What shite would you be driving in 1979?

In 1979 I had a few cars, my first been a Triumph Herald estate - GTK 547F. Then I had a Cortina II 1500 super - GTL 529E and a 1600E - TLO 540G.

I had a brief fling with a Hillman Hunter 1725.

I saw the year out with a Renault 12.

My first year on four wheels that was.HPL 375K, a sky blue (and rust) Fiat 124 ST.

Dougie was it's nickname. I drove it a few times. Both Greenland recovery wagons survive.

Well seeing that a C1 is the cheapest car in the Citroen range and 40 years ago an 8 year old car would be from 1971 I guess it'd be a Citroen Dyane!

Erm. Bit of a struggle as a 35 year old Honda wouldn't be a thing in 1979. Nothing Triumph were doing at the time really matches up age wise so I reckon my daily would be an early 1940s Standard 12...

The Dolly would be a Triumph Super 9...

Those thirties and forties Triumphs / Standards would have been quite expensive in 1979, probably worth more back then than they are now in real terms so a fifteen year old Herald or twenty year old Standard would be more shitely.

If you'd asked me three years ago, I had a 50 year old Ford and a 50 year old Citroen. So we'd be looking at a 1928 Ford and a whatever Shitroen was being driven by the French bourgeois.

The rate that cars age and are scrapped on average is different,  as are the  brands themselves and a whole load of other variables, but—-

1999 rover 820- in 1979 that would be from manufacturer that went belly up as an independant entity By the mid 60s and a mid sized/large saloon with a bit of an image problem from the late 50s hmmm some sort of borgward or maybe a Daimler conquest type thing?

2000 avensis  British made minicabbers favourite, out of production a decade or so, bland but dependable hmmm 1959 BMC farina

Current family car (which i hate) is a 5 year old Ford Grand Cmax Titanium so in 1979 i guess a 1974 Transit Minibus would have been the closest thing back then.

My daily driver/2nd car/work hack is a 11 year old Skoda Fabia diesel Sport so again in 1979 that would be a 1968 Skoda 1000 MB (no diesel options back then)

My Ital van is 35 years old this year so in 1979 it would be something like a 1944 Morris Z Series Van

and lastly the Marina Estate is 42 so some kind of 1937 Morris van with windows cut in the sides?.

I'm driving a 9 year old French van, badged as a Fiat but it's definitely a Citroen really, so I guess the equivalent would be a 1970 HY van with some suitably dangerous benches bodged into the back for the children.
