Relatives getting to old and busted? Simply bridge them. I did do an article (and get paid for it) as part of the interview process though, so technically I have worked as a motoring journalist. I think the main reason I didn't get the job is because I decided to go full Clarkson and start slagging off caravan owners (which didn't make it past the editor).

wuvvum 33234
Driving through a nearby village this afternoon I spotted my old Movano parked up at the side of the road. I thought that was long dead given that when I sold it it was out of MOT and the engine was on its last legs, but someone must have fixed it because I checked online when I got home and it's still T&T'd. Soundwave 868
Took the Rover out for a supply run earlier (an essential journey... perhaps somewhat offset by the non essential journey I made in the MX-5 to the unit where the Rover is kept!), first proper drive since I adjusted the clutch last week. Rovorsche 2089
I noticed with morbid cheer a vehicle parked up the road has no more MOT. An LDV Maxus, ex builder van from a loft conversion company, hi-top that only moved if it had spent a day on a battery charger. Most of the passenger side has been battered to buggery and left to rust, the side door looked in danger of detaching completely. In short it is a bloody shed missing only the Police Aware notice to look abandoned. I hope it wont be coming back after this and eight major defects, some MOT tester has had enough! Do not drive until repaired (dangerous defects): Exhaust emits excessive smoke or vapour likely to obscure the vision of other road users (8.2.2.2 (c)) BX06 ZNC for the curious It will cheer his neighbour up no end, the view from his front window has been a red LDV fizzing into oxide for quite a few years.
