I wish you the best of luck. The 2.0 auto IS the best engine/powerhouse combo a guy could want. I’ve seen that listed a few times on evilbay and hummed about it. Ok it wants sills and a new fuse box. And if that’s it, then get it boughted. We can be auto Carlton buddies foreva! If that’s how the saying goes. Maybe. I dunno.

Cringe. Rover V8s might have been the answer 30 years ago but people converting Esprits now use Audi V8s. A small weight penalty but nearly double the horsepower that you'd spend £10k trying to get the Rover V8 to make reliably. It won't even be a decent TVR Power V8 either, it'll be some manky piece of shit (wow, a 'high compression 3.5!!!!!!') ripped out of a P6 3500 or SD1 which had 140bhp back when it wasn't fucked three ways from oblivion.

Yeah, the Greek/Cypriot Esprit had a lot of engine work done, and they didn't start with a 'high compression' scrap 3.5. 

There was also an MG Metro '8R4' built for a customer BITD. 

Please note - I am not ragging on the Rover V8; they can and do make decent power, but 'us true car guys' treating it like a talisman of OMG POWER like it's 1975 really do need to sack it off now.

I believe the car just needs welding service and an MOT the fuse box was fixed in 1997 but the scorch marks still remain. I could do the majority of the work myself a pair of brand new sills are included in the sale so i was gonna ask @Ian_Fearn to do the welding but i believe he has fled the country after a disagreement with a lollipop lady.

I believe the term is bum chums but regardless we will be the coolest bum chums around cruising in our Carltons

Have had a minor hankering for a ovloV barge like one of these, however have always found the headroom to be completely inadequate for me, being in excess of 6'. 

Especially the rear. But you don't tend to buy a car to be a passenger in it! Supremely comfortable seats however that sunroof really does eat into the interior space. 

ABS faults can be a pain on Volvo's from this era though, scanners won't interrogate them

Also the lovely 3 litre 6 Cyl lump for optimal HYDROCARBON smell on cold mornings. A smell which I miss, greatly

Had one, it had an annoying ABS fault which I couldn't fix.

The engine warms up nice and quick in winter because it's so inefficient!

Being 5'7" I didn't notice a lack of space, seemed ok to me.

In 1993, I was on a project with an engineer who had put a Rover V8 in an esprit. He also had a CAT C aldi Quattro he had rebuilt. And a mk3 spitfire that he was trying to flog to me.
