Seat belts should not be an issue as they are standard fit for the car, blah, blah, blah.

Hope so, but the seats are standard fit and are not good enough as need a head restraint.

 

Are you planning to do all the teaching yourself? I pretty much did. Robin had some lessons when he was 17 then went off to college for a couple of years, so  by the time he came back to the driving. The important thing is you have to be absolutely calm at all times. I have a pile of unread books on driving instruction (bought when I was considering it as a career about ten years ago) that you are welcome to.   

 

You'll no doubt have to fend off loads of helpful* advice about it being better to use an instructor's car but it's the driver who's being tested, not the car. If I spent my life sitting in the passenger seats of Corsas beside teenagers who had learned the test route by rote I would welcome a Triumph Toledo, or a 20 year old Polo with furry seat covers. I'm sure you know that 'smoke-free' actually refers to the inside of the car. As long as the car isn't a biohazard or deathtrap it should be fine.

Yes I am doing the teaching myself, I did it about 20 years ago so just back into the habit straight away. 

As a career it was great at the time but not enough to actually make a living at unless you live in the car.

 

The only bit that has changed is the test structure so I will have to do a bit of investigation on that.

both the polo ond Toledorumph surpass the Corsa B I did my test in..

 

but my daily then was a mk1 Seat Toledo 1.8i 90bhp and 175/65/13s made for funtimes!

 

sure the car will be spot on John-already looks about 300x as cool as anything else anyone will be driving.

Do you not need an extra little rear view mirror? I'm sure someone I was at college with did her test in a mk2 fiesta and needed a mirror.

Rover 45/400 seats fit with only a small amount of fabrication. You could also get a set of later Tolly or even Dolly ones withthe headrests, Dolly seats are a little wider but the extra holes are already there in the floor pan.

I did my test in my mums Ford Orion, though it was 20 years ago now so still a fairly modern car back then (damn when did I get old enough to describe things as being 20 years ago?)

 

I had one of those extra mirrors too, more because my dad insisted on it when teaching me, I don't know whether it was a requirement of the examiner, but it'd probably be wise either way

 

Bold move turning up for the test in a Toledo, I would like to see the examiners face - they weren't exactly known for their sense of humour! But they should be examining the driving and not the car so there is no technical reason why not.

Yep was aware of the health and safety for the examiners already, I have something lined up at a push.

Any other pointers?

Have a quick chat with the head examiner at the test centre. It may smooth the path to using it, rather than just rocking up when the time comes.

This might be shite but I thought wheel shuffling was a hangover from the days when most cars weren't fitted with power steering. You can manouevre a modern car with your pinky.

Just heard that my XJ-S now has shiny new brakes that don't stick, non-bent radius arms, a clunk-free exhaust and a fresh new MOT - and on budget.  

 

The driving experience has been transformed, apparently.  Just a couple of bushes on the front to cure a mild clonk and a leftist militant tendency then we're good to go.  

 

On track to collect on Saturday.  Very, very excited.

As said no good, also not my cup of tea, would work really well with furry seat covers though!

Basically your hands should stay on their side of the wheel, 'shuffling' is actually dead easy in a non PAS car.

Got a rare night off without kids as neighbour is babysitting so taken Mrs Seal on a 'date night' to the local pub. Obviously travelling in style (the Puglet needed fuel and as the petrol station is next door to the pub.......). I was travelling for work today, my first hire car of the day was an Astra like it is 99.9% of the time and as usual in 'SRi' trim which used to mean something with regards to performance but now a days just means big alloys. However when I went to pick up my second car it was a new Megane DCi. I was surprised by two things, firstly it was quite quick and secondly it wasn't a bad car to drive. The interior was nice as well, I couldn't try the built in sat nav as the rental agency insist on disabling these so they can charge you for a tomtom unit. I wouldn't buy one for obvious reasons but if I was ever after a new lease car it would be on the list

I have finally had chance to start work on my Capri, it's at my mums and she works nights so it's difficult to do anything on it due to not wanting to wake her up making noise

 

Today's job has been to replace the damaged arb and mounts, engine cradle and damaged steering rack from when I had a bump

 

 

The only pain is lugging tools around there
