Woah woah woah cobblers.

Which engine code is the 1.6td? And where are you?

If it's an SB it's a way better engine than the Sharan one for my Scirocco.

Supposedly from a mk2 golf gtd but there's no intercooler with it so who knows. It'd fly into a scirocco.

It's got a turbo, alt and diesel pump on it. It's in Rotherham. £80?

FOOOOOOOK. I only got the Sharan as I couldn't find one of them.

Chalk my name on it. PM sent.

Edit: I'll have a word with my VW fiddler mate and see if he wants the gearboxes too.

I spent four grand over 10 years storing a load of XM bits I ended up mostly giving away.

C'est la vie.

I ordered a pair of indicator bulbs for the mazda - is it too much to ask that they be the same colour ?

eBay seller was very apologetic and is sending a replacement out straight away, I wonder what colour that one will be :)

Twin filament amber bulbs? What?

In case you need to REALLY indicate rather than just a little?

I can't believe I've paid monthly rent on that lot of shit.

Scrap all the shit and buy a car to keep in the garage. Cost of garage justified = WIN.

US-spec DRLs?

that's the ones, I bought a set of clear lens sidelight indicator units for the mazda that came with these us spec twin filament bulbs, they glow dimly as sidelights and flash bright as indicators. probably not road legal but they do look nice.

Sent two shitters to cartakeback after being let down by eBayers.

This may be my preferred disposal method from now on. Less fuss, a guaranteed sum and they turn up when stated.

We're going to lose thousands of future classics this way when they're at the bottom of their depreciation curve. Sellers have had enough. I know I have.

Try removemycar too - they're better payers in my part of the world. Guess their fees are lower because it'll be the same scrapers.

Just tried the plates and they'd have offered me zero for both cars.

Fair enough. Depends on location I guess.

CTB is god awful around here.

why cant technology just fucking WORK?

I found some music I have been looking for for a very, very long time on youtube. I googled it and its apparently easy enough to rip audio so I used the first link google suggested. It turned the audio into MP3 and I downloaded them. Hundreds of mb per file, which since my connection runs at 0.7mb at best, a not insignificant downoad time.

Grand though - worth waiting for. Except each file cuts out after 15 minutes or so. Tried various different players, but fucking NOPE - wont play.

Ok, its hardly the end of the world and I can look up my youtube history to find the clips again and try another audio ripper but why the fuck do I have do do it twice? I thought the whole point of computers is blah blah blah moan moan fucking moan etc.

tl:dr - can anyone recommend a thing to download audio from youtube?

Try jdownloader. Just be mindful of the installer trying to install unwanted shite. I did link to the clean installer, but still. It also works with those "one click hosters" if you ever use them.

There are various plugins for browsers but the ones for Chrome don't work on Youtube because Google say so. If you use Firefox try "flash video downloader".

Finally moved that desk out of my neighbours' house, and into mine. With this all done I set up my new monitor speakers for the Yamaha DX7 I'm getting for Christmas, and dug the keyboard out to see if it'd fit and how it sounded. After using it for a couple of minutes some bad smelling comedy smoke came out of the keys, and it started powering on and off on its own. I did knock it a bit on the way home because the cheap keyboard bag I bought in a hurry turned out to be a POS that couldn't carry the weight, so I'm worried it might be my fault, but equally I'm wondering if I can get any recourse from the music shop I got it in (typically it's in London).

Fuck sake, that's a £200+ brick unless I can find out what's wrong with it (I hope it's not serious).

edit: blown capacitors? seems to be a power supply problem.

Also just had to do a £20 refund for something on eBay because it's more broken/temperamental than I thought it was.

I have been using this for a while now: YouTube to MP3 Converter

Used to be, with Linux, that the video you were watching was in the temporary files folder - changing the name stopped it evaporating once finished.

Can never find it these days.

Dave, if you send me the youtube links I'll rip the audio and then bung it on a cloud somewhere for you.

Or Dave's secret Santa match could message you and a old fashioned cd or cheap pen drive could work it's way into the shite Santa gift?

Thankyou for the offers, but I think I have it sorted - downloading now.

I never did secret santa this year as its unfair on whatever poor sod has to spend 15 quid to send me a fivers worth of stuff.

You are talking about people who buy a ticket for a £5 car which will cost £600 to collect. Logic doesn't apply.

Bought Parky Jr some very nice Basketball boots. He plays for his school so it's part fashion/part sports kit and you know what kids are like these days about labels, etc.

He found a pair he liked colour combo he wanted was only offered in the US. No problem, found a reputable site for a Californian Nike retailer and placed an order. All sent registered guaranteed UPS according to the site so I was fairly happy. Price was about the same as in the UK so I thought they were kosher.

Well they arrived yesterday in a box covered in Chinese writing.....alarm bells stated to ring. Some investigation suggested they were fakes and a trip to the Nike store revealed that the bar codes and serial numbers are not registered to Nike in the UK or US. The cheeky counterfeiting bastards.

Thank Christ I paid on my Visa card as you can do charge back against this sort of thing. I know some people think knock-offs are OK but only if they are mega cheap and obviously fakes but Christ knows what sort of terrorist/triad gang I have inadvertently funded. Also need to cancel my credit card as I have innocently given my details to these scumbags. That's twice in a month I have been scammed so I think my New Years resolution will be cash only.

Finished writing the piece for 'The Spirit' magazine.  I had forgotten just how bloody hard it is to keep words down and how fucking long it takes to do! Spent days on the bastard and it's still massively too long! Just sent the lot off and let the editor sort my mess out!

I just use youtube-dl with youtube-DLG GUI.

^Thanks for that - I do look occasionally on what download programs are available but haven't done anything about it.

As said, it used to be deadly simple.

Great plan, you're turning left and it's going to be your responsibility to make sure some deliveroo tosser isn't coming up the inside asking for a squashing? Why not have a "no overtaking on the inside" rule instead, like for the rest of vehicles?

Posted

That looks superficially a good idea - it hasn't happened to me (mainly cos I hardly ever ride a bike) but being left-hooked is no fun.  With that said, I cannot imagine how in the name of flip the poor drivers of artics and buses in London would ever be able to turn left again.

In the olden days when you could still have a laugh, my mate set one of his washer jets so it soaked any cyclists coming up the inside.

FUCK OFF YOU SELF-ENTITLED TWATS!

Why can't cyclists follow the universal rule of the road: don't fuck with anything bigger than you.

These sort of people make me ashamed to call myself a 'cyclist' and instead I just refer to myself as a person who sometimes rides a bicycle.

Posted

For fucks sake man pull yourself together. It's a rule that puts a responsibility on the driver to check he's not going to squash anyone when he turns left. What exactly is the problem?

Yeah of course bikers should not come whanging through on the nearside, but loads do. If they get cleaned up its them who's going to suffer. A rule that puts some responsibility on the driver to check for these people is perfectly sensible.
