HH-R Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 I think he did. What about Eccentric Richard and the PU51 DRY fella?
Richard Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 A few people have been banned. Norm/ Team Blitz, Eccentric Richard, Austin Towers and the PU51DRY person are the ones I remember.
cort16 Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 I can't remember exactly what norm was banned for but I do remember he talked some amount of shite. It's weird though as I believe he was really knowledgeable and and raced capris in the us in the old days he just never imparted any if that to us.
willswitchengage Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 Exhaust leaking, lol, gonna get a new clamp. Is there anything else I should do to treat the connectors before clamping or do I just do it dry? I will also be using a proper cast clamp not a shitty pressed one which it is replacing.

HH-R Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 EccentricRichard was hilarious, Google his username (without the space) and there's a comedy gold thread on here at the 3or or 4th link. I read it earlier and had a right good laugh (again). Think he was too young to drive but had an opinion on EVERYTHING, including deriding the handling of cars he had never driven from decades ago. He was a huge fan of new BMWs though, well from what he had read about them, anyway. I hilarious (I might have just been a lurker back then) but he got tiresome quite quickly. The PU51DRY one was something like a bloke coming on and asking if he should get that as a private plate, think his wife joined up too and they said they were porn stars IIRC. Again was quite amusing but quickly got boring, they had nowt to do with shite cars.
Richard Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 I think in most cases it's because the forum was getting flooded with their posts, people moaning about their posts, people moaning about people moaning about their posts etc. I don't think the current moderating team have ever banned anybody other than spammers.
Noel Tidybeard Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 Question for any engineer. I can't find a decent cheap auto and begrudge getting rid of the xsara anyway. The issue is my bad left side is getting worse. Is there any way of modifying the clutch operation to either vacuum controlled clutch or hand operation relatively easily?fuzz on car sos put a servo on the clutch of something so the owner could drive it as his condition got worse
LC Torana Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 HOW ON EARTH DO DYNAMOS WORK, new car has oneHave you bought yourself a 1950's car? If so, I should be able to point you to some excellent Lucas explanations in plain language.
Alan_Green Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 Is this generation Nissan QX Maxima RWD or FWD? I've deep googled/wikipedia'd but it's ambiguous.

cort16 Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 You know all the talk of veg only being compatible with Bosch fuel pumps? Can you run it through different pumps if you put a fuel pre heater in? Is it the viscosity if the fuel that causes issues or is it because veg eats/doesn't lubricate the seals properly?
LC Torana Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Nobody can explain how Generators work better than Joseph Lucas himself: http://www.justbrits.com/Articles/Lucas04.pdf

Yes it's the lubricity that's the issue not the viscosity. Hence why it works best on pumps that are lubricated by the engine oil (very rare, W123 era engines iirc) as opposed to the fuel itself (majority of pumps) cort16 1
cort16 Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Is there additives for veg that can increase it's lubricity (great word)?

NorfolkNWeigh Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 What was the last car you could buy new with a vinyl roof ?They just seemed to fade away in about 82/83. Mk2 Granny's all seemed to have a vanilla roof until the facelift then it was much rarer, by the time the mk3 came along definitely no factory fitted ones and I can't remember seeing an aftermarket on either. Same with Carltons,Cortinas,SD1s gradually became less common and by the next generation they'd completely gone. This question is prompted by seeing a few late 90's Cadillacs with hideous padded and ridged vinyl tops. The yanks probably still have them.
Lacquer Peel Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Is there additives for veg that can increase it's lubricity (great word)? You can convert it to biodiesel. Lubrication isn't an issue, it's viscosity when veg oil is cold. I think Merc used in line pumps in most of their diesels til they adopted common rail injection.
anonymous user Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Nobody can explain how Generators work better than Joseph Lucas himself: http://www.justbrits.com/Articles/Lucas04.pdfThat can't be right, there is no mention of the special Lucas smoke that you have to fill the loom with, unless I missed it.
chaseracer Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Fear not - you can get a kit... http://www3.telus.net/bc_triumph_registry/smoke.htm

I will also be using a proper cast clamp not a shitty pressed one which it is replacing. I tend to use copper grease, mainly to help everything slide together but wonder if the copper particles help fill any small gaps? With the Lucas pumps, my understanding is there are finer passageways internally which cold (thick) veg oil cannot pass through for lubrication so in some cases the pump will seize and the shaft snap. Seals are another issue and I *think* the Bosch ones tend to be more veg resistant although not perfect. Someone I know dunked a scrap Bosch pump into veg oil for a year or so as an experiment, and upon removal found the seals had hardened significantly.

Conrad D. Conelrad Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 No question, just a bit of info. If you use the Ghostery tracker blocker browser extension and can't get the photos to enlarge on Autotrader's website, you need to allow the "telium" tracker.
phil_lihp Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 You don't need an MOT, just either the number of the V5 or the one on the tax reminder letter. You can do it here: https://www.gov.uk/make-a-sorn Thanks, it turns out that the web address on the renewal letter only allows you to tax it despite it suggesting you can make a SORN as well. As you found, there is indeed a seperate link for that which is not mentioned on the letter at all. Well done, DVLA. Clear as mud as usual!

TimothyClaypole Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Pressing a steel insert into aluminium tubing. How much force can you apply in a large vice by hand? - how I currently make them. I want to make a bottle jack type press but only as big as I need etc.
catsinthewelder Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 I may have made a sizable cock up. Last weekend I changed the clutch on the Cherry. To do this I removed the driveshafts then the box. Being as I don't know everything I was following the instructions in the (proper Nissan) workshop manual. Regarding driveshafts these went 1-4 get wheel and hub out of way 5 drain gearbox oil 6 remove driveshaft. Underneath was a warning not to pull the driveshaft to remove it as it might damage the oil seals. Obviously I didn't spot this until it was too late so when I filled up the box it all pissed out on the street. My questions are; Where should I get some new seals and how hard are they to fit? How do I get the driveshafts out without knackering them next time? Ta lots
mat_the_cat Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 You may be able to get a part number from them, but nowadays I tend to measure up the dimensions and match up a standard seal, if not easily available. I'll give you a link if you want when I can get to a computer. catsinthewelder 1
