Don't think mine has a lights on sounder - if it does it hasn't worked in the whole time I've had the car! I guess I'll start by checking for voltage at the stalk switch and go from there.

Edit - just seen your comment on FB @mat_the_cat - cross-platform cross-posting confusion!

I’m moving some cars from Exeter to Peterborough today.

Just north of Taunton on the M5, in the distance I see an older BMW X3 or X5 pull onto the hard shoulder.

Driver immediately jumps out and uses both hands to give the door a proper good slam.  He then proceeded to boot the drivers door in before walking a few paces along the hard shoulder away from the car.

As I pass, I see in my mirror he has walked back and starts to kick seven kinds of shite out of the front bumper, John Cleese style.

I was laughing my head off at the time but now feel a bit bad in case the car is a heap of shite and it’s giving him endless grief when he might be struggling with his bills or whatever.

The 145 has been missing it’s battery tray ever since I got it. I was hoping to obtain one but they’re pretty hard to come by so battery has been sitting precariously on the inner wing for the last few years. Today I tried to knock something up to fix the situation.

The in-laws dropped off a scrap garden burner thing for me to get shot of, the type you get from B&M and only seem to last 6 months before they rust away.  This provided some bits on angle iron which were chopped up and crudely bolted to the battery tray mounts and a Mk1 Corsa battery tray I had kicking about. The end result doesn’t look too bad and does a good job of keeping the battery secure! I might replace it all with the correct battery tray should I happen to spot one for sale, then again I might just leave it. The battery covers everything up anyway.

The 145

Every time without fail I think "ooh an Alfa" followed by disappointment "oh no a Volvo" and then guilt and interest "I bet that's quite nice actually" 😂

Is the anti roll bar sitting centrally?

(Looks to me like the subframe is fouling the anti roll bar, correct?)

Is it lowered?

24 MR2s turned up for us yesterday at Beaulieu.
Lovely day out as always. Next big one is Carfest next month (I still can't believe anyone invited us to this)

Eldest daughter complained of a sloshing noise emanating from the OSR door of the Laguna. The rubber bung on the bottom was removed and approx 10 litres of water poured out onto the road. The NSR door did the same a few months ago! It was quite amusing to watch.

Muvva_Stanky had a Skoda Rapid (new one, booo) that did that. Was grumbling about a sloshing noise and was adamant it was the fuel tank (a la early Fronterrors) but a bit of poking of the door bungs released a biblical torrent from one of the front doors. It needed draining every so often after that, but never got as bad as the first time - which was presumably 3 years of accumulated rain.

My gran complained about a knock from the car on acceleration and braking (a Morris 1100 in a sort of tangerine orange). She worked at the garage, and so the mechanics had a look. Turned out to be a torch under the drivers seat.

I’m guessing they weren’t staying at Travelodge.

That is quite some spot, the new revuelto plug-in hybrid, I didn't realise there were even any in the UK yet. Not quite as good looking as the outgoing Aventador but it looks alright. I was thinking one would be a good replacement for my Citroen LNA!

Pulled in to look at some data on a laptop, it's a prototype - probably been at Millbrook or MIRA but the car has been revealed a while back so it's not super-exciting car spotting...

Just spoke with the garage, cost will be £850. I'm not sending her to the bridge. I love driving her and right now where I am in life she fits perfectly. I have left her at the garage to be fixed.

To do everything? Or just the failures?

Just the failures. But that does include an intermediate service and the cost of the MOT. The sill has a hole the size of a fist in it and the ball joint and brake pipe are very knackered.

Do you have any pics of the light blue/silver MK1's there at all? Trying to see if my mates old one which got restored after he sold it is one of the ones in attendance so I can show him some piccies.

I happen to know the owner of that one quite well

If you want to see what's available generally though, we had about 100 Mk1s turn up to National Day at Hatton Park in June.
All 4 hundred and something cars are pictured on the Facebook group (you might need to join, but there's no pre-req - it's a free to join FB group, it's just the club that costs money)

Nice one!

Those failures would all be stuff you'd worry about sending it's random replacement in for its first test in your hands for anyway 🤷 Once their done their not going to need doing again*

Plus - £50 for the test and £130 for the service and the cost doesn't look as huge. Probably a fair bit of labour and swearing at rust you don't have to bother with too!

That's exactly how I am looking at it. Even 5 hours labour will be about £300.

Definitely worth getting it done if it's a car you enjoy owning/driving. £850 wouldn't buy you a lot of car if you were to replace it, and that £850 car might need the same spent on it anyway. Better the devil you know, etc.
