Of course you do. If it's not registered as being insured, you won't get the tax for it.

The cynic in me says I bet you still would get a disc without insurance,

why else did they introduce that continuous insurance rule last year, if its taxed it has to be insured if not fine in post,

Still as clear as mud, as it is info elsewhere on the interweb. I'll let you know how I get on.

Oh, there are ways round it alright. I've discovered at least one, possibly two, loopholes in the 'it must be registered to you' bit. How long that will last I don't know, but it's there alright.

*Edit: Marty, can't you just go to PO with new keeper's bit?

I bought the Xsara in December and taxed it on the same day. Walked into PO with green slip and MOT. Gave them cash and got disc. Green slip was in my missus name.

Has anyone else seen a bit of an advert on the telly for a Ford Mustang?

It's 'Ford Motor Co'

& then there's the Mustang and it says Mustang under it.

Will they be flogging them over here?

Or was I asleep?

How do I tell what sort of coolant I need for my cars? Was there more than one type when my cars were made?

I have only become aware of this 'don't put the wrong type in' in recent years. I always used whatever I could get my hands on in the past with no ill effects. Is there any 'safe for all cars' coolant I should be using?

Haven't seen the ad.,but seem to remember reading that the new Mustang will be sold here in RHD form. Worryingly there's talk of a 4 cylinder 2.3 version, possibly not the Pinto lump from the Mustang ll .

Isn't the 'wrong type of coolant' thing more just a case of not mixing the two different types because they react with each other and cause the whole lot to form a gloop that blocks the waterways.

I always thought that if you were replacing the whole lot and flushed the system out you could use either.

^ That's what I thought too. I've flushed systems out before and changed from one to the other with no ill effects.

For the right type of coolant for a particular car then surprisingly Halfords is useful. They have little flip books by the coolant shelves that tell you what type your car had initaly, though not if anybody else has changed it to a different form.

I flushed all the cooling system the other day, when I changed the bottom hose, just to be sure. Because it was getting Halford's cheapest in it, regardless. No ill effects so far.

No ill effects from it getting about 3p worth of diesel in last week either (just what was in the nozzle). Is that fine, or is it waiting to catch me out?

I saw the Mustang add the other day, you weren't dreaming.

Mustangs for Brits, about damn time!

The 2.3,mustang is going to have a 300bhp turbo eco boost motor.

Apparently this depends on  the GPO. As I dscovered today.

Doncaster GPO run by nice asian woman told me I was a wicked man and it wasnt insured because their computermabob says no...

Drove it home past several VOSA cars and shit loads of gantry speed / yellow ASC cameras. Buggered if I know if any of them pinged up a non taxed Maverick, but no one pulled me...

Got home, had a huge wee and walked to the local GPO where they were only too willing to relieve me of my cash and told me about a GPO in Leyland who also are shirty gets when it comes to issuing tax discs.

Not entirely car related, but certainly Autoshite relevant.

Have a static caravan, the site owners have at last, begrudgingly installed wifi on the site. Two or three little masts with aerials have been installed. However, reception is 100% in some areas but bugger all in our bit. Stupid question. Is it possible to buy some sort of aerial or booster thingy that I could install in a nearby tree/on the caravan roof or somewhere to enable reception? Miss Autoshite terribly whilst away. Plus Mrs Beard is self employed and internet based thus restricting our stays. No 3G, so broadband the only option.

I'm no expert on aerials, but I know camp/caravan site wifi is mostly hopelessly slow, and brutally expensive.

Suspected as much, but live in hope!

You could try making a Cantenna if you can get line of sight with one of the aerials..?

Line of sight just possible, but a Cantenna? Is it made from a can?

Not for my cars (except maybe the Audi) as they are too old. I will just flush it. I was worried about certain types causing other damage.

Ta for the help chaps and chapettes.

It cranks the available signal up to 11. I used one not entirely unlike this one at our last caravan site to boost the wifi. The new site charges a bomb so I told them to FRO and now use a data package on my phone and tether to that. It just so happens that this very one is new, unused and sat in its box needing love. It just so happens Im not that far from you - pick it up, try it and if you like it buy me a Hollands butter pie and pint.

I think I have, now you mention it! Surely the bumper surface has that sort of pebble dash finish, and they've just run it opposite ways on each side. Would make sense, because in certain lighting conditions it wouldn't show up, and so it would maybe look uniform. As you noticed. Certainly, the crease in the middle looks dangerously sharp, which I'd imagine it isn't really. Maybe the visual effect is meant to make it look sharper? Or draw the eye in a certain way to make it look wider/narrower? (Clutching at straws now, is it obvious?)

I'm certain Honda didn't intend the back of the recent CR-V to look like PedoBear: but I was staring at the back of one recently, in traffic. You know that thing where if you stare at something for ages, you see it differently? Well, I saw PedoBear. Cheers Honda.

Ooooh thanks! Very generous offer...

Will PM you for details of when/where etc.

Ta. :-)

If I buy something from the US that's 115V what hoops would I need to jump through to get it to work?

The same thing is sold in the UK but a ridiculous £1030.00, there's one being sold as spares or repair in the US for £44.71 plus postage

I have got the logbook back for the 405 but they have got my surname wrong. Is it worth sending it back to change it?

Posted

Yes. They did this on the logbook for my old Renner 5 and when I went to cash the tax in on it, they cancelled the disc and informed me I couldn't have a refund as I was not the registered keeper. Cunts.

Depends what it is. A lot of stuff can run fine as-is but some (mainly older stuff) needs a step down transformer to work. They aren't that expensive, unless you need MEGA power to run a welder or somert.
