Finally convinced the mother to use the sport mode on the Bini's autobox.

It's loads more fun, can even feel the difference as a passenger. Normal mode strangles it on country roads, overtaking etc.

I'm registering as a waste carrier for the first time ever (naughty), if you go through the standard form SEPA wants to charge you something like £190 but buried in their list of exemptions is waste vegetable oil as fuel. JUSTICE!

10 days car insurance on swift -£25!

Did the get a full policy and then cancel in cooling off period.

Are there other advantages? I'd quite like to go around saying "yeah I'm a waste carrier".

You can get a laminated card for £5 extra, flash it at the ladies and they'll "carry" your "waste".

You can buy Cat B stuff at Copart. If you're prepared to pay more than the Eastern Europeans.

Posted

You can legitimately advertise as "man and van, gardens cleared" etc, and then just lob it in a layby after dark.

Although I think you can do that second part without the laminated card.

I started my class 1 training yesterday, it was only the basics, a-roads etc.

It went well, however today we're going through tiny villages...

Did a back to back drive with starlet and swift.

Swift is a bit baggy, needs a fair bit doing to it but seats are comfy, steering is light, turns on a 6 pence and has a spoiler. Also the gearing means it is better at motorways and more economical. The engine is good off the line but runs out of puff before limited.

The starlet is just all round ace. Taut and like an eager puppy even with twice miles of the swift. Turns the grin factor up to 11. A trip to the shops is mega enjoyable, you can also throw it into corners with fun. The 16v means it flies to the redline. The downsides are gearing, the fact that it is noticeably more noisy on motorway and worse on mpg. If we could fit a 6th gear there would be only one winner.

The grin, well the fact that both cars making driving fun again, and I own both. A world away from the plodding dependable xantia.

Went to a car club do last night as it was time to pay and they had a guest speaker............I generally avoid these as they get some right old wind bags and snake oil sellers

Guest speaker was Brian Crichton who was involved in Classic Car Weekly and is a general car bike nut with some great stories. Potentially boring night turned out great

As you may know since my C4 VTS was written off I've been commuting (40 miles each way) mostly in the XM. I must have accidentally pressed a button on the stereo as I was happily listening to an old cassette tape when Kent Radio Travel news interrupted the Happy Mondays. I didn't even know such sophistication existed in 1995, but what made me laugh was the Click, buzz, Whir, Clonk and then the radio announcement followed by  Click, buzz, Whir, Clonk again as the tape resumed!

Watching the local am dram production in my village hall tonight made me realise how well researched "hot fuzz" was

There is a local coach I see in the mornings and the paint scheme reminds me of the autoshite colours
