Where are the sidelights on a Dolomite? Above or below the bumper?

Almost certain they're below.

Motorway speed limits reduced to 60mph to completely eliminate pollution - Shock, Horror!

Won't the lorries (who presumably emit quite a bit from their big engines),

still be emitting exactly the same amount as they drive through flat out at 56mph on the governor?

Posted

More muddled thinking from those we put in charge.....Apart from that minor rant, most lorries today are extremely emission controlled I believe.   There is very tough standard EU legislation which is why you never see old lorries any more.

How the hell to I get my tunes off an ipod without itunes? I have now downloaded 6 stupid twatting programmes which only download the first 10/100 tunes or 10 seconds of each tune unless I pay. Do they think I am stupid or something? :-D

GRRRRRRRRRR

I had to do this and used 'sharepod' - but that was a couple of years ago. The free version (then) was fully-functional for 7 days, or something.

http://appandora.com/ipod-music-transfer.html looks worth a try too.

They have combined sidelight/indicator lights below the bumber:

Note that most of them work on this example.

Something like "if the two wheels on one axle are less than 300mm apart they are considered as one wheel"  then an Aerial BSA will be a two wheeled Trike so needing a skid lid.

If one were to so desire, could one legally ride a Honda Stream / BSA Ariel 3 style trike with no crash helmet?

True obviously it doesn't affect the big emitters (lorries) but it'll cut congestion which will help

I still don't understand how one cuts congestion and/or emissions by making vehicles staying on the roads for longer periods of time.

The best and most effective way to cut congestion would be to tell people to drive the fuck on.

Why do big trucks have a metric fuckload of lights on them? Do they ever use them?

Posted

The lights are for spotting prostitutes on unlit roads.

Most of the marker lights and stuff are mandatory fitment to make them more visible to other road users because an articulated wagon 15 feet high and 60 feet long is practically* invisible...

It is more the row of lights on the front. it is like a vespa has mated with a rally mini.

Posted

What about the truckers who then add an imperial fuckload of extra lights, all over the cab, often green, usually accompanied by dream catchers, confederate flags and a wall hanging depicting Big Chief prostitute loyalty card holder, would they be owner drivers?

Nothing to do with the above, just a genuine stupid question: how do you post a link (to ebay, car and classic, etc) on this forum? Everyone seems to do it, but no "copy and paste" method seems to work? The message dialogue box just won't accept it? Even typing out the URL address in a message doesn't produce a link. Help, and sorry for the stupidity!!

the extra lights (spots) are usually for use in poorly lit yards/depots/alley ways etc

Use the more reply options instead of just reply. Up the top is loads of icons many of which I refuse to understand but one of them looks a bit like a chain link with a + sign next to it, hit that then copy/paste your link in there.

my mate who used to run his own wagon reckons that all the customising bits and pieces, (exminox stacks, spotlights, alcoa wheels, airbrushed pictures of various prostitutes they've murdered over the years) are all tax deductible as business expenses so for an owner driver it makes sense. cut your tax bill by spending some money on customising, basically. apart from that I could never see the point..unless its an old classic truck it's just a tool to do a job. (IMO obviously)

Shouldn't we alert the cabbies to that tax break? World would be a better place with customised minicabs, and their airbrushing requirements would pesent the artists with more of a rapey theme than hooker offing.

Am breaking the (rusty) 944 and have some interest in the wheels. Cookie cutters with almost new tyres. Thing is, I will need the car to be moveable if I sell the wheels and need to break the rest. Only need to push it in and out of the garage and onto the road and back so I can move my other cars around. What wheels could I fit? Anything would do, even if only held on by one wheel nut or something. Tricky.

Have we got any fluent french speakers that could do a favor for me. I am trying to buy a clock for my Hotchkiss in france and the seller won't answer my emails. I did have someone who said they were really good at french turns out she was even worse than I am. I have got a phone number for the seller if any one can help me thanks

If I have two 80 watt lights is this the same as having 4 x 40 watt lights? In other words are lights cumulative or does the light level stay the same but the coverage is increased.

Posted

The power rating of the lightbulb is the power into it so doubling the electrical power into it should double the amount of light out of it.

But things aren't that simple, bulbs are really, really inefficient and nearly all of the electricity ends up as heat not the light you want so how much useful light you actually get depends on lots of variables, ie all bulbs vary (and all bulbs age).

Also, the way we see brightness etc is complicated, doublimg the power of your lights (all else being equal) will make the lights seem brighter, but you won.t be able to see twice as far or twice as clearly.

Has anyone ever used the breaker bar to chassis/ground and then crank the starter motor technique to loosen a crankshaft pulley bolt?

I hate lorry drivers with blue lights up front. I just hate seeing blue lights on the road as it makes me think I have to get out of the way, and last time I checked cars weren't allowed to use them so how come the murderers are allowed blue/green and whatever?

2x40W lights will use as much electricity as 1x80W light, but since it's not being emitted from the same point (it's now coming out of two different filaments) it won't look quite as bright all things being equal.
