Guest Hooli Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 I wouldn't even think about trying to talk aged parents through draining the tank, the choice is either ignore it or pay somebody to deal with it. I'd be inclined to wing it with the £8 of petrol, even if I was in the same place as the car, that's only about 10% of the tank. TBH if draining it was any more difficult than poke a hose down the filler then I'd be thinking the same. We're not even sure she's done it, but she thinks she might have done & it run better after adding another gallon of diesel.
sierraman Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 Re the CV boot, leave the boot in some boiling water then stick some washing up liquid on the tool. Goes on easier. Still hard work though but simpler than stripping the driveshaft.
wuvvum Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 Is there a RWD box that will fit onto a PSA 2.0HDi?LDV Pilot? warren t claim 1
taxi paul Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 Whilst looking the other day I noticed my celica tyres are all cracked. No advisory on last mot so didn't take much notice when I picked it up. Turns out from the date stamp they are 15 yrs old. So do I buy new ones or risk life and limb.
twosmoke300 Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 LDV Pilot?That's what I came on to post . Lt77 I believe
artdjones Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 Do any mk2 Focuses have climate control?I never see any for sale in Ireland with it, even though more than half of the ones on sale were originally UK registered.Even the Titanium and Ghia models don't seem to be fitted.(I'm looking for a new car for my wife and it's a bit of a deal breaker as she's been used to it for 5 years).

My 09 Titanium had the NAV HIGH option which was a wanky touchscreen satnav (Blaupunkt Travelpilot NX) and the climate controls built in. Could even set temperature by voice, very fancy I guess in 2009. You could get the climate panel separate which has two little temperate displays in, as my temp was displayed on the big touchscreen. I looked for one of those clusters but they're seriously rare, I only saw two on eBay both from STs that were being broken. Edit: here's the one with satnav And the standalone, much rarer one
Snipes Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 So my Bora has been a right bastard in regards to it's wishbones/ball joints. What a saga. Mechanic has had to cut the bolts off, which is fine and all. However, weirdly, when putting in the old bolt for the drop link to connect to the wishbone, it tightened but then didn't tighten fully. It will continue to turn tightly and that's it. He checked for play, there is none, and he even hit it several times to see if it would come out, which it hasn't. It spins tightly with a ratchet but refuses to move by hand or force. He suspects the very end of the bolt has been damaged slightly. Question is, will it be safe? He certainly seems to think so. There was no play whatsoever. Sounds like the threads may have stretched, probably just due to age and rust. I doubt it's dangerous but may clonk about when the weight of the car and some cornering force is applied. I'd be inclined to replace the bolt, but still use the car in the mean time.
Timewaster Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 Ta. Still seriously tempted by this though if it drives alright https://www.gumtree.com/p/vans/2015-renault-trafic-ll29-business-1.6-dci-damaged-repairable-salvage/1264214207The drivers seat would be a serious red flag for me.Worn through in 47000miles? I would suggest multi drop courier use, constant stop starts, in and out of the van (hence the seat wear), up and down kerbs, and ragged everywhere to an impossible schedule.Doesn't look like enough body damage to write off a 2015 van I bet it's as fucked as a thing that's fucked.
artdjones Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 Oh well,if we want a Focus with climate it looks like it will have to be a Volvo S40, thanks for the info.
artdjones Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 Looking at that van,why is it that whenever I look at these damaged repairable a,the price is too high.Usually,by the time they are repaired properly you could buy a vehicle that has never been crashed for not much more, thereby saving yourself a load of hassle. strangeangel 1
artdjones Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 I just looked on UK Auto Trader.Searched for 07-10 Focuses with the added keyword climate.Loads of cars came up with climate in the as title, but a random sample of about 10 shows they all just have plain a/c.Mr Pillock is right, it's definitely rare.
Pillock Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 Oh well,if we want a Focus with climate it looks like it will have to be a Volvo S40, thanks for the info. You can get loads with bog standard air conditioning, they almost always had that. Our fleet special Style models at work, that had wheeltrims and no fancy extras, had Aircon. Tippex on some numbers between 16 and 28 around the temperature dial, sorted. Royale80, The Moog and somewhatfoolish 3
artdjones Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 ^^True, but in Ireland people tend to switch off a/c from October to April and on many seven year old cars that means it doesn't work.Whereas cars with climate are just left on auto and so are switching on the compressor several times a day for demisting, etc and so tend to work. Her old C5 is 12 years old and the c/c works perfectly and has never even been recharged.
DVee8 Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Looking for 2 rail ticket for the inlaws 70th birthday in October, from Durham to Edinburgh return. What sites do you lot use to for tickets?Every site i have looked at is the same price at £123 return. Any help appreciated.
Dave_Q Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Ticketysplit is meant to be good, for extra mingebag points look up the journey on there but book direct with the operators, ticketysplit stick a commission on to make their money. strangeangel 1
primeradoner Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 If they are over 60 get them a senior persons railcard and you will get 30% off ALL prices. I usually book with Virgin Rail direct but try to avoid peak time trains. Also try prices for 1st Class as sometimes they are cheaper than standard. Book in advance. I am travelling from Durham to London on 21/10 and returning on 23/10 and I paid £88.40 return for 1st class but I booked these on 9th august. Early bird and all that. Nicola H 1
Kiltox Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 How long is the journey?NX coach starts at about £23 each way but it's 4h 50 mins which I guess is a fair bit longer! (it's sometimes a no brainer - I travel from Gloucester to London weekly for between £9 and £15 return vs £166 to £208 on the train!)

Guest Hooli Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 What is the difference, I thought it was just marketing speak for the same thing? You set the temp on CC, then it heats or cools to keep that temp. Asimo 1

AMC Rebel Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 Further to my stupid Q about smoke from my two dizzlers - I may have found the source of one - Split intercooler hose apparently very common - Gaffer tape didn't work - it melted and spilt. New hose came today, internet says 30 mins to fit so a day should do it for me. SiC, Royale80, egg and 2 others 5
Kiltox Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 You set the temp on CC, then it heats or cools to keep that temp.Seems Ford used "Climate" as a trim on the mk2 Focus - Bub's is and doesn't actually have climate control by the look of the pics but does have AC
bub2006 Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 Climate on mine added heated mirrors, washer jets and front screen apparently egg and Kiltox 2
3VOM Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 How do you measure and gap multi-earth spark plugs? Checked a couple of mine (twin earth prongs) and the gap looks huge (forgot to actually measure it but certainly wasn't the 30 thou it is supposed to be). Can't adjust them much either. Comments?
Guest Hooli Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 I don't think you do tbh, can't think why I seem to remember that though.
