  1. I had an old Z400 a few years ago. It had straight through "silencers" on it, I think they were Dunstall Decibels. It had a mechanical regulator/ rectifier on it and in pre internet days I couldn't find any parts for it, or even a manual. The Speedo never worked, but it would buzz along happily flat out as long as my ears could take it. I used to ride around with a spare battery and swap them over when one went flat. Couldn't wait to get rid of it especially as it was my only transport and after a year I bought a 350LC and gave the Zed to my brother. The funny thing is after I had tidied it up and got rid of the ridiculous rear mudguard for a shorter one, it was a real.looker, I always used to look over my shoulder at it when walking away. Never liked it when I had it, but for the last few years I wish I still owned it as a second bike. These days with the internet and a bit more knowledge and money in my pocket it would be fixed and maybe I would enjoy riding it more.
  2. When I was a CBT instructor, as part of my safety talk I used to talk about protective clothing, I knew it would fall on stoney ground a lot of time, especially with the 16 year old lads, but I would try and make it interesting and make them see the point in wearing it. I used to ask them "what's the first thing you do if you are running along and you trip?" The answer was generally "You put your hands out." if there was no answer I would put my hands out in front of me and say "that's what you do, it's instinctive, now imagine doing that at 30mph or more." I would then talk about all the grit and muck you would get in the wounds in your palms and the unpleasant ways the nurses would deal with it, basically trying to make it sound as unsavoury as possible. One day I had three sixteen year olds on their first CBT and a thirty something who used to ride in the eighties and now wanted to get his full licence, so was taking his first steps towards that by doing his CBT. While I was talking I suddenly realised that he had extended both arms out and had his hands on the table, palms upwards and was just looking at the three 16 year olds. I cottoned on quite quickly. So I said to him... "You know what I'm talking about from experience, don't you?" He replied, "Yup, RD125LC, no gloves on, when I was 18." So I let him take over for the next few minutes and he described exactly what it felt like when his hands slapped the hot tarmac, and what it felt like when they were cleaning up the wounds and trying to get all the bits of gravel out in A&E (they failed, there were still a few bits in there, you could feel them), every little detail, right down to going to the toilet with heavily bandaged hands. I think it was they only time I ever managed to get the message across to everyone.
  3. I was talking to my nephew on the phone last night, about the old Mtx200 he said it was the first bike he ever rode. I mentioned the lack of pistons and he did a bit of Googling and found some, it seems someone is manufacturing them again, the listing also mentioned Lambretta's, so that is probably where the market lies. It was over a decade ago when we were looking for one.
  4. I had a lorry blow one of it's trailer tyres out on a motorway as I was overtaking it in a car once, luckily I was level with the cab, it still made me jump out of my skin though. My brother had a lorry tyre blow as he was going slowly past a parked car, the force of the air escaping dented the door of the car. Very scary things.
  5. The feller in the first few seconds of this video is sitting astride a Honda C90 going down the road without wearing a crash helmet, totally legal. Always makes me laugh.
  6. My mate had one of those about ten years ago and it blew up. Even then Honda didn't supply pistons for them unbelievably, for a two stroke. I remember him searching for months Eventually I managed to find a second-hand piston and barrel on eBay, they weren't great, but they had to do. He fitted those and got rid of it, a bloody shame because it was a pretty decent bike, with a fair amount of power and hardly any weight.
  7. I once kept up with a mate on acceleration riding a 250 Superdream. I was two up, he was on an XT500, I couldn't believe how slow that thing was. Now people are paying fortunes for them. I did own a 400 Superdream for a while, that was actually a decent bike.
  8. Xtriple, one of my motorcycling influences was the Z1R, I was to young to ride, but there was a bloke in the village with one, he used to blast it past the school bus most mornings at big speed. To a teenage lad who didn't even own a bicycle (seriously, I didn't get a bicycle until my fifteenth birthday, I was definitely not a spoiled child.) this was the coolest thing ever. I just knew that one day I would own a big powerful bike and I did and still do and always will. So your generation, who were slightly older were the coolest. Forgive the ramblings, alcohol is my friend this afternoon and OP your car is really nice, I would rather own that than the modern I have got.
  9. I haven't seen a MBX125 for years. Cool.?
  10. I would like to take a two door Sierra, with the longer front doors, put the shorter front doors from a four door Sierra on it, then cut the shell shorter to fit up to the doors at the B pillar. Overall, in my head, the result would be a shortened "Sprint" version of a Sierra, a bit like Audi did with the Coupe/ Quattro. If someone could Photoshop this, then it would show what I am trying to describe.
  11. I suppose a sidecar doesn't really make much sense on paper and I couldn't begin to explain why I have wanted one for decades, but then I wouldn't be able to explain why I grew up wanting a motorbike more than anything either, but I did. I have ridden through enough winters to know how to stay dry, anyway I have another bike and a car, so this is a recreation vehicle and they don't have to make sense Having been taken for a spirited ride in it by the previous owner, I know what sort of performance and handling it is capable of. I am still learning to ride it, it is a difficult journey, but once I master it, I should be able to carry a decent tent, booze and camping equipment when I go to bike rallies. And my little un loved her very slow ride home from school today.
  12. I have been unlearning how to ride a motorbike this week. and learning how to ride this...
  13. I remember it well, it actually made the mainstream news, I had split up from my first wife and was back living with my Mum. I was upstairs watching tv and she shouted up the stairs to turn the news on, I was absolutely bloody shocked, I don't know, I just assumed the man was immortal. What a man he was, twenty years on and I have never read a bad word about him, absolute legend and there aren't many of those in a lifetime. I bought the video of his life from a motorcycle dealers not long after and the bloke on the counter said I wouldn't be able to keep a dry eye when I watched it. He was correct...
  14. We had a bin lorry catch fire a couple of years ago and my loader took a photo of it, within three minutes he got a phone call from the office telling him to remove it from Facebook, that was before the Emergency Services had even arrived.? it would seem our Council can be efficient at something... You don't ever do Singleton do you? My old Mum was brought up there
  15. I spend my day spotting cars on the rounds, but would get into trouble if I posted any on the net, I wish it weren't so. Some of the highlights are... The little Datsun 1200 that Spottedlaurel has, when it's original owner had it. A G reg mk1 Capri. A Skoda Estelle. A house with four really nice Scorpio shaped Granadas and a Cougar outside. A Mazda 323 Turbo 4x4. A really long Pigsnout Transit van/ pick up. This maybe the one that was on a thread in here a few months ago. The one that had me most amazed was a Vauxhall Firenza Droopsnoot, I only got to find that one because the cover blew off it, I had been wondering what it was.
  16. Is that Transit from Norfolk? There used to be one just like that on my round over ten years ago, then it disappeared.
  17. Liked because there isn't a not like button.

  19. Has Autoshite turned into Pistonheads?
  20. I saw that on he Thickthorn roundabout yesterday, I did wonder what it was for a second.

  23. We finished our work early today, so we were given some bin deliveries to do. One of the service requests we had, stated... Reason for new bin... Grafiti, someone has drawn a penis on the side of the bin and we can't get it off. My advice to tell them to rub a bit harder wasn't acted upon.
  24. A nice Scammell and a Minor sitting in that barn. I wonder how they got over there?
  25. Got home from work today and got out of the car, only to notice that the front part of the roof rail has disappeared, ffs! I still haven't got the big scrape that appeared on the corner of the front bumper fixed. So now my previously pristine car is looking like a heap of shite. FFS.
