That was my thought too - though it's starting fine again this evening after not bothering when I needed to get to work this morning.

My JDM Mazda has shite radio reception. Not the Japanese stereo, but with UK radio.

Is the aerial too JDM yo, or should this not matter, or should I get some kind of band expander for the aerial ASAP?!

Has the carpet got a spongy underlay? Might still be water held in there, but it will always absorb atmospheric moisture too.

I'm pretty sure an aerial is just a big metal stick wherever its from, the band expanders are for the head unit as Japan use something like 80-90MHz meaning you can only get Radio 2.

I'd check the wiring first.

on AM or FM?

Wire aerial or a stubby or built into the window?

Japanese FM band is not quite the same as European :   Japan 76 to 95 MHz   European 88 to 108 Mhz

So it is possible that if the aerial in your car has a booster amplifier for FM then it won't work well at the higher frequencies furthest away from the Japanese band.

If you get Radio 2 ok (within the overlap between the Japanese and European bands)  but Classic FM is poor (outside the overlap) that is the problem.

If everything on FM is poor and if AM doesn't work well then it is just generic aerial / radio problems.

I need to fit a different exhaust to the bug but need to fit a lambda sensor into it somewhere... is it ok to fit to just one header pipe or does it need to see the gas from all 4?

It doesn't need to see the gas from all four but if you put it on one header the others could end up massively over/under-fuelling. Is it an aftermarket ECU? You'll probably be fine if it's set up with a wideband and CO analyser initially.

Is there anywhere online where I can see a list of all the makes and models of new cars on sale in the UK today (preferably arranged by class)?

I appreciate this request has nothing to do with the Autoshite ethos, but I thought some helpful person here might know...

Would the fuse for the diagnostic socket blowing have any effect on the running of the car? HBOL says the fuse isn't connected to anything else engine-related.

In the back of Autocar/Car Magazine has a full list, might be repeated online as well.

Usually the comments say something like 'This isn't as good as a Golf but ...'

On my Toyota import i got recently. The reception on the radio was awful , on fm and am. The Arial is built into the sunroof. I wondered about taking I ti get a better Ariel fitted and decent radio / cd. I then chose the sensible approach and got a kwality £10.00 scrapyard JVC jobbie. Fitted it and et voilà super duper reception and sound. The one the garage fitted when I bought it was second hand and had wrote on it "radio ok cd broke" . So di you have a spare one that you could try ?

It may be the radio, I have a shonky Sony I bought in 2007.

Are mk1 Tigras anything like Corsa B's to drive?

Can anyone tell me why the stereo buttons in the xantia don't work? Thanks

I quite fancy a Tigra.

Apparently the first thing a new owner always does is twat their head really hard on the A-pillar getting into one. Seemingly the roofline is a lot lower than expected.

The steering wheel ones?

Is it the factory stereo? If not you'll need an adapter if the head unit supports it.

The buttons are connected to a coiled ribbon cable that can only turn so many times before it gives up. IIRC the airbag is connected to another one.

The Japanese imports usually need adjustments (if that's even possible) to pick up most stations in the UK, something to do with the bands. I'd adjust its position into the bin and get down to Halfords to obtain a £40 Goodmans, Alba or Aiwa for a truly embarrassing demonstration of your knowledge of sound systems. Apro po 40w should do. For added effect, don't bother with the cradle, just hammer it into the dash. Preferably on the piss.

I want get a standard double DIN Mazda stereo but unfortunately a) they're expensive B) they're JDM

I'd be happy with an Alpine or Pioneer from 1997 era with the oil' aux in.

I've wanted a Tigra for years ever since I saw one on Blue Peter, which was demonstrating stop start technology. It was that nice burnt metallic Revels packet orange. I've not seen one in that colour for ages, but black or white is nice.

I was worried they would drive exactly like that Corsa Merit I had (awful).

They aren't attached and don't work. Never have. I plugged them back in and they didn't work so unplugged them again.

My sister had a Tigra-A for seven years. It never went wrong but did always leak water in through to the back. By the time we got rid, it was getting a bit scabby. I didn't really like driving it as it felt cramped to me, but it was fun to chuck about.

All it ever needed was tyres and servicing though..

Mrs Pirate's Saab (2001 9-3 petrol) is leaking oil where the drain from the turbo goes into the engine (just above the oil filter).  It's a banjo type connection and I've replaced the copper washers, but it's even worse now and absolutely pissing out.  Anyone got any ideas what's going wrong here?

A puma is a much better drive than a tigra IMO .

They both have a head smashing pillar tho
