And they're covered in do not tamper or YOU WILL DIE warnings. You're not supposed to even put them in the bin.

I've come to the conclusion they're knackered so I'm sending them back. I might have to bite the bullet and buy a 50 quid one to match the other good bulb.

That's the ballast. Maybe it/they are fine and the bulbs were/are knackered.

One for the insurance boffins....

As I've shipped out for the long term, once I get my residencey papers here I'll be taking on a local car and all the insurance/mot that goes with it

My UK insurance will be cancelled as it'll be illegal to continue it over 6mths

Now, is there any reason I can't let someone in the Uk to add me onto their policy, and hopefully make things cheaper for them?

Posted

I seem to recall it's difficult to add someone not resident in the UK to a UK policy so they might struggle to add you.

It's a complete ballache to add non residents to UK insurance, in contrast to Ireland where it's a piece is piss.

The space runner is making a groanig sound from the middle of the car. Often when stopped at lights. Not continuous and only happens occasionally

I think this might be the fuel pump. Would that make sense?

Probably bemoaning the absence of lead in the ethanol laced pisswater it has to contend with. I wonder if you could 'Irish up' the fuel with a dash of 2T or ATF would it help, prolly not.

As said tax class willalter to match new engine/emissions.

I can see how that works on the old CC based tax bands, but how do they work out the new emissions based banding? It's not just down to engine size, my Focus was a Titanium and was (I think) 109g/km, but the same engine was in an Econetic model that slipped under 100g/km to get free tax.

Same with my BMW, I've got the ED+ model at 89g/km but you can also get a 116D SE which is quite a lot higher thanks to different wheels, and no fancy pants load reducing stuff. I think mine's got a freewheel on the alternator or something? I dunno.

Basically, if you swap from 15" wheels to 17" wheels, could you argue your emissions drop because of lower RPM at a set speed and get cheaper tax?

Is Landrover's replacement for the 90 / 110 aka Defender going to be worth the wait?

Where's the damn horn on a goona2?

Mines become mute & with the standard of driving around here that's annoying.

Nope unless they rebadge a non euro compliant Landcruiser troop carrier.....whatever they launch will have more electrics to go wrong, more complex emisions control equipment and require more dealer type servicing rather than fix it in the mud with wire and duct tape to get out of the field of fire.

The defenders niche was as a utility vehicle for people who needed a workhorse, I bet the replacement will be a poor mans rangerover.

On motorways (specifically on the M25 and M4) there appears to be chevroned off areas where the hard s holder is to the left of a bridge parapet. Usually there is an articulated lorry parked in them. Why?

Also on the southern part of the M25 there is a long section of fencing that has glass/perspex panels on the top. Any idea why? Note that there are not houses behind this fence - it's mainly farm land.

Under the front bumper on the passenger side, tucked right up below the headlight. It's probably the horn push on the steering wheel that's faulty though.

Non-UK driver of Non-UK truck doesn't know the local rules not to do it. Also finds MSA either stupidly expensive, full or both.

Cheers.

It does work but is dead quiet, hence thinking it's the horn.

First query, yes Johnny Foreigner's overnight parking spot, if a Brit lorry parked there with Brit driver no KY jelly would be used in the pursuit of punishment.

Second query i suspect someone with clout and the right fiends owns half the county within earshot of the motorway, hence extra soundproofing, perspex for weight saving, would the weight 12 or 16 ft fencug mean far heavier posts and deeper footings which would add up to massive extra cost?, i dunno just guessing.

Ural mt9 with sidecar on the right (wrong) side.

It's old enough for the chair to be there, but it has no paperworks at all.

Is this therefore a not worthy of consideration? Want to reg it with date related uk plate, but, again, no paperworks (or accurate idea of year of manufacture).

Of note is it's in the country, but, um, no paperworks.

(Tis cheapish tho...)

Eastern bloc bikes are a bit of a nightmare with no paperwork. I had a Manet Tatran that I needed a dating certificate for. The Jawa club who seem to do most wierd bikes wouldn't even tell me if it was something they could do until I joined the club. Has it got any tags on it as factory records don't really exist on a lot of the Easter bloc stuff.

I noticed this mysterious wee hole in the drivers window of the 406 - Is this some sort of drastic solution to someone locking the keys in the car ?

post-4462-0-61798500-1482585922_thumb.jpg

I've fixed* it with a bit of sellotape for now, if I decide I'm keeping the car I'll get a window from the scrappies.
