What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

The biggest shame there is that the McLaren wasn't owned by a boxer or cage fighter.

Nipped round to see a SOHO client (small office/home-office) this morning for a quick check on how his new Outlook was behaving, as he wanted to be sure he's not missing anything (he's not, it's 100%)

Turns out he does accountancy work for a large drinks firm among other things, gave me these.

How nice! A case of big ones coming my way for the holidays as well.

Since you asked... Yes.

I'm not going to excuse you passing judgement and wishing ill on anyone with money because of a few bellends.

Whilst i will agree there's a lot of vulgar people about who make their shopping choices based on the visibility of the price tag unless you're forced to work or socialise with these people does it really matter what they do (it's not as though being a flash git equates to rape/gbh/murder/theft)?

Getting upset about and it and having an attitude that the destruction of expensive cars is ok is the kind of thing that leads to stuff like this.

http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/teen-admits-jumping-bonnet-250k-7365956

And I'll make no differentiation between this and the people who battered their doors into AngryDicky's Meastro because it was just some old banger (something that pops regularly in the grumpy thread and always attracts sympathy).

The vulgar who want to be noticed, TOWIE, the x-factor etc are all feeding on the attention. Its best to step away and leave them to it.

I'm not condoning the wanton destruction of property under any circumstances and hope that little scroat jumping on that McLaren gets a thoroughly good pasting. A kick boxing owner would be fantastic as Corsaviour suggests.

Le Tour in Yorkshire. I've had a fantastic couple of days, up at half 3 both mornings, yesterday as a tourmaker in Leeds and today to be in position at Blubberhouses, the first climb of the day. By the time the riders were due to arrive it was no longer a decent position, there were so many people out on the climb, so we walked further down and blagged a great position just on the edge of the Police cordon for the narrowest part of the climb, helped no doubt by offering the ginger policeman there some of our sunscreen!

Yes, shame Mark Cavendish got a bit over-enthusiastic on the finish. Looks like a wonderful turnout in Yorkshire on the coverage.

My mate rolled his car last night. When I got to him he wasn't moving, and was laying half in, half out of the car...

I was sat in a pub in sheffield for most of yesterday afternoon, we were watching the cycling on the big screen. They turned it over for football when the programme started 45 mins before the game, with half an hour of the cycling left. The whole pub shouted and boo'd until they turned it back on!

My mum and stepdad booked themselves a travelodge for a few nights up in yorkshire somewhere last year so they went up and stood by the finishing line to watch.

You Yorkshire-ites are very lucky to have the TDF coming though, it must be brilliant. Haven't watched anywhere near enough of it, but what I've seen was quality.

an avantime is mine

YAY - soon to be AVANTIME FRIENDS!

Is this going to be the new car of the forum, where suddenly everyone on here has one, like Citroen XMs were with Leyland Princesses before that, Rover R8 (200 and 400) before that and then the massive plague of Citroen BXs from a couple of years ago?

Been out on a massive bike ride today, and in the middle I stopped up Woodhead to watch the Tour de France.

As the main pack of bikes passed me, someone chucked an empty water bottle away, it bounced on the road and landed in my open rucksack, the right way up, looking as if it had always been there  :-D

VAG made me grin today : the alternator belt tensioner in Mrs.Fraud's hideous little VW is a really smart design that allowed me to change the belt in ten minutes, using only a 14mm spanner !

Nowhere as good as a Beetle, where you can change the fanbelt in ten seconds, with the engine still running, blindfolded and with both hands tied behind your back. But as far as modern shite with serpentine belts go, it was unexpectedly hassle-free !

Well R9UKE has a couple so between us we've got to have a decent percent of the UK population between us. My one is a lowly 2.0 turbo but still a nice car and it went for a couple of hundred quid less than I was willing to pay, which is good and has had the dreaded timing belt change. Looking forward to getting it I hope it works okay for the time period until I get my horrible new, new car.

The MG Saloon day prevented the BMC BL rally being awash with moderns. There was one MG3 (which looked quite smart. I like them), a few 75s and the odd MGF. Much more old tin.

Got held up on the A303 today by something towing an elderly caravan. Passed it when the road turned back into a dual carriageway and discovered the tow car was an immaculate beige Triumph 2000 saloon.

I'm gutted I haven't managed to do my bike lessons/test yet, I'm itching to get to some of the rfoc meets so I can put some names to faces

stars-9.gif I just hit 1,000 feedback on eBay and got my red star. Took one month short of 14 years, so I estimate I'll get the next one (green) in about 56 years. stars-9.gif

I am as good as engaged to be married now. Possible_Lady_Sterling has now become Lady_Sterling-in-waiting......

This makes me quietly very happy, nowt can top this. Not even a Shantung Gold D-reg Mk1 Sterling in as-new condition delivered to my door, for free. (But it'd be bloody well close)

Wonderful news! Congratulations, old boy.

coming back from a pub lunch yesterday saw a 5 series parked up with front fogs on........so obviously the driver is a cock.

Then saw male driver and his bird........bird had camera and was saying 'c'mon hurry up' as she encouraged him to stand in the front of the road name sign.

Coming round a bend on a single-track lane yesterday to find an Audi driver hurtling towards me. I stopped, he (just) stopped and I reversed back to a passing place. What made me grin was the difference in the acknowledgements I got - the typical raise of a finger off the steering wheel from the driver, but an sheepish, apologetic wave from the lady in the passenger seat. You just *knew* from her expression that the driver had an earwigging coming on!

Turns out my new Avantime was at one point part of the worlds biggest Avantime fleet. They were purchased by a computer company called taylor made and all resprayed Monaco blue for some corporate reason. They all have the reg HK03... and I see on twitter R9UKE also bought one of these HK03 cars back in March.

Company cars seem to have been downgraded a bit since, I'd have quit if I worked there

After having a fleet of Avantimes conking out for three years they probably just decided to buy the most reliable cars on the market. I bet the words "never again" were spoken at that board meeting.

Well, at least I now know who I would call to ask for hands on experience in case I wanted an Avantime.

You can just imagine the beads of sweat appearing on the fleet managers brow at the mention of the word Avantime.

It's a Xantia on three spokes.  Not the three spokes I'd use, but it makes me happy that it exists.
