Ha! I saw that earlier and thought 'I should read up on that car' as there is no information on the listing. I remembered vaguely they were Reliant-based but nothing more. There is a great website dedicated to them, and predictably the bloke who built them is a grade-A nutter with some very Brexity overtones. Here's a good quote:

"During the motor show, a team from Japan spent most of the show on our stand. Within 3 months of this visit, they had started a development programme with mission statement that looked very much like our press release. To date, they have sold one million of them, and this shows the viability of the Cipher design."

Cos you always here people describing the MX5 as 'a modern-day Stevens Cipher' or 'A Stevens Cipher for the '90s' etc

Yes, and nobody else ever made a small two seat open roadster with pop-ups and Minilites so they must have copied him.

I’m astonished Mazda didn’t stick with the facelift Marina rear lights, to be honest. They go so well with the doorhandles.

On the subject of kit cars, quite tempted to get a slightly tatty Douglas Leopard JBA Falcon one day.

Having based my professional* career on the Clive Owen character in Chancer, apart from the bit when he was in prison (so far), it only seems right to have the car to go with it.

Pete @Bfgwas involved in this too, I’m sure he wrote some stuff about it here

In fact this green one was owned by @speedy555

Fibreglass, low volume, commercially failed venture and a plucky underdog of a car - I’d love one😀

They did a hardtop as well which is very appealing

One came up at Brightwells 18 months ago, @Stevebrookman posted it here:

But yes, I agree they were like hen’s teeth new and must be almost extinct now. I can’t recall ever seeing one in the wild.

I think the five-speeders were badged as VX490. About twenty years ago my mate was intent on buying an FD 1600 from a chap in Kent who also had two 490s. Both looked quite good at first, until you looked underneath. Even then the box was where the money was. Think I saw another at one of the Billing Aquadrome Vauxhall meetings a couple of years later.

That Citroen is beautiful but it can't hold a candle to this weird Mahindra shitbox

This looks like a bulldog licking piss off a thistle

Wow Tho.  what was a £16k electric car with just 2.5k miles on it for £3k.  Yes it has a fault, but it sounds like it's a dead accessory battery rather than anything worrying.

Find a Citroen C1 for £500 with a knackered something on it and transplant the running gear.  You'd have to though, wouldn't you?  The "styling" on that is, well, fucking awful.  And you might get your £500 back for selling the Mahindra for spares.  Panels/lamps/glass etc. can't be overly easy to come by for them.

I’ve bought a few ice creams for my kids from that over the years, There were at least 2 Rangies and more lately a Defender , trundling up and down Tenby beach.

I'm old enough to remember the Austin Gypsy based ones that they had.
