What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Local council tried to replace Stasi-monitored 1hour free parking in the main town in the borough with RingGo. Town mainly frequented by giffers and people that aren't tech savvy. Probably don't even have smartphones.

With it they halved the time you could park for free, down to half an hour, and charged for more. App needed for free parking.

They might as well have cut the town's air supply off as it was universally rejected, kicked all the local business in the teeth and people just stopped going there, etc etc. So much confusion the council keep cancelling parking fines.

Less than 2 months in and the system has been suspended and is under review.

If it ain't broke...

They must read the high st is dying like we do yet they do nothing to help it out , Widnes has a lot of free parking, Warrington has virtually none, you can park for 2 hours free at cockhedge but it's parking eye monitored so in reality it's about 100 minutes to allow for parking, loading any shopping and getting out , it's a 10 minute walk to town so 80 minutes , if you're 5 minutes over it's £3 as you pay for the free hours so you start clock watching once you've been in a few shops

Remember when town centres were full of guys that owned the stock and had their name over the door , that's what we need , that's what it's still like in Europe, in Barcelona I couldn't believe how many shops were tucked down all the side streets

There's a J reg 309 parked outside my house.

First thing my other half said as we got home 'oh for fuck sake what have you bought now?'

It isn't mine!

I'd put a note on the windscreen....

I might do. It's a bit rough up close and the wiring looks to have been mucked about with...but it looks quite mean in black.

Shame and pleased. I also read your comments about your loss and how it may affect your work for a while.

I don't have the right words for a forum. I think you know that you have thoughts of support from all of us.

I don't want folk under the impression that I'm massively traumatised. I'm not. Just a bit stunned, and slightly terrified about the male suicide rate.

It's still there. There isn't any keys in it and none have been posted through the door....

Did the person who left you a car before, when they bought one of yours, ever collect it? Perhaps he's left you another

No, but the council dragged it away a few days ago.

I did wonder about the 309 being some sick* joke but I'm sure I saw it being driven about a few days ago

We all die, we all pay tax, the Earth goes around the Sun and MyHermes are utter shit. These are the certainties of life.

And there was me thinking it was taxes and nurses.

Another R8 owner has given me free pickings on some parts from his scrapper tomorrow, so am hoping to get some much needed and hard to find parts for the 214, as it continues its rocky road to recovery. Daytrip to West Yorkshire beckons.

Top tip folks, on your first weekend in a new town don't go to see a band in the pub then forget how to get home.

This advice was brought to you with the assistance of my sponsor GPS and google maps! Only half an hours walk remaining.

Ha ha ha. Thanks for that. A smile on an otherwise crummy day. :D

It makes you wonder how much this stuff leaves China at , £3 of that £17 is vat so they're retailing at £14 + vat

1/2 the tool bits in the packet would be that if they had dremel written on them

Double grin because whatever was clogging up the carburetor on the pressure washer and making it hunt really badly appears to have cleared.

That looks more like a cowshed in Pembrokeshire.

Agreed, it doesn't look very Puerto Rican, plus the Roller is RHD.

EDIT: Also, that looks like an old British tax disc in the window.

Allegro were great cars, where BL went wrong was in the styling department. Look at the coke bottle cortina, 50s tech underneath but looked the part. And which would you want to see your dad turn up in in the 70s? The design department of BL was what killed it off in the end.
