You know CarParts4Less is just another trading name of ECP?

Indeed, so I should know better. I mean, just how pissing useless is the budget arm of ECP going to be? Very, it turns out.

Will chalk paint work outside?

According to the Annie Sloan website, it does. I would seal it with wax or lacquer though

Thrifty / Dollar.

Thrifty are full of win - best U.K. rental I’ve had and I’ve tried most

Dollar gave me a ‘stang convertible in the states too

I like painting wood, paint choice is important though.

I usually use water based primer as it dries fast giving me time to flat it off a bit to get rid of brush strokes or roller effects. I prefer oil based gloss though as the water based paint means well but just isn't quite as user friendly. Or shiny.

Have you considered Chalk paint? That's wonderful stuff to use and looks gr8 on furniture

I have been using water based undercoat and gloss for years now and each time it evokes maximum grumpiness and a resolution to never use it again.  Doesn't cover, gloss just isn't and it is ropey to boot.

Was using my long dormant pasteboard at daughter's new house and decided to freshen it up.

Johnstone's alkyd u/c and gloss from B&M.  Felt lovely to have 'proper' paint again and board came up a treat - even bought new shiny screws and a leather handle for it.

It will now go back in the attic for another ten years :)

(had it since 1963 :)  )

Also - Aldi synthetic bristle brushes - superb and cheap enough to use and dump but better than the Purdy and Hamilton's ones I tried - at around £20 a shot, fifteen years ago.

They just didn't work with acrylic undercoat and gloss, ruined them in no time flat.

Some people really do deserve a kicking regardless of the consequences,

FF to 2:45 , you need the sound on to hear it

Video has been removed.  Interesting.

Stupid anti collision system in the rental HRV hurt my neck this evening. As I approached the exit barrier at work, I started to lean out to swipe my access card to exit. However the car decided I should be braking, rather than rolling slowly to the barrier (got this routine well timed) and decided to slam on the brakes. :/

Yep...hate these systems.

Had the one in the Golf Estate we had last year (that car was cursed I reckon) decide to trigger on the M6 one day - no idea what set it off. All we knew was that we were doing 70mph, then were in the middle of an emergency stop. Thank goodness we weren't in heavy traffic or we'd probably have had someone parked in the boot.

Ta for that. I just got £10 off a new skateboard deck....er....for my son. Yeah, Definitely for him, otherwise it might look like I'm having a midlife crisis or something.

Skateboard arrived.

But i didn't order truck bolts to attach the wheels to the board. Fuksaxe. I assumed they would come with the trucks.

Found a solution though.

I’m prepared for the hatred...

Me and my buddy have PCP cars, she has a DS3 I have the Cacti obviously.

Hers is due a service, but she didn’t want to pay main dealer prices. If you use “genuine Citroen parts” then you can get it serviced anywhere. She rings the Citroen specialist place... “I’m sorry, we’re not vat registered. We can’t do it”

I check the Citroen service website and it’s £165, but the website stops working so she rings Evans Halshaw. “Yep, that’ll be £299.” She explains that the official Citroen website is £165. “Erm, that’s a big price difference we’ll have to get back to you to authorise”

I assume Evans Halshaw say that washer fluid is recommended replacement and is only £75.

I’m taking the Cactus in at the same time for a service and I have a recall, plus I need to check my doors as alot.... a fucking lot. Of Cactus owners have had all four doors replaced due to rust.

Oh and another £100 tyre needed, due to a nail and I refuse to put Pjangwangtang tyres on it.

Why would anyone hate you for that? I'm just feeling sorry for you.

This is the problem for most people, the cheeky twats at the main dealers. I don't know where they get their pricing strategy from. I'd be sceptical about using elsewhere while its in warranty, they say you are 'OK' to use an independent garage to service it but I'd have a feeling if you took it back for warranty work they'd find fault with whatever the other garage had done. Then you would effectively be on your own, these people are seriously tricky fuckers, I wouldnt trust a word they say about being able to have it serviced anywhere.

Quite like the cactus though, quite utilitarian. Definitely have on when they're in shite territory.

Nobody hates you for that, doesn't suit me but it does you end of. If nobody bought new cars the ones I buy wouldn't be so worthless.

I’m 3 months overdue for the first service, so I suspect they’re gonna fuck me.

Posted

Pretty sure the right to have it serviced somewhere other than the main dealers without affecting the warranty was enshrined in law by the EU. Providing you use genuine parts as said.

Being 3 months late for it on the other hand, you could have a problem there.

The Citroen specialist must be tiny if they're not Vat registered.

I’m thinking they deal in cash a lot....

.....

If I wanted to be a prick.

I won’t, just that that service stamps are bollocks.

Oh just fuck off. I've not even sorted the gouge someone took out of the rear wing of the Saab without leaving a note yet.

Citroen servicing is amazingly expensive - they wanted £500 to do my van’s first (which is actually a bigger service than most because it’s on 2 year / 30k intervals)

Good man, there's already more than enough hate in the world, and expressing sympathy nourishes the soul, hate eats away at it.

That said, contempt is a happy medium and rather underutilised these days.

You have my sympathy, utterly frustrating when stuff like that happens.

Any CCTV that might help?

Good luck with proving it was done to Citroens 'exacting' standards. They'll look for any get out clause possible in the event of something like the engine going bang. They'd say the 'essential' software updates weren't done and that's why you've got a £4500 bill after it shits the bed on the motorway.

Wow angle, what's that all about?

Footprints over the car to go with it?

Motion sensing dashcam might be in order.... :-(

If it’s a lease/PCP they can tell you where to have their car serviced if they want to.....

The late service might be a real source of financial pain when it goes back

No idea. It's the only car that's been hit, and no other damage (so at least it's just £75 excess to get sorted). I have a cheapo dashcam that's wired in with the ignition - I reckon plugging it in and pointing it out of the living room window might be an idea for the next few nights...

(Remember that its a heated windscreen when the insurance comes to replace it - rare option on them. Hopefully they will be able to get a replacement.)

Autoglass have said a replacement heated screen won't be a problem, but it'll be a week before they can do it, so plans to go camping this weekend are off. Still, that's more time to see precisely how bad my bodywork skills are on this:

(Obvs I know the answer is 'terrible', I'm using the arch repair on the Wilsonx3 Mercedes as my yardstick)

Note to self - maybe Tesco insurance did know what they were doing when they doubled your premium for moving half a mile up the road?

Yes they really get you by the old testes with the day of reckoning when you take it back. A guy I worked with ended up refinancing onto another, with the deficit tacked on. This happened twice over, in the end he was paying something like £350 a month on an Ibiza.

If I'm right in thinking stuff like a Merc or a Audi is cheaper than the Korean stuff that's worth fuck all after 3 years due to the depreciation.

Some seem to be over 24 months as well, which I'm guessing would avoid an extremely costly service as well?

Heard a story about someone having to replace a tyre when they handed theirs back as it wasn't an acceptable premium brand.
