478 miles in 2 days... in a 2CV!!!!

Home now (must be the last!) after a detour via my folks for Sunday lunch, and despite the mileage it was almost completely trouble free (the left indicator has given up now... for reasons unknown...)  shows what an awesome little car that 2CV is! At home on the motorway, on a field or in that there London!

It was genuinely awesome to meet some forum faces who I’d never met before and catch up with some I know a little better!

Massive thanks to @purplebargeken for allowing us to interrupt his morning to retrieve @Mrsbrownnova‘s phone!

Truly awesome time.. catch some of you at Chumley!

Those in the FOD will have been aware the Stanza was suffering some aux belt issues

The chatter was generally hands cupped to ears and people saying "Ahhh I can hear the 80s!"

They quite literally all did that sir.  The Pug 309 I was driving in period certainly did.

I was quite impressed by that car! @mitsisigma01

Scary the proportion of cars in that album I recognise as being AS owners.

I suppose FoTU is Shitefest National in all but name.

Would be interesting to find out how many cars attending FoTU actually belong to AS subscribers.

Really looking forward to Cholmondeley now.  Which *05 to take though?!

An interesting thing noted at the FoD is that both mine and Mr. Fowler's Volvos are orignally Surrey registered. There's a good chance they might even have come from the same dealership when new!

Trigger won THE AS NATIONAL, and some!  Not only that, shortly before he won, some spamhead slated the car to his face...

Although I only decided to go a few days before the event I'm glad I did as I can't remember the last time I saw so many rare yet everyday cars in one place. It was great to put faces to some more of the names on the forum too. The 205 performed well and was in its element on the twisty B roads.

Congrats to Trigger on winning best in show against some very strong competition, well deserved. ?

To be fair, most of the people off here that were there yesterday are somewhere in the background of a number of photos. It would make a fun game of spot the shitter.

Overall it was a truly excellent day; one of my highlights of the year so far.

The breakfast and convoy down was very entertaining. BorniteIdenty's near miss with a Focus saloon, seeing the angles Wuvvum's Renault managed to achieve going around corners and being joined by a random Audi 80 along the way were all brilliant moments. The incident in Morrisons was also a highlight, sitting down at the table about to rip the piss out of Trigger for dropping a tissue on the way over, before realising it was a completely different person. Thankfully he missed me almost going into the wrong toilets afterwards, otherwise that would have been the cherry on top.

The show itself was something else; the quantity and range of cars there was almost unbelievable. I couldn't get around fast enough to see everything there. Too many cars to mention as highlights, but the blue Viceroy did make me look wistfully at the auction ending a few hours after the show (thankfully the house has now taken up all my money, otherwise I could have got in some serious trouble). It looked ropy enough to get me fired if it ever ventured to the work car park, but looked remarkably solid underneath.

Thanks to everyone for being such great company and both Mr & Mrs Six-Cylinder for the field this weekend, and apologies again for crashing the moped (and also to SMH for doing it less than half a foot from the front of the Mercedes). Despite that, it was an exceptionally good day. I am looking forward to next year's already.

I really like this.  The car looks better from the back anyway, you can see my lurid shirt and also @brownnova and @davidfowler2000beyond.  I may well bung him a £5 and have this on the fridge.  Or take down one of the pictures of the kids and see how long it takes Mrs Bornite to realise.

Ah well, another year, another Unexceptional not attended.
I'm really happy Trigger won, however.

Till next time, eh?

I've only just recovered from the non-stop excitement of such an epic weekend. Having been to every FOTU since it started in 2014, I can honestly say it just keeps getting bigger and better. There was almost too much to take in and things that would make you go 'wow' at any other show barely merited a second glance. The atmosphere in the FOD afterwards was electric - so much to see and do, vehicles buzzing up and down and everyone just chilling out and having a great time. Thanks to everyone who participated and here's to the next time. I have hundreds of pics so here's a small selection to give a flavour of what went on.

We got ourselves a convoy! Had an interesting moment immediately after departure when we met a 38-tonne artic coming the other way round the corner from the FOD.

The Festival was achieved. The Maxi was special* and put on the hill in the anniversary class far away from the plebs in the classic parking.

Winners were picked. Congrats again to @trigger for taking top honours with his magnificent Marina that's bluer than the Stone of Galveston.

As the show drew to a close, cars of the same type started naturally pairing up

Then it was back to the FOD for more merriment

Many happy scenes

And the Field of Dreams Invacar breeding programme was a great success - we even managed to release one into the wild

It was simply amazing from start to finish and I wouldn't have missed it for the world.

You'll never find me in any photos. Even the CX escapes the cameras most of the time.

Oh, me and my mate got papped twice on that photographer link. Obvious which one is my by the t-shirt, he's the one in the orange t shirt with the mocha coffee spillage stain. Then again in his combo as we left.
