Where is the thread with the pallet ramp, (I always think of it as "touching cloth").

Can't remember the car or the person who posted it but it made me laugh.

Can I put motorbiking boots through the washing machine?

They're these, Sidi Vertebra, but second hand ebay ones:

Where should I be looking first if I want to remedy the fact that water pisses through the dashboard and all over my feet whenever I drive my C15 in the rain?

Top and bottom corners of the windscreen seal, inside and outside. Then under the scuttle panel as Moggybymig suggests.

are HGVs allowed to use the third lane of a four lane motorway?

If the truck park that was three-quarters of the M6 from gates 11 to 8 yesterday morning is anything to go by, the answer is yes...

Just got this email through from Paypal...

We’re always looking for ways to give you extra peace of mind and make you feel more secure when you shop online. That’s why you can now choose Pay After Delivery at checkout.

With Pay After Delivery purchases, we’ll pay the seller straightaway but will only take the money out of your bank account 14 days later. This gives you the time to receive the item before you pay. If the item doesn’t arrive or isn’t what you expected, you’re covered by PayPal Buyer Protection.

It’s easy to set up – just follow these simple steps:

1.    Click ‘Agree and Sign Up Now’.
2.    Sign in to your PayPal account.
3.    You’ll receive a confirmation message to say you’ve activated Pay After Delivery.

Once you’ve signed up, you can then select Pay After Delivery next time you check out with PayPal*.

Has anyone else? It seems to me that this great* idea is going to just make things a little more complicated and risky for anyone trying to sell stuff out there.

Yeah, I got that too. Seems to be a fairly major change in the way paypal works, yet again siding even more with the buyer and putting me off selling the piles of shit I have in the garage EVEN MORE.

I got that email from paypal earlier as well.

They were doing this last month with me on purchases through paypal. it got damn confusing as to when the money for the purchase was leaving my account. They were sending me 2-3 additional emails about each purchase I found it irritating and confusing.

Tis deffo paypal. Ah right Skattrd, this just sounds complicated and shit. I bet it'll be a pain in the arse for the seller somehow and that they're trying to lure us into debt when spending. GR0.00000

I've a coffin ready for Ebay, they keep banging more nails in the lid...

Much as I detest Facebook, I've actually made more money selling through local groups on there in the past 2 weeks than I have in 2 months or more on eBay. I think that while 'normal' sellers are tiring of the fees etc, a lot of buyers are also fed up with the fact that it's becoming more like just another online shop. Problem is, there just isn't anything else quite like it to move over to, yet.

I've had that pay after delivery for a while now, it's a right pain in the arse as you think you've paid then 2 weeks later once you've forgot about it and spent your money for that week the payment then comes out leaving you overdrawn.

I agree other mediums are better than ebay now, Gumtree and Preloved specifically, but Facebook seems to be pretty hopeless for trying to sell anything more than about £35, and even then everyone wants something for nothing.

I've had my Astra on eBay and Gumtree for a week for 550, not a sniff of any interest from either apart from one 'whats the least u'd take' text which I deleted. So I have tipped a further tenner into putting it on Autotrader (for 495) ,which in fact turned out to have cost £15 when i got the confirmation through, the sly twats. Also had it on Facebook for a while with predictable results.

I've had my 5 series on autotrader and not even the scammers have bothered to try contacting me, which is a bit depressing.

I'll give you an idea of what FaceAche is like from last night and today:

Someone of the usual FB mentality advertises that he wants a 306. I mention I have one, he sends me a message asking for details. Details sent. 'Can I have a picture?' I mention there is a picture with the details I sent. 'I want a diesel turbo'. This is a turbo diesel. 'Look M8 I dont want your car ok.'

OK, here's a random and quite possibly incredibly stupid question, but one that's been bugging me recently.

Why are old cars so much slower than an equivalent car from the '80s onwards?  Take a late Morris Minor - 1098cc, 48bhp and around 800kg.  It takes around 22 seconds to hit 60, and runs out of puff at 77mph.  An 1100cc Fiesta, with very similar power output and kerb weight, would leave it for dead.  I can understand the Fester having a higher top speed due to better aerodynamics and taller gearing, but why is the acceleration so much quicker too?  Moving up the BMC range a bit, the Riley 1.5 has more power and torque and slightly less weight than a Mk3 Escort 1300, but again would be left choking in the Ford's knackered-valve-stem-seal-induced exhaust smoke.

What gives?

RWD transmission losses are greater, I'd imagine.

Re: the FaceAche thing. We had a C4 VTR disease on Wife Trader and eGay. Not a sniff. Likewise UTV Drive (at least it's free, though) I lobbed it on my mate's FacAche and the first person who enquired turned up today with chequebook and driving licence. Cheque is in hand, and he's coming back for the car when it clears. Made 560 bills on it for the sake of a vacuum out and a wash n polish.
