What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Coming down to the kitchen this morning, to discover Mrs TW must have been reading my practical classics magazine. She WILL like quirky old cars. Still open on the worktop, next to her hairdryer!

To be fair, I used to have women's hair before meeting Mrs TW, and my surname is George (obviously I retain my screen name of Wogan for public duties). Maybe she was visualising what could have been. At least his surname isn't Jizzum or whatever one of the other writers in PC used to be called.

As reported in the grump thread, I went to the tip this morning. Went with my mum as she's got stuff she wanted rid of so we went in my Granada, nice big estate and her Focus wasn't big enough to fit all the rubbish in.

First thing she said when she got into it was ask if it's safe to drive! Yeah ok it looks rough as hell but it's perfectly fine. I think she was a bit embaressed being in it!

Anyway, we get most of the way there and she says 'hmm, this thing lovely to be in!, it's so smooth and comfortable!' She then said it's nicer to be in than her modern Focus.

I'm not surprised of course but it just made me laugh!

Not bad for a 31 year old 200k mile old car is it, if it can beat a modern. And, it's bigger than my dad's modern Mondeo estate too. One of the things I took to the tip was the rotten old bonnet off the Granada, it wouldn't fit in the Focus or the Mondeo, it did easily fit into the Granny. Who needs moderns!?

Apparently it's on Zakynthos.

Some friends visited today and gave us some chocolates. We were all amused to see one of them was called "Love Milk"

Just been round the block on my 'boot scooter' with Chester. He freaked of course. After three years of inactivity I think it is fair to say,, the battery is fooked! Full charge this afternoon resulted in a about three hundred yards before I thought it expedient to turn round and 'run for home' as it's downhill that way.

Anyone want a mobility scooter that splits up and fits in the boot of a car easily? Good condition and the dirt, dust and cobwebs I will throw in for free :)

The Volvo now has a years MOT  :-) .I left it with the garage where it failed on an ineffective handbrake & was expecting a bill of £200-£250 after they had replaced shoes & cables etc.I got a call yesterday saying it was all done & the cost was £86 including the MOT  :-D .They'd taken it all apart, cleaned it up & re-assembled it & it actually works now.Very happy.

Finding out that a Rover 100 cabriolet exists.... Never seen one before but so much want now!

A fleet of them were available as hire cars in Jersey once.  In fact, a quick search shows one 'Heritage Rover 114 Cabriolet' is still available (which is grin worthy in itself!).

I put a load of O series engines and bits on ebay and had a moan about being pestered on every last detail. Anyway he didn't buy the stuff but a nice bloke did and drove 140 odd miles in an E reg ex GPO sherpa (prima engine) to fetch them. He gave me 60 quid, 3 more than they went for. The van had all the proper ex-GPO features like fallen off rear door handle which he produced from behind the seat in order to gain access to the back.

Will todays delivery vans still be able to make such a journey in 30 years time? I think not.

The peugeot thing our postie uses sounds like it wont make  it out of our estate in the next 30 minutes, let alone 30 years!

The properly battered 56 plate combo the one by my mums uses soldiers on though, is very pogweasel now though

Cheered myself up by searching Youtube for Austin Princess videos.  Found a three year old video recorded from the dashboard of an Austin A55.  You've probably seen this before, and it's not very exciting, but it made me feel better.
