A quick update on shite related shenanigans over the past few weeks.

The 2cv was pressed into commuting duties and got absolutely drenched in very wet weather, rain goes up the screen, under the hood and sprays me in the face. Not sure if can be mitigated against it it’s just a feature of the 2CV. It’s been cleaned and is now garaged, maybe until spring.

The P4 has been off the road while the master cylinder was sorted out. A recon one was sourced from a club member which featured a nice stainless sleeve inside the cylinder.  After fitting and bleeding the brakes feel marvellous and can even lock up on a dry road on hard braking. Great for such an old car I think. Some wrecked bushes in the front suspension were also replaced meaning it goes where I point it now. To celebrate I went on a quick 10 mile jaunt locally. It’s great fun to drive and it feels like I could drive it anywhere.

It looks like the mighty roffle E220CDI is condemned, it needs an injector and the bolt securing it has stretched and damaged the thread - having it fixed at my friendly garage is approaching 4-figures and then there's the ongoing gearbox issue, and now an ABS fault.  I don't really need a car any longer (my wife's does everything and I WFH), but I'm not comfortable with the thought of not having my own - so am monitoring the shite-for-sale page hourly (I can't be arsed to do battle with the public on ebay, etc).  PM me if you have anything interesting you'd like to move on, budget variable.

I had a broken injector bolt retapped on my PT cruiser at a cost of £80 odd. It had the 2.2 Merc diesel lump in it.

No, it really shouldn't do that...

Agreed, drove 2CVs and Dyanes for millions* of miles  and never a drop through the screen to roof join.

Interesting. The old hood was the same. I wonder what I’m doing wrong?

Have you got the rubber seal on the lip the right way around?

Sad news.  Am sure those injectors were supposed to be warranted but I doubt that extends to a new engine!

Rubber seal? I’m not sure it’s even got one.

But would you let me in your house though?

That could well be the problem

The mini drove for the first time since 1992 today, out of the garage, turned it around and back in, ok, it has no front wings/interior etc etc. But it starts, has 60lbs of oil pressure at tick over and moves, selects gears and has brakes. I’m counting that as a win anyway.

Bingo! That’s why it lets water in.

Yours is missing the rubber seal that the aluminium strip holds in place.

Went to Llandudno fireworks, it was crazy busy, so the only parking was miles away, not ideal with two small children…

So instead we just drove up and down the front where the fireworks were best viewed from with the roof down… the kids loved it!

Off tomorrow for a week working in Aberdeen.

@Saabnut @Supernaut and any other shiters up that way, anything worth doing of an evening while I'm up there? Apart from drinking heavily 🙈

Watch the cars rust while drinking lightly?

Erm... hmmm.

Stare at the clock until it's time to leave?

I live a good few miles outside Aberdeen, and try to stay away as much as possible these days. Best thing that happened to the place is the bypass. Means I can just go straight to Dundee instead.

The only reason I go in to Aberdeen these days is to visit the hospital :-) But if you get bored you are welcome to visit here, look at chod and drink (tea obvs)
