2) Going to Ikea when I owned my Victor pickup. I bought a big wall thing with shelves which came in a set of boxes. Brought the Victor round to loading bay, the lope of the exhaust note reverberating off the building. I hefted everything into the back, tied it down and then got a guilty pang of satisfaction as the lady in the BMW X5 who had turned her nose up at me loading stuff into a 70's heap of shite busted her back window by slamming it down on a cabinet she'd had to take out of its box to fit in the back of her vehicle.

^ I'd Imagine the 2 bits of legislation are related, kids are allowed mopeds at 16 so they can get to work. If they can now have one of these microcar things (which they won't be able to afford) then the government can placate Trigger and the OMG think of the childrens safety twats by getting them off mopeds.

 

The big downside is that driver skills will plummet as far fewer people will learn them on small motorbikes like they have in the past.

 

 

But as this is the grin thread, I'm smiling because I'm back on term time shifts this week so I can weld up the Austin without worrying about giving the local kids arc eye

My mate gave me a welder - "powercraft" that he bought from aldi. It was cracking for a year but then the wire feed packed up and he couldnt find the reciept. I took it to bits and it just needs a new motor, and it turns out its just a SIP 135 rebadged - even the bloody PCBs say SIP on them. not that sip welders are really any good but it's better than the chonk rubbish I expected.

 

Another mate brought me some 160 amp ESAB welder over to fix, it had wire feed but no current. Must weight 100kg, it's the biggest MIG welder I've ever seen. Fixed it with a 27P transistor, and he's given me an auto-dimming mask and loads of beer for fixing it.

 

Mate number three (look at me!) donated a pretty good Makita drill with fucked brushes and battery. £4 brushes, a few new cells in the battery and £3 capacitor to convert a 120v charger to 240 and I'm away. Happy days!

The problem around here is that all the mopeds seems to go considerably quicker then 30mph, in a 30mph zone, they all travel in packs swarming your car from both sides making car drivers feel very intimidated and many of the bikes don't even look fit to be on the road, It's a real bug bear of mine.

So... Today's plan was to sort out the Princess and rebook the MoT but this has been cut short by being given a start date for work of tomorrow morning at 5:30am. This is great, I'll be earning some proper money. However, I'm not sure how many days I'm on (rotational shift days, morning shifts) so I'm not sure when to book the MoT or when I'll have the time to sort the car out.

 

What will probably happen is that I'll let the MoT and tax lapse for a little bit while I do some work for a couple of weeks and save up some cash. 12 week contract here I come, hopefully leading to full time work. Now, if only I had Mr Boll's recent FSO acquisition I could make instant friends with the large number of Polish workers at the factory. I am inordinately excited at the prospect of pushing trolleys around a factory and commuting with my brother in his Skoda.

Right. Today I got myself a package containing a rear ashtray and a pair of fog lights for the K11, but not only did the seller send the ashtray, he also sent the centre console with it which I didnt expect, at least its a spare. I already have a rear ashtray but its Beige and cracked on one side. For the fog lights I'll need another light stalk with front fog light selection, apart from that I'm hoping its merely plug 'n' play. I know low-spec K11 Micras have a lot of hidden wires/plugs for upgrades.

 

Hopefully on Sunday I may be taking part in the collection of an SD1, I dont think I'll get to drive it though which is understandable.

Picking up work's Sherpa from MOT (failed), in rolls a former colleague - a British Airways captain who defended me to the hilt when I went through my issues with BA.

04-plate 2.0T, manual 'box. Also to be LPG'd. This bloke is minted, does joinery as a sideline, and has just replaced an LPG equipped Rover 25 1.4 with an Espace Turbo. I did mention the site but I suspect this place'd be dangerous with the chod that he seems to approve it...

Did my CBT a couple of months ago, great, isn't it? I found it a huge eye opener, never felt so vulnerable, especially on roads I've known for years in a car. It's made me much more aware of motorbikes when driving, I reckon everyone should have some experience of it as part of driver training, although granted it would cause problems for anyone who can't ride a bike!

Had a pretty good day as it goes. 33 mile bike ride (char-i-dee) then some general car pissing about and the breadknife's just found a small hedgehog outside the Co-op.

It's probably really pissed off now as no-one got it 10 L&B and a bargain bin out of date bread roll and we took it to some fields where hopefully it can make a home or whatever they do. I fully expect to see it's mum come round later in a nightie, effing and jeffing about me picking on her son.

Being entrusted to drive my brother's Skoda to and from work on my own with my appalling sense of direction. The new job is ace, I'm really enjoying it (two days in), but then I get a ridiculous amount of satisfaction from menial tasks that employ both mind and body... or as the job goes: sorting out labels, packing boxes, and picking stock. Why did I ever let anyone talk me into doing office work for all these years where I'd be bored, often depressed, surrounded by smug orange arseholes and felt as though I was contributing nothing but paperwork to the world? It might not be glamourous, but factory work is a damned site more satisfying and better for all of my health than those boring, besuited offices ever were.

 

As the old saying goes: I'd rather be poor and happy than rich and miserable! Thing is, I won't really be any worse off as I'll still be on minimum wage so really, for me, I'm quids in here. This is my happy face, yes it is.

Went to a small show near Bury St. Edmunds this morning, wasn't the biggest of turn outs but a few interesting motors there, mostly old Fords though, then on the way back myself and another couple were friends with decided to visit a small bygones museum nearby which turned out to be pretty good with a few old cars on display including another Mk3 Cortina.

 

The biggest fun though was following my mate through the Suffolk countryside in his genuine Escort Mexico, I couldn't stop grinning following him though the country lanes, They still look as good now as they did 20 years ago, Pretty quick too!.

Council arrived today to dig up the entrance outside my house, they're put new pavements down along my street, the reason I'm happy about this is at long last I'll be getting a full width dropped kerb as before It was only across as far as the block paving meaning i had to bump up a kerb all the time, Got to bung the workmen a drink for it though.

Proton Wira saloon in the works car park with Polish plates and hire company words down the sides. Sadly, no camera. There's some proper shite in the works car park, almost all of which are Polish, it's fantastic and is one of the reasons it's a great place to work.
