TimothyClaypole Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 What's the best thing to clean "cockpit spray" off? I've had enough of slipping of everything in the car for now. I think they put it on with a garden sprayer or something.

red5 Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Got a Concentric Slave Cylinder and Clutch to fit on a 1.0litre Corsa C.Just wondering, is it easier to pull out the box and drive shafts, or pull the engine out ? Thanks ! I've always done it by box. For what that's worth.
cort16 Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 My mate's wanting to buy a 4 year old Skoda Yeti. He asked me what's the best one to go for.All the diesels are 2.0 VAG shite, does anyone know if they various power ratings have the usual DMF of doom associated to these engines? He does town driving so I was saying he should get a petrol but the motors are either 1.2 tsi, 1.4 tfsi (which I hear are problematic) or a 1.8t, which I guess is the old engine from the TT? Not exactly a choice engine selection. Anyone no what's what with these? D I recon he should get a Dacia Sandero but he seems to like them.
cort16 Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Cheers, I knew someone had one on here buy couldn't remember who it was.
twosmoke300 Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 I've always done it by box. For what that's worth.Did a meriva clutch today ( a blown up corsa c) and I reckon that on a corsa 1.0 I'd pull the engine . You need to drop at least one side of the subframe , suspension links , driveshafts , gear linkage etc . On the 1.0 there is acres of room on the os to pull the engine if you have a crane
red5 Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Usually do 1.7's so drop one side of frame. Depends on inclination I'd say. ... Only pulled and engine for an engine change, then drop the frame on floor. With a 2 poster obv.
barefoot Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Why are FWD cars better in motorway crosswinds than RWD? even the 944 is comparatively shit.
Asimo Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Why are FWD cars better in motorway crosswinds than RWD? even the 944 is comparatively shit.Front drivers are relatively nose-heavy so the centre of gravity is relatively far forward. For best stability that centre of gravity is in front of the centre of aerodynamic drag (like an arrow). robinmasters, barefoot, scdan4 and 1 other 4

willswitchengage Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 cockpit spray Isn't that what women do in 'heat'?

Matt Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Why do some cars have five digit odometers and some six?
Matt Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Because digits cost money. There must be more to it than that otherwise why would any manufacturer bother with six.
Pillock Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Because their cars last longer than 1990s Fords KruJoe and Nicola H 2
Richard Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Manufacturers assumed, mostly correctly, that their cars wouldn't make 100k- and if they did it would be easy to tell the difference between a 20k car and a 120k car. As cars started to last a bit longer more and more manufacturers added a sixth digit.
scaryoldcortina Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 I think volvo actually used the 6 digit odo as a sales pitch during the early 80s.
HH-R Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Did anyone else but Ford have such penny pinching into the 90s?
mat_the_cat Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 As cars started to last a bit longer more and more manufacturers added a sixth digit. Do any vehicles (I'm thinking trucks or buses) have 7 digits?
D Spares & Tyres Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 i think there`s a chap on clee hill that has 7 digits mat_the_cat, red5, Asimo and 1 other 4
D Spares & Tyres Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 So.... who started / runs autoshite and why? Is it profit making? I don`t care if it is, I`m just interested
willswitchengage Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Wot would cause premature coil failure? (about 100 miles driving) Got infinite resistance across the low voltage terminals, and it obviously doesn't work.

I don`t care if it is, I`m just interestedMr H SceptreElectric Leyland&SiestaboyStarted Autoshite. I run it now by myself & own the servers & software that it is on.Cavcraft & Trigger are moderators. It is totally none profit making although there is a Donate button at bottom of board for members to help with running costs etc. D Spares & Tyres, Asimo, Tam and 1 other 4
Lacquer Peel Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Do any vehicles (I'm thinking trucks or buses) have 7 digits? I think the digital odometers on modern lorries might go up to 7 figures (1m km might come up relatively quickly), but I've not seen any. willswitchengage and mat_the_cat 2
willswitchengage Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 I run it now by myself & own the servers & software that it is on.Cavcraft & Trigger are moderators. The latter is the very sensible and mature looking chap on the left in this month's calendar image. At shitefest he's always really quiet, boring, and sober.
MrBiscuits Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Wot would cause premature coil failure? (about 100 miles driving) Got infinite resistance across the low voltage terminals, and it obviously doesn't work. The one time I had this it was a ballasted coil that I had mistakenly connected up to the non ballasted feed (Austin Rover helpfully included both in the loom!). It ran really well for about 100miles (probably with a mega fat spark) then started to miss and cut out. Coil was getting really hot. If there's a separate ballast resistor and it fails short circuit you could get the same.
alf892 Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Wot would cause premature coil failure? (about 100 miles driving) Got infinite resistance across the low voltage terminals, and it obviously doesn't work.Depends what vehicle.... Most more modern vehicles run at 9v for ignition and just get an extra shot of full 12v (usually from starter solenoid) for starting. The 9v is usually achieved by having a ballast resistor near the coil.......easy to find........or a resistive wire in in the circuit from ign switch to coil. Just noticed Mr Biscuits reply! Btw A lot of fords use a resistive wire......easy to spot if you're looking as it is the last bit to the coil.....just work back from coil and there will be a join Before doing anything else check how many volts you have at switch side if coil.
