At present we’re trying to choose the paint colour for our living room, after a full-on refurb involving insulating the outside wall, building a new chimney breast, replacing the carpet and buying new sofas. So a bit of a blank canvas really and the culmination of nearly 10 years’ graft on our place (and why I don’t have as much time as I’d like to do things with my old cars other than drive them to work).

Basically the colour we want is beige, a bit darker than magnolia. Numerous tester pots have been purchased, none of which remotely resemble the colour printed in the chart.

While I was looking at AS last night, Mrs SL glanced over my shoulder and declared that the colour we want is the background on here.

I'm at mugello for the motogp, it's 10.45 Friday morning and I've been offered sangria from a cement mixer and there's a guy revving a Fiat punto engine on a stand with mahoosive exhausts. These guys are heavily drunk and they've still got to survive Friday and Saturday nights alcohol

I saw a Ukip van, "The only trustworthy party, British things for British people, Proud to be British" (Paraphrasing, but you get the idea)

What I found odd, was it looked to be a Peugeot Partner...

Hmmm, a quick Google and here she is.

With a Daily Mirror story

I'm not saying they should use a Moggy Van, but I dunno a 2012 Transit would be more of a British thing to show, also that van looks to be older than i am.

Vote Ukip, vote for £850 vans.

Vote Ukip, we don't want to piss money away on campaign nonsense as we shall never win.

Vote Ukip, this van costs us £1000s every month in British garages on repairs.

I spotted this pair on the way into work on Friday :)

Following on from the discussion on period correct number plates the other day, it's great to see this pair on yellow and blacks. Shame the Maxi doesn't look too well, gravitationally.

Bought something off eBay. Postage charges were pretty steep, but it's something my girlfriend has wanted for a while and it's the only one I've seen for sale, so whatever.

Got a message - 'sorry, I guessed at the postage and it turned out to be less than I thought - I've refunded the difference in to your PayPal account'.

Since when does eBay have nice people on it?

Not sure if it is a grin or a grump.

Very rarely I post about car woes but the C5 has been running a bit 'lumpy' when driving at 30mph on flat roads - sort of hunting.

Had the codes read at the Wetherby CCC meet a couple of weeks ago and just about everything possible was wrong with the car, except it wasn't.

I suspected a droopy injector and an injection problem was reported but no communication with the injection ECU? Well, it is French so shouldn't be surprised.

Anyway, cleaned the MAF as it is an easy job and that and the run to Wetherby seem to have fixed it.

But last Friday - bloody hot here - the EML came on - first time ever.

Being French I left it and it went away but the thermometer was reading a bit high, unusual in the extreme.

Radiator fan seized :(

New one £96 but with the weekend discount only £62 :)

For fuck's sake, do we still have to have this constant bloody bickering and sniping on EVERY SINGLE FUCKING THREAD?

I can't be the only one who's heartily bloody sick of it.

Today both cars in the fleet were treated to brand new Uniroyal RainExpert tyres on the front wheels, courtesy of AS-favourite Tyreleader.

The Saab had worn the inner edge because I didn't get the tracking done last time theime they were changed, and the Toyota needed new tyres as Wife_Stanky is doing a lot more miles now with her job so needed fresh boots.

The transformation on both cars is amazing, I know they wear quite fast but the road noise and handling on both cars is massively improved.

The indy tyre fitter also commented on how nice the Saab was which was nice of him, and only charged a tenner a tyre to fit them which is the cheapest locally by a fiver a pop.

Dear god, 15 quid to fit a tyre? thats outrageous, even the massive chains dont charge a tenner round here, most places will do it for well under a tenner, infact thats considered expensive, or it was, not had any tyres changed recently where i havent had them changed by the place supplying the tyres where its built in to the cost.

My local UKIP candidate used a Peugeot 407 estate. Why do they hate Britain?

Perhaps they're labouring under the misapprehension that Pugs are still made in Ryton, although given they seem to want the UK to go back to the 1950s it would have to be some kind of Rootes chod for the correct level of era-authentic bonkersness.

Welcome to the real world where tyre changers are about a grand and wheel balancers 1500 or so

Despite going our separate ways over 20 years ago I still see a lot of my ex as we have 2 sons and now a granddaughter, I look after her old car and she is excellent with my old  dad and so on.  I was at her house this morning talking to her in sun in the back garden when a seagull flew over and dropped an airburst shite which spattered her leg, bare shoulder and head. Best thing I've seen for a long while! :-D

twosmoke, this may be SQA fodder but is it possible to balance a wheel without a machine? Or is it impossible?

I don't begrudge the tyre fitter bloke, he's happy to fit tyres he supplies, part-worns or tyres bought elsewhere and does a thorough job while offering interesting conversation at the same time.

One of his minions built his own 2-seater space frame buggy which is road legal and powered by a rear-mounted Alfa boxer engine and its often in there for me to drool over.

You can buy bubble level type balancers but I don't know how good they are

Posted

I worked for National Tyre Service back in the early 70s and we balanced wheels on a bubble balance. Never had a problem. Did the wheels on my Capri 3.0 and they were fine.

Took a nice picture over the wall at Peveril Castle this morning
