Rightnider Posted October 10, 2023 Posted October 10, 2023 A grin and a grump. In Copenhagen, just having seen Larkin Poe. Was supposed to have Rightnider Sr. with me, but his knee wasn’t up to it. Mrs. Rightnider came along and she liked it. myglaren 1

And when I put the reg of my DS (2RKE) in the parking ticket machine at Bedgebury Pinetum it came back with "Not an option". Well I'm very sorry but that is the only option my car has. 🤪 Joey spud, adw1977, rainagain and 4 others 3 4

I'd driven in , stayed 3 hours , forgot to pay , left, went back an hour later and paid Got a ticket ( invoice) , appealed because I had a ticket for that reg , purchased that day that read valid 00:00- 23:59 They rejected my appeal stating that ticket didn't cover the previous period , offered advice ( veiled threat) that if I decided to appeal to POPLA I'd lose the £60 fine and be charged £100 if I lost the appeal I ignored their veiled threat and appealed to popla, as soon as I did they removed their evidence and dropped the case because they knew if it went to court they'd lose. They're bullies , they scare people into paying. Am still ignoring a bunch of private parking fines. One from overstaying at the hospital by a few minutes as my mate id picked up had a hypo that needed sorting is the only one still sending threatening letters. Has bounced around a few different firms was one a week not long back they all go in the bin. Wack and Shite Ron 2

DavieW Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 Grin and Grumpy in one post. Grin - This morning I saw a rusty white Transit towing a dodgy looking caravan with no number plate (you know who I mean) come off the Keir roundabout near Stirling and accelerate (!) up the A9. I was just about at the rear corner of the caravan overtaking it when a huge plume of blue smoke came out of the Transit, a couple of lurches before the hazards came on and it pulled onto the grass verge. Grump - Someones Transit near Stirling might lose their turbo tonight to a caravan dweller.
richardmorris Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 Had the day off today and decided to go for a walk this morning. Esher, Claremont, mole valley ( no valves ) and homewood( a modernist 1930s floating glass and concrete brick) which is in things like a clockwork orange , marple and endeavour. anyway, Claremont must be one of the last NT carparks not to have pay and display. Bit of a grump as I like scanning the card to get free parking. Not much use as it’s miles from anywhere in Esher but still… DSdriver 1

somewhatfoolish Posted October 15, 2023 Posted October 15, 2023 https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-023-03212-1 Quote A 21-year-old computer-science student has won a global contest to read the first text inside a carbonized scroll from the ancient Roman city of Herculaneum, which had been unreadable since a volcanic eruption in AD 79 — the same one that buried nearby Pompeii. The breakthrough could open up hundreds of texts from the only intact library to survive from Greco-Roman antiquity. Luke Farritor, who is at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, developed a machine-learning algorithm that has detected Greek letters on several lines of the rolled-up papyrus, including πορϕυρας (porphyras), meaning ‘purple’. Farritor used subtle, small-scale differences in surface texture to train his neural network and highlight the ink. Back_For_More, richardmorris, GrumpiusMaximus and 1 other 4
