What would cause my heater to occasionally blow cold? It's a '99 1.3 Fiesta.

So the recent -1 temperatures meant this became a little more pressing! I ran it for a while- I would say up to temperature but as it doesn't have a gauge I had to vaguely guess based on holding the upper rad hose. Anyway one of the hoses going into the cabin was warm and the other stayed cold, despite my changing the cabin temperature controls from max cold to max hot and back again. I guess the solenoid motor is kippered and has stuck closed. I'll check them again tomorrow after work when I Know for sure the engine has some proper heat in it.

As the heater controls, save the direction/vent selector, are all electrical I assume the valve controls temperature entering the cabin?

-this isn't the exact same arrangement but is more or less the same.

Going to be a bag of wank or worth it for similar pricing to shagged out used ones?

In 2011, I dropped £792 on a new Duuo Plus. It would have been £800, but asked if I could get money off instead of a number plate. No point for less than a day (because export & rereg) and so I'll just use the one on the back of the car...

I think the base price was £675, but the package included a cover (c. £70), spare wheel+tyre (£30), jockey wheel (???). It was pricey then, but then I had specific storage issue at the time and whilst I have more space now, I was grateful I could get it past all the chod in the drive. Although it's down as a Franc/Trigano, it's manufactured in Poland by Trigano's subsiduary Sorelpol.

Trailer shit(e) - few sellers like this around with what look like some good value brand new trailers http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-trailer-caged-cage-mesh-6-69ft-x-3-61ft-750kg-BORO-/262448135607?hash=item3d1b20bdb7%3Ag%3AKLAAAOSwxj5XQJ8q&_trkparms=pageci%253Ae10631d5-dcf0-11e6-9285-005056aa615e%257Cparentrq%253Aae0ca2451590a6065944fe3fffbb84fb%257Ciid%253A10

This is the model we got,and couldn't be more pleased with it

We went down with a pocket of cash and got a few extras thrown in for less than 800

Excellent - they do a small trailer for £500 and aren't that far away!

Rocking up with cash in hand the best option then I assume

I'm assuming this is a good pictorial demonstration of a fucked rear beam?

Hi The valve controls the amount of hot water getting to the heater, I bought a MkV Fiesta cheap last Feb and it was the same, cold all the time, replacement valves can be picked up for very little on e-bay but I am a bit dubious about their quality.

What I did was to remove my valve (5 min job) and have a look. Inside there is a plunger with a rubber seal on the end, I pushed the plunger to the open position (confirmed by blowing through the water pipes) and refitted to the car but did not reconnect the power cables, it is now on permanent hot and I ran it like that all last summer regulating the temperature by opening the windows.

Yup.

I put a witter tow bar on the Santa Fe for about £100. Had to get a wee relay box to deal with the canbus wiring loom for the lights. It's a bit of a pain as you have to run a live feed to the relay box. I took it from a spare fuse slot and popped an inline fuse in.

Somebody might be about to tell me I've created a fire bomb.

What runs of the auxiliary belt on an xud? Alternator,  steering pump,  anything else?

Opps, it's the stupid question thread, not the stupid answer thread. sorry.

Cherish: to love, protect and care for.

Has anyone ever, in the history of number plates, cherished theirs?

Stereo wiring. Use a meter to check the lives and earth, then use an AA battery to check the speakers. Touch a pair of wires to plus and minus on the battery should give a click/thump from the speaker.

I always use a 9V battery. If you can see the speaker cone it will punch forward if the polarity is correct and pull back if wrong.

Speaker wires are usually pairs of a colour with a stripe on one.

Also beware of guessing.

80s Vauxhalls had a black live wire. My 80s CD player died in a cloud of smoke.

Coincidence?

Anyone got real life experience of an Insignia CDTi? I know all Vauxhalls are shit

I had an SRi hire car for a few days.

This is not an anti new car rant. I like new cars.

It was slow. And I drive an Eco diesel Focus.

The seats were German. The tyres had sidewalls the width of my finger. The ride was by Max Power and it crashed and bounced and jiggled over every bump.

I was glad to give it back.

I seem to remember the radio was good. *faint praise *

I've always thought facelift Elite-spec Insignias looked alright. Never actually tried one.

Has anyone got an ignition switch wiring diagram for the c15? Mine has 4 wires, 2 beige 2 green. 1 beige and both green put all ignition on and fuel solenoid and the other beige one touched to the others and released starts it. Looking on ebay and they all have different coloured wires with a different multi plug. Thanks

Air conditioning if fitted.

We negotiated a free spare wheel and carrier by waving pound notes under their noses..

It's all Polish made, then shipped over and assembled in their yard

Help, on the Triumph Toledo I have a two pin flasher relay and it is too fast so I want to change it to an electronic relay.

When it comes to car electrics I can do simple stuff but the understanding is not there!

Could some one point me in the direction of the correct new relay which will have three pins as an earth will be added.

The only ones I can find are either for a motorbike or LEDs which I don't have and am not fitting.

When I went to the local auto electrician where I got the last one for the Morris Minor I obviously got the not interested salesman as he told me to get one online!

Flash speed with a two pin flasher is a function of electrical load and temperature. Do you have the correct power indicator lamps?

Posted

In the context of being rather keen on something and appreciating it's merits, what's the difference between a fanboy and an apologist please?

Posted

An apologist can explain or otherwise justify his position but a fanboy is just caught up with the fashion and hype of something.

I could explain why I like my 06 Transit, but my colleague with the lowered 06 DubVan just bangs on about how cool it is and lists the brand names of all the tat he has bought for it. He is the fanboy.

Does it flash fast in both directions? If so, its likely the relay. If not, it's the bulbs or wireing.

This should do:

I had the opposite problem on my 1961 Reliant i.e. flashers too slow.  Everyone raved about electronic flasher units being the absolute cure.  I bought one suitable for a positive earth, 12V system and fitted it.  It was perfect whilst the engine was running at fast tickover and above, but at idle and with the engine off (ignition on), it did not flash at all.  Further investigation indicated (pun intended) that electronic units are sensitive to input voltage, particularly <12V.  In the end, I fitted the old flasher but rewired its supply loom to run directly off the battery via the switch and all has been well ever since.  The only slight peculiarity is that the indicators will work on command as long as the battery is connected.  I by-passed the ignition circuit and switch.

Many cars give a "risk of ice" warning. My old Volvo T5 had a red snowflake, my current C4 VTS flashes the temperature and puts the message in the display. My stupid question is this; It will flash (ie risk of ice) from 3 degrees to -3 degrees. At -4 degrees it doesn't flash and no warning is given. I don't get it, do we not have ice at below -3 degrees?

Is the engine in the KIA Ceed 1.6 diesel the same hopeless pile of wank found in Focus and PSA stuff?

Doubt it - Hyundai are an engine manufacturer as far as I know....
