Trying to change the track rod ends on the 205. The second one took a bit of heat to get moving but eventually I managed. It was tight even once it was moving. After about half an inch it seized up altogether and nothing would persuade it to go further. I tried to put it back where it started and it won't go that way either now. It turns fairly freely for about half a turn in either direction then it jams. 'Taking a run at it' doesn't help.

I've ordered a new track rod now so the whole thing will be coming off and getting hacksawed to recover the boot but I was just wondering what's gone on with the thread.

Ah bugger. nae idea what could have caused the problem with the thread- I know it wasn't me as closest I got was doing discs and pads.

hope it gets sorted ok.

Thinking of downsizing my van, ex ERDF Kangoos look tempting but is the 1.5dci engine any good ?

Track rod threads quite often get so rusty a piece of the thread picks up inside the nut or tre and won't undo or do up . My van did it last year

Sounds good so far, loads to choose from in my price range. I'd really like to stick with the Chevrons but have been put off with the PSA 1.6 horror stories, so no Berlingo :(

Last Renault I had was an R4F6, that was ace, the Extra that replaced it only bettered it in soundproofing. Dull, dull, dull....

I might stretch to a Kangoo 2, are they just a Kangoo1 in a prettier frock. Kangoo 2 funky handbrake appeals for some reason.....

On the subject of petrol, what about petrol that's been sitting in a car for 2 years? Would that be ok?

/\ Any room to add some fresh to dilute it?

My SQ: Bolts with a square bit of shank under the head designed to fit into a square hole to stop them turning when you can't get to the head, what are they called?

And where can you get them in M5 flavour?

DS Driver - how many do you need? What do you need them for? I have several spares from Mowers I've dismantled and can potentially post a few if required.

I'll know tomorrow. Probably yes though.

Thanks for the offer Stanky but as I had a bugger of a job getting the old mild steel one off I think I will be following Scary's link to stainless ones

One for the resident pro mechanics.

The Octy (1.8t) has developed a sort of stumble between 2-4k rpm on full load. Fine when taking it easy. It sort of kangaroos/ shudders it's way through, but clears further up the rev range.

Idle has also been erratic for a while, partially sorted by cleaning out the throttle body of deposits.

No EML.

Going to throw VAGCOM on it, but I'm wondering if it's a symptom you've come across before. Google offers hundred of similar, but suggest it's a dirty/dodgy injector or a boost leak? Dying MAF/ coil pack also options.

Thoughts welcome before I go tearing it all to bits.

Petrol turbo? Throw a set of plugs in first before you go condemning expensive bits.

I was planning a service with new plugs soon. Will bung some good ones in gapped up. Also may change the recirc/dump valve as it's been making Impreza-esque whoosh noises and they're only £30 odd quid.

Cheers soc

I think they have separate coil packs, I changed one for a mate for a similar issue

Check the hundreds of vac hoses on the twatty things . Also there are two ( at least ) one valves on the manifold / breather system . One is under the inlet manifold iirc

Any recommendations for online spanner suppliers?  EBay was looking pretty manky.  I need some open ender 20, 21 (does anyone do 21), 23, 23.  Don't have to be snap on, Facom etc but prefer ones that are actually the marked size and don't snap upon first use.

23mm is a random size ! Only thing I can think of that was 23mm was the front axle bolt on my wife's Aprillia pegaso 660

the 2.0Hdi is brilliant in 110bhp form

Okay, something new to worry about. Why does my car (Bentley) lose water? It goes from the 'high' mark on the expansion tank to about an inch above the 'low' mark and stays there every time I top it up? It annoys me as I like things on the mark as it were. It has a new cap but it doesn't feel tight to be honest.

Absolutely useless at maths and have made an attempt to work this out, but it's stumped me:

If I did one kilometre in 54 seconds, how many MPH was I doing? I tried .54 X 1.609 then timesed it by 60 (for minutes) but clearly I wasn't doing 52.1mph

How fast was I going, please? (Sorry for dimness)

I'd suspect the cap just like you. If it's not holding quite enough pressure then the system will vent a bit of water out when hot.
