I don’t want to jinx it but we’ve had BT “fibre” for 3 years with only one or two days where it’s dropped out. Never had to deal with them direct other than the annual call to get the “special offer” line rental renewed.

I've got to do the Broadband Shuffle soon when my Virgin contract expires.

I really don't want to stay with Virgin, they're like that girlfriend I used to have who was really nice when she wanted something and then used to beat me and leave me in a locked room whilst she spend all my money. They're dead nice and get you a good "deal" when you phone up to cancel, and then chuck the price up two or three times during the contract before knocking it down to only slightly more than it was when you phone back to cancel 12 months later.

 

I think I might go Fibre for the better upload speeds (they offer 20Mb over 3Mb I currrently get) but I'm yet to find anyone that isn't branded an incompetent bunch of morons to do it.

I've got ad block on my phone. Think it's the same one as you get for the PC. Does and OK job not 100% but better than nothing.

Couple of evenings ago had a massive grin on my face when someone in a lowered, spoilered and loud turbo equipped BMW decided automatically to pull out to overtake me away from the lights.

 

I very childishly gave it full beans away from the lights (70mph dual carriageway) in the Activa.  BMW driver and his passenger were mightily surprised I think to find that they weren't gaining ground on a nondescript old Citroen.

 

Traction was definitely the limiting factor through to fourth gear.

 

That thing really does go when you tell it to.

 

They sailed off into the distance after a couple of roundabouts as I wasn't willing to massively ignore speed limits!

So he has spent £4000 in a Vauxhall Corsa.

Took the RRS off the road and into the garage as it is still on finance.

So he has spent £4k savings,still paying finance just to save a couple of quid on fuel and tax.

Last year it went to Sytner, where miniskirted lasses greeted me in their indoor dropoff zone, a pleasant man (wearing a very nice suit, because I'm trying to balance my sexist comments) made me a coffee and booked it in, and I got a Mini Cooper auto courtesy car.

 

This year, I've had to take it to a (very) local indie. They specialise in truck repairs, they're on an industrial estate littered with dumped cars and burger vans, and there was nowhere to park.

 

However.... They did give me a courtesy car. A Sandero!

 

It's brilliantly awful. I feel like the king of the blanking plates.

our 17 year old Beemer was in for an airbag recall and we got the full treatment including a full valet free of charge, when I took my wife’s year old Fiat for its first service I got a Luke warm cup of tea in a portacabin (to be fair they are refurbishing the service waiting area).

I’ve lost count of the amount of people I’ve heard needing a pair of tyres and a service then bail on a car because ‘its giving them a lot of trouble’.

 

A mate of mine said he got a lot of people coming into the Mercedes garage with a E class on PCP horrified at the £500 service bills or £200 a pop tyres. Can’t imagine they’d let you fit a pair of ‘loveyoulongtime radials’ either if they were planning on retailing it at the end of the term.

Surprised at this, would’ve thought a company car would’ve had to go to a main dealer always.

 

At my old work regardless of whether it was a funded contract (my work owned the car outright) or whether it was a lease, rental or buyback deal they had the car on, ALL Volvo, Merc, Audi, BMW, Jag, Land Rover, Lexus, Mini, Porsche etc went to the main dealer for everything except tyres. So servicing, repairs etc as well as warranty.

 

The rest whether it was a base Kia Picanto or a £30,000 Mondeo Titanium X or a VW Tiguan R-Line got chucked into Halfords autocentre for everything except tyres and warranty work.

 

The rationale being the prestige branded cars would be easier to shift and worth more money cone disposal time, because prestige buyers cared more about dealer stamps in the book whereas buyers of run of the mill Vauxhall, Ford, VW, PSA, Toyota, Kia etc wouldn’t care. Only bonus for us was not having to deal with Arnold Clark that often as all their prestige dealerships were further away and the nearest BM, Merc, Jag, Volvo And LR dealerships were operated by Parks, Stratstone/Pendragon, Lookers/Taggarts. Etc

 

I did like the Merc places as they had a cubbyhole in the showroom which was the parts department waiting area which had random parts like a bonnet from an old C-class, oil filters broken in 2 to see the inside etc deliberately put there to show the range of parts the Main dealer could provide.

It's a 2.5 year old car on 55k so I don't know if they've decided a main dealer service history isn't adding anything to the value, it'll be knocking 100k when I give it back and probably to straight to auction rather than a dealer forecourt.

 

They've just phoned to say they can't get an oil filter for my BMW though so I've got the Sandero for another day! Gotta do 250 miles in it tomorrow.…..

None of ours have to go to a main dealer either, cars or the commercials.

 

All ours are owned by Lex, they let you use anywhere that's on their books (which is loads of garages!) and that does include main dealers if that's what you want.

 

My old Sprinter went back to Pentagon Mercedes commercials for a lot of servicing etc. The one I've got now just goes round to the local garage. Even the first warranty services are included wherever the driver wants. As long as it's done I don't think Lex care.
