it's literally the polar opposite to my baseline (I don't really like the angry side of me though to be fair)

Bit confused with the whole 164 situation to be honest. The buyer called yesterday saying he was coming over today to view it. Not to take it away. Just view it and make sure it's roadworthy.

Is this just a prank that'll keep going until the MOT runs out or something?

He hasn't showed up yet either.

Okay, obviously me posting that prompted him to arrive.

Fair play, he's actually a proper car guy and took the front brake apart to ensure it doesn't stick on when he drives it back.

He even owns a Fiat 132.

I'm going to take back all the ill I have spouted now.

Only 8 of those currently running in Britain. Supposedly.

Robins and Rialtos hold their money stronger than I thought tbh - are they still popular with bikers as winter wheels or has that license loophole closed now?

Posted

They do seem to fetch serious coin now. £500 for a pair - fully working and legal - seems to be very cheap. The only ones I've seen lately under four figures have been total wrecks; and Dollywobbler's engine search for something to power the Fox indicated that the days of £250 Reliant 3-wheelers are long gone.

That is deeply annoying though, especially as you and others could have used them. A former neighbour had a gardenful of Skoda Estelles belonging to her sons who used to rally them, and paid for the scrappie to come and lift them all (early 2000s, when scrap was worthless) because she didn't think anyone would want them. There was a decent-looking bright orange 1977 example in amongst them, too.

Work.

At our work we have two shifts...

06:00 until 16:00 Tuesday to friday, every Monday off.

07:00 until 15:00 Monday to Thursday and 06:00 until 14:30 on fridays.

Ever since this started three years ago the reality has been that the 06:00 until 16:00 workers are usually out of the door and going home about two hours early most days, sometimes even earlier. They still get paid until 16:00.

The 07:00 until 15:00 workers, who are mostly garden waste crews usually go home well after 15:00 and sometimes as much as two hours late.

Quite a few off the long shift then get to come in on mondays and do various jobs while getting paid overtime.

If I get my work finished and get back to the yard early i get sent out to do other jobs, that is fair enough, but what pisses me off is seeing other people go home.

Today was a case in point, I returned two hours early and got given a stack of bin deliveries to do, again, that's fair enough. I had to rush to get them done and when I got back to the yard the second time two hours later there were other people going home two hours early for them.

The manager just doesn't understand why this pisses me off.

I resurrected an old Espero

Once Mot’d I just could not find the V.5c I knew I had. Bum.

So I sent a cheque to DVLA.

Eventually I enquired, to have explained they had never received it .( Royal Mail, yadda yadda).

I let him run for a while, then quietly explained that the cheque had cleared 8 weeks ago.

Confusion - then another in the post - which happily arrived today.

Deep joy, until I spotted that the tax class ( prev plg) was now Disabled. Spiteful....

So, a trip to the P.O. to sort, next Saturday. They can stuff this month.
