Why can they never fathom out central locking?

DO NOT PULL THE HANDLE UNTIL I`VE ACTUALLY UNLOCKED IT!

I think that's the Folding Money Acquisition module, all BMWs have one. It's main use is the transfer of funds from owner to dealership.

He's been quoted £600 to replace it. Needless to say he's told them to FRO. What are you looking at pattern parts and is it DIY or a fairly simple garage job (the latter I hope)?

Apparently it requires a phone call to BMW to reset something. I'll say it not that sounds like bull shit.

Does it really invalidate your insurance if you fit tyres with a lower speed rating than your cars top speed? I really do feel disinclined to buy V rated tyres...

Posted

^^^ You will have to read the small print of your insurance contract to know the answer to that.

V rated not a price problem surely? Many sizes are only available at higher speed ratings anyway.

Maybe not invalidate but could cause an issue if anything unfortunate were to happen

Besides,if I viewed a car that had the wrong rated tyres fitted I'd be wondering what else was going on.......

I've found some Sava tyres on Tyreleader which are a good price, V rated and well reviewed which are I suppose the sensible option. I guess if I ever get to go on the Autobahn I'll be good to go...

So to go full retard circle, aside from obvious fuel costs, I don't hear much about these rusting, or having splodey suspension parts, or gearboxes, or anything...

I'm very tempted by a Mason Mk2 with a 5spd box and a torquier V8...

While a mid 2004 model would be preferred, I reckon getting one for under £2k and closer to £1500 is more sensible in case I managed to find the only other Lexus with Goona-Syndrome out there...

I probably wouldn't say no to a pre-tax-rapey 3.3 V6 CDX Sonata if it were the right price.

Or a Superb 2.8 V6. 30v waft.

I have problems.

I have no plans to buy one anytime soon but how scary are Range Rover L322s?

Hyundai Granduer would be the choice of winners.

Straight 6 IS300 are also quite good fun.

Very. They had the 1st of Landrovers "sealed for life" gearboxes, which are now proving to be enough to scrap the car if and when they go.....

I am pretty stupid , but even I bottled out of buying one a couple of years ago.

As seems to be the case with most cars, I think SixCylinder of this parish owns an example, he's the man to ask.

If one were to purchase a car which had been converted to diesel but was still registered as a petrol, would it fail the MOT?  I'm assuming the emissions testing would be all tae feck, quite apart from anything else.

Also, how hard is it nowadays to get a conversion approved so DVLA will change the logbook?

Posted

For MoT, seeing as the tester is supposed to open the bonnet before logging the test in, you can just change the fuel type on the system at the start of the test (noting the warning that it has changed) and then emissions test as presented  - ie as a diesel.

DVLA will change fuel type, engine number and capacity if you send them an inspection letter. This is supposed to be from a garage, but you can easily write one yourself because they don't check.

The hard buggers to convince are insurance companies.

OK, next question: if I manage to convince the DVLA of the change in engine size and fuel type, how will VED be calculated? Obviously the emissions are going to be completely different.

That is a daft idea. Get a low tax cost diesel from early to mid 00 and swap in a petrol engine ftw!

Seems a lot of hassle to save, at most, £250 a year swapping from a dull diesel to a dull petrol. And if you go for a fruitier petrol engine (I'm thinking a 24v Cosworth from a Scorpio into a Fiesta 1.4TDCi) then your insurance would cancel out any VED savings.

It is a daft system, but I guess it saves people faking an engine swap to get cheaper VED. Many manufacturers started bolting on DPFs and other gubbins to make their cars Euro 4 compliant, and drop the VED cost in the process, not sure how the DVLA would police the hundreds of letters from "genuine garages" stating that their 2007 car now has the engine from a 2009 model.

I think it applies to cars old enough to be banded on engine size too. As far as I know a fake RS2000 based on a 1.3L Escort still pays the lower rate.

I was thinking of a 2003 ish starlet on 30quid ved swapping in a 2.0 something stupid. Yes it's all hypothetical and mainly bollocks but that's the whole point

Am I right in thinking if the rev counter needle tics on cranking the car is getting a signal from it ? Rover 220 btw

Only if it still has the 1.3 engine with the 2 litre in it'll go into the higher band

So I changed the shocks on the Volvo 940 last week and today I have a knocking front end again so I checked both sides and on the drivers side (where I think the noise is coming from) I found this:

Other side is bone dry in the same area.

Has the new shock died on me and spewed its guts inside the leg?

If the link works it should be me trying to start a Ford Ka that's had the battery off for ages.

Question is, is the clicking the battery needing more charge or is it the immobiliser not working, I have no idea.
