What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Went to see The Cure in Hyde park yesterday, I'm still mostly deaf with an ear infection so I'm not sure if the other acts were supposed to all sound like The Mission & Jesus and Mary Chain but either my ears improved or the sound guys did for The Cure!!

But the biggest grin was spotting a random guy with a PWEI logo painted on the arm of his leather jacket and just for a little while I was back in Birmingham in '92...

Anyway for Hooli T Shirts were £25 and bootlegs were £10 being sold in front of the police horses.....

1 of our neighbours moved his collection out the gate whilst he sorted a leaky roof on 1 of his barns.

Behold the holy beige trinity

Why on earth would a pollen filter be filtering out poisonous particles?

They're meant for pollen. And according to that picture, leaves too. Lots of leaves.

As for adding it to an old car, job done. You're welcome.

Carbon activated filters help filter out some of the nasties in the air. A lot of filters for cars can come that as an option. However not all. Percuilarly the Civic never had a carbon activated filter available. I've noticed that Mann have some super duper one now that they claim filter out even more. I put one in the TT. I'm still alive* so it must be good.

Yes and I can see the tarmac! :D I have been contemplating on how hard it would be to retrofit an Aircon system from like a Corsa into a classic.

Its not cheap, but Car Builder Solutions do a range of universal heat and aircon stuff for custom installations.

Thanks, looks a brilliant resource.

Certainly not cheap. But in this weather it seems quite reasonable! The more important/interesting thing is that they provide all the fixings+fittings and can properly crimp the hoses for 50quid. The biggest costs are the condenser, compressor and evaporator. I reckon with a second hand ones of them and some new pipes+fittings, it wouldn't be too horrifically expensive to do. Air con systems aren't very complex either. Just 2 rads, compressor, pressure switch, expansion valve and pipework. If a heater matrix & system was foregone, installation would be easier too. Shame that these can't easily be ran in reverse.

Have a look on Ali express there's a range of in vehicle units that you can plumb up to generic scrapyard parts. Alternatively Australia and the US have them as period add on units.

Despite being Scottish and desperately wanting to see England out of the cup, this was too good not to share.

I generally hold the same view, but I'm mellowing.

Southgate appears to be a gent. I know it's trivial, but the waistcoat, shirt and tie, says "professional".

There's not a single prima donna or celebrity in the squad and I've seen no photos of the wags.

They went there with low expectations and are in the semis.

If they get to the final, I can, despite 52 years of supporting whoever England play and, against all the odds, see me supporting England.

Yep, I was directly underneath it at the Yorkshire Wartime Experience near Tong, Bradford, at about 3.15 pm (because I couldn't give a toss about bladder-kicking).

Its altitude was around 500 feet :-)

EDIT someone's posted a video of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNc3-7lVeTw

It was fairly quiet this year, probably because of the footy.

If you make it next year, me & some mates will be putting on archery, air rifles, crossbows, axe throwing & spear throwing there as a have-a-go event for the public... let us know who you are & I'll make sure you get some free goes :-)

Despite the 29 degree heat I still raced in a 3 hr enduro . Actually riding for more than that !

Beat both my mates and got some valuable points for the sw championship.

That combined with a lovely day with my daughter and the new lady stopping over tonight has made a cracking weekend

Takes me right back to a Wrexham nightclub I worked in, in the 80s.

That sounds excellent and thanks in advance! Shame we missed it then this year if it was quite as mini Shrimp is always asking people stuff but when it's busy he won't.

We went to one a few years ago at Elvington that was pretty good but he wanted to see the tanks drive. Tbh though some of the people dressed up were miserable sods who didn't like you speaking to them.

Reading through a 1993 copy of Autotrader. The old Sierras were hot property back then a bit like mk2 Focuses now, loads of 80-82 type Cortina Crusaders going for £3-500. Occasionally a Rover 2600 or 3500 in 'fair' condition for pennies. I'd read that as in tappety as fuck and pissing in water round the windows.

One thing I noticed was the amount of cars having had new clutches and recon engines. Every likelihood a car at a thousand quid would be on its original now.

Gutted at the tidy RS2000 Custom bored out to 2.1 for £1295 or the 1.6 Sport Escort for £395. Difficult to believe now but these cars were that cheap then, about that time my brother had a 1.6 Sport in sunburst red. Be worth an insane amount now.

This particular event is near Cleckheaton in West Yorks, but we do other stuff during the year e.g. the Malham Safari which is right next to KruJoe's place - that happens at the end of May / early June every year  :-)

The exhibitors and re-enactors at the YWE are more than happy to chat to the public, last year we got a ride around the main arena in an FV103 Spartan armoured personnel carrier just from chatting to its owner.

Fitting one to the 1100 would need to have the A/C switch changed for the "Hill Climb" button from a Discovery, because you'd need to press it if you planned on going uphill.

You know, I would too but it's the thought of them banging on about it non-stop for the next 50 fucking years that fills me with dread.

In 1998, Scotchland were seeded above them in the world cup finals, purely because they were in a much easier group. Cue national hysteria with the national newspapers (and as such most of their readership) expressing their dismay that a country whose team won the world cup in a mere 32 years ago should be seeded lower than those hairy northerners. Pointing out that half of that squad were now pensioners and that Bobby Moore had been dead for 5 years already at that point simply resulted in a load of verbal and attacks against Scotland.

Ditto here, I'm of mixed English, Scottish & German heritage and so have never picked a national team to back. As it goes I've not watched a full game of poofball since the 1986 FA cup final when I was 7 (I think Wimbledon won it). I'm just not interested in the game one bit and the big headedness of 'star' England players (Beckham, Rooney, Lineker, the Ferdinands, Wright etc) over the years just grates me - 22 overinflated egos chasing a pig's bladder full of wind.

The reason I would and probably will watch England if they the final is because it'll be a once in a lifetime historical moment. As others have said though, we'll not hear the last of it for 300 quadrillion years whatever the result.
