Well, lost my job today, not surprised really, my manager was a pretty moody sort who seemed to quietly reject some things that by law I'm entitled to do. I wont go into details about it as I can't be arsed to spark another bloody debate. Never mind, not bothered, I was told by the last place that some of the people there were rather "cliquey" and acted like they had a chip on thier shoulders. My work was good, no complaints. There loss, there are better jobs and nicer places to work.

In much better news I finally got the Merc taxed, 14 days after I was supposed to do so. I'll be interested to see if the DVLA will crash my door through for monies owed.

I've bought a set of spheres for it, plus a wing in the right colour, some spare yet-to-be cut keys, the right handbook + wallet for it but I'm still having trouble finding floor mats that aren't stupidly priced. I've got some Merc ones but they for a later car, front fit Ok-ish but the rear ones are too small.

Merc is booked in for MOT and possibly MOT work, I know it needs those spheres fitting, some brake pads and possibky some welding done.

The tax when I did it just went back the two weeks I was late so I "lost" two weeks but no fine etc.

Weighed the unfixable Multipla in today, after feltching it for spares for the "new" Multipla. I had removed the engine and box so just A framed it the 3 miles or so the the scrapyard with the shafts dangling out of it- CLONK  CLONK CLONK e.t.c.

Someone wanted the rear subframe so I unbolted it and got a forklift to lift the body off. I really didn't want to get the XM dirty inside so I just chained the A frame to it and towed it back. Surprised the whole escapade went so well TBH!

I'm just glad to have the drive back, although i'm now knee deep in Multipla parts!

After all the aggro, I'm surprised you weighed it in without some sort of axe-based damage to panels and windows.

Got wiper blades and oil filter for the vectra from my local factor.

The chap who owns it even fitted the blades for me.

Lazy.

Lol, no those aren't mine! I have a vegoil website but have had ZERO success with it!

I suppose I should have tortured it a bit but I've sunk so much time and effort into the thing that I couldn't bring myself to deliberately damage it. Odd way to feel seeing as it's now cube shaped.

The Avantime left today. I ended up accepeting £2477 for it so I've made about £5 profit on if if you disregard the amount of man hours that went into changing the cam belt.

I think the fact that you've managed to make any profit at all on a modern Renault is cause for celebration.

Phil, you've owned a V6 Avantime without losing money on it, not many people can say that.

Sounds like you have a decent local factors, my local place sell most stuff but they are moody bastards at the best of times. I went in this morning to get some bits, your lucky if they even give you a carrier bag for your purchases. As for fitting wiper blades, I think I would faint if they ever offered to do that.

Grow some tits. I bet you will get them fitted then.

Im still mega tempted by this early 75 Connie (Oh Yes, a launch car) but its on ebay and the seller seems.....well just too much like someone that sells stuff on ebay.

I asked if it uses much oil or water, and he responded 'change oil every 4 months, cos ex squaddie lol'

I mean, WFT!?

The photo's are all rather wank and its 100 miles away, but apparently has loads of SH and has been well looked after. I think I will bid but the general emong'ness puts me off bidding too much.

I had my 190e 'as good as sold' - a lad from Kildare was prepared to brave the shitty weather tomorrow n come down look at it n pay for it, as long as it was 'as discibed' - the feckin thing developed a 'kangarooing' effect in 2nd n 3rd gear over the last 3 days; basically feels like its chucking n about to die pulling off from junctions n it all chucks about the place, spasmodically, goin up the hills.. this only happens when its up to running temp. ... feels like its fuel starvation, but every part of the fuel system has been replaced with new/cleaned etc well before this....gave the day trying to fix it - unplugging EHA, steeper motors etc to try to locate the shagged injection component - still the problem persists... I even chucked in a new set of plugs into, thinking it might be that...

Long story short I had to text the potential buyer n tell him, he might be rightly disappointed by it tomorrow n it was up to him, if he wanted to sack off the whole idea; he said he'd ring Wednesday, as he likes the car/paint/interior etc etc, n he loves 190E's - having had one before...

Im rightly cheezed off the car at the moment n its latest 'toys out of the pram' running incident n just want shot of it now!!!

Check the resistance of each ht lead with a multimeter. The one different by miles will be fooked. Done loads on 190's.

*i may be wrong, but resistance check is free*

The horror stories about Volvo handbrakes shitting themselves are all true. Other than a clonk the other day when I reversed, there was no sign this was going. No noises, and the handbrake held.

There was no friction material on either shoe on the drivers side. None. There was about an inch of the stuff rattling around inside the disc, which must have caused the clonk when it came off.

Unplug the lambda sensor (under passenger side footwell mat perhaps) and see if that makes a difference. If lambda sensor is borked it will drastically affect the fuel air mixture settings and will not be doing your delicate jetronic fuel injection system any good. This sensor only affects mixture once engine is at operating temp, when engine is running 'closed loop' I.e. readings from lambda sensor are telling fuel distributor how to set fuel air mixture. Either that or may be the potentiometer on the front of the fuel distributor.

Punto update.

This departed yesterday to live a life ambling round the Peak District...

It appeared that the reason it became a 'spares & repairs' motor was because there was an airlock. I set to with a coolant system pressure tester. This meant I could pressurise and bleed the system while it was still cold. I did that and then had a go with a leak down test with my compressor. I borrowed my mates 'snap-on' version...this had mixed results. I got it to work but I couldn't get the stroke right on each cylinder, which meant all the air I put in blew out through the inlet...at least it wasn't bubbling out the expansion tank. So anyway after all this I got hot air blowing through the matrix and cold air when I switched it back over and hot air again, ad infinitum. Just to be on the safe side, I then borrowed a 'block checker' kit which is a blue liquid you put in a holder wedged in the expansion tank. If the liquid turns yellow you have CO2 in the coolant and thus a borked head gasket. I did the test twice and the fluid stayed blue :-D :-D

I then ran it to Leeds a couple of times during last week and it was bob on.

Unfortunately somebody in the past has jacked it up on the rear of the sills and they are not healthy. When the van was at the paintshop I took the opportunity of an empty garage to have a crack at it. I jacked it up and cut out the rotten section on the passenger side and fabricated new metal, section by section and welded it all in. The drivers side is the same but you have to remove the petrol tank and it was three quarters full, so I didn't really have the time. I've told my sister to bring it back in the spring and better weather, then leave it with me for a few days and I'll rebuild it all...

I put a set of genuine wheel trims and a new aerial from Partsworld on it. Got a fusebox lid and a user manual from the scrappy. I serviced it and that was about all I had to do, other than the MIG tickling...

My bloody Discovery seems to take gleeful pleasure in finding new and inventive ways of pissing out its coolant.

Two years ago it blew its head gasket. Then about a year ago it needed a new radiator, which developed into its own mini epic as the supplier sent me a defective item & I was taking the Disco to Austria two days later - new one arrived just in time. This was followed this summer by a leaking P gasket, which took ages to diagnose. Last week its water pump failed. Now it's shat its radiator again.

Bastard.

Went to try and find the leak in the civic but struggled to get the scuttle off. Bottom of windscreen is delaminating so have lobbed some captain tolleys round it because i think that might be the cause.

Had a look at light bulb connectors to find drivers side one mega melted. Replaced them with ceramic one ordered online. Will do the passenger one tomorrow.

Drove 260 miles in the Shaguar yesterday down to the NEC and back. I hooned it whenever I could and was stuck in traffic because of a chemical spill for 45 mins on the Bradford ring road and the car still managed just over 26mpg. This is absolutely terrible news because it means I must be totally shit at maths.

When I got up this morning though I noticed that there was something wrong with the car:

Thankfully it was just a clip to reattach it but I wonder how long it was like that? Maybe this is the aerodynamic holy grail that improves fuel efficiency that could save the planet?

Or maybe I am just shit at maths.

Had a play with the Saab 900 convertible yesterday.

Refitted the engine cover, WD40 on the bonnet release cable and throttle linkage has made both more free. Swept and hoovered out the glass. Decided to have a look at removing the remains of the ready screen. The bottom and side clips came off with a (now very bent) screwdriver, undid two screws holding the looking on and eased the seal out of the remaining clips.

Fitting will not the reverse of removal as you can't access those clips, will need to have a play when a trip replacement screen is found. There is one on eBay worth ends this week so fingers crossed.

Then swept and hoovered the interior again as it was covered in glass again.

Also our local welder came round and finished welding the clove brown metro, took a while as Mrs the princess kept finding more holes with her trusty screwdriver.

Anyone familiar with the exit slip at J24a M1?

I very long but constant diameter curve. It's flagged at 40mph for good reason, it's bloody tight.

Possible at 50mph & to prove a point I've done it at 60 in the 944.

Saturday, I had the dog in the back so stuck to 40mph & three brand new big engined Mercedes passed me,

I have never seen such shit driving in my life, they were all over the bloody road.

Trying to drive fast because they were in fast cars - WANKERS.

Just back from Aisne in Picardy northern France. Here are some suitable snaps...

XM, Panhard (I think it used to be anyway), acadiane, visa 11re, overlooking Revin, waiting for the restaurant to open and looking a little dirty. 819miles in five days at about 29mpg - aircon on all the time mostly demisting windows.
