That brings back teenage curvature memories (and the ergonomic ICE setup for the driver)

Has it even been explained who *exactly* decided on that madness in BL?

16-yr old me tried to fit an 'AUDIOLINE' pull out stereo (purchased from Blaydon car boot sale) in the curvy dash of my Morris ital. The stereo was too deep and bumped into the heater box behnd the dash. SO I got an extension bar and hammer and smashed a big hole in the heater box so the radio would go in properly. First time i left it out in the rain, the back of the radio got doused and buggered it up. Now I had no CHOONZ and a big fucking hole in my heater box. Skillz

Wasn't Noel Edmonds the official importer of those?

Would an 81 have the revised front suspension?

What revision was that?

Anyway, Marina development history apart: Metro-based track toy. Far more interesting* than all of those Lotus 7 clones.

From the aronline article.

That wasn’t quite the end of it, though. In September 1982, the Ital range received its final model tweaks. The basic L models and the 2.0-litre version were dropped, and the HL and HLS were replaced by the SL and SLX models. Although that didn’t seem much, the Ital did receive a new front suspension set-up, which drastically improved the way it handled.

So no.

My dad had an Ital estate as a rep car briefly, orange 1.7. I remember he almost got it stuck on a building site once which made a very young me in the back cry 😆

Marina suspension.

This has piqued my interest as it seems too near to the end of the model's life to bother to redesign suspension. According to Wiki, September 1982 and front dampers were changed to telescopic and rear springs were changed from multi leaves to parabolic. Perhaps the lever-arm damper makers (Armstrong) went out of business?

now down to £895

Highly tempting. Unfortunately this would be the longest "drive to an mot station" anyone would have ever attempted.

My guess is that:

1) BL muddled decision making and departments not talking to each other,

2) Maestro and Montego programmes overrun so the Ital replacement date is later than planned,

3) Marketing demanded an upgrade to this piece of shit because customers were discovering rivals that had front wheel drive, more interior space, a non-stupid dashboard and suspension that didn't date from the 1950s.

In other words this was a stopgap to try and retain at least some customers.

But it is an interesting* aside for a BL nerd like me. Huge want for a late SLX estate with all the 'toys' (I can't imagine what they would be though).

I do have a trusted local chap who would probably take it for you (he does work on my cars including pre-flight MOT checks), but he's rarely available at short notice. Sadly I have no-where I could store it for you.
