What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

I'm very slowly compiling a list of things that I'm amazed they let you take on trains.

Years ago a builder neighbour in Ricky had his HA van engine go pop, he pulled it and went off to one of those Heathrow based engine exchange shitehawks by train with a shopping trolley to move the lumps.

BX finally started this morning with a jump. Battery obviously flat as a pancake. A relief.

Saw a well known local at Tesco a few minutes ago.

When you think though, It's just a mower, and it's only a train. I'm glad it worked out well, that reminds me, I need to rebuild the carb on my mower again.

You say its just a mower but I wouldn't like to get knocked to the ground and have a running one put over me

I don't have many as I didn't keep it long.

RR lump & gearbox mated to a series transfer box, so cross member moved & welded back in. Oh &  P6 timing case, water pump etc to make the engine short enough to not need to move the rad. It went rather well up to about 65-70 & annoyed a few chav mobiles.

I have no photographic evidence of this, and believe me - there is no-one more sad than me about that, but.

Earlier, on the way home from work I witnessed an unladen off-white Mk1 transit beavertail being drifted around a wet roundabout then nailed off up the road. It was a magnificent sight.

Saw a red squirrel yesterday in a newly-colonised wood a couple of miles away (they've been in the south of the island for years, but I can't be arsed driving that far for them) so they're still increasing. And saw a hare today, for the first time in years, properly impressive creatures.

So far the list has comprised just 'Motorbike Wheels' which I happily took, one under each arm - completely unchallenged - on the train and then underground to Borough station in central London.

Today, the list doubled. I arranged to sell a mower to a chap and he asked if he could meet me at the local station. "no problem" thought I. Anyway, the bloke was good to his word, paid the asking price and made smalltalk. I offered to help him get it into his car, but he replied "No need mate, I'm going home on the train"

Ok. well, its your mower now so off you go.

He happily wheeled a petrol mower, which I had just demonstrated running and with half a tank of pez straight past a British Transport policeman and two South West Trains employees and off onto the platform. They didn't even blink. I got a text later on saying thanks and how pleased he is with it.

Incredible.

You'll be pleased to learn about the New York subway rules then. They have decided that you can take your dog so long as it fits in a bag. Cue people with rucksacks etc. with Huskies Labs etc. in them.

Sorry about the music.

I used to love wet weather on the way back to the yard when I drove 7.5T drop side trucks. They could drift all sodding day AND take up all three lanes :D

Reminds me of the time I accidentally drifted a HiJet pickup around a roundabout (while Ms C followed in the car),  I only needed one lane.

Beetle passed MOT today, had to take the duvet off of the car and drive it in the pouring rain though.

Gave the MOT tester a few clues on where buttons are!

A friend of mine did the 'sell up and move to France' thing a few years back.  He went to a car boot sale in the local town but it was all down the high street, not in an open space like here.  At one stall, surrounded by junk, he noticed a nice antique decorative cast iron bollard, about 1m in height (well, he was in France..)  He thought it would look good at the end of his drive.  He gestured in his broken french that he'd like to buy it.  After a few attempts at communication, the elderly couple fell about laughing, he thought that they were taking the piss at his attempt of their language.  Until they pointed out to him that it was one of a row of bollards spaced at intervals all along the street.....

Those were good when I delivered paint. Control of the recovery was important not to spill it too..

My greatest achievement was a tri-axle coach sideways in 4th (about 25-30mph) on a roundabout, then out the other way all the way across a bridge over the A27 & sideways on the next roundabout. Bottom of Long Furlong for those that know it. Frosty roads & empty coaches are surprisingly good fun...

Our PCP'd Nissan Leaf has been picked up today, two years old and 10700 miles on the clock. I was a little sad to see it go but never felt like I owned it and the last few weeks have been a stress with it, especially having to pay 360 quid to get some damage fixed, why the grin thread then? well because I'm now 'saving' over 200 quid a month.
