Went up Glastonbury Tor today. Always seen it and thought about doing it. However I heard that it's a bit of a hard trek to get up there.

No idea why as it was a piece of piss. Did it in 8mins at Mrs SiC pace, according to my watch. Probably could have jogged up in half the time as it's really not that hard work.

Some good views at the top though.

Anyway car related.

Saw this on the street. No idea what it was except it had a Cadillac badge and looked genuine Yank. Heap of shit if I say so.

Then this behind us (might need to zoom in)

Looks cool as fuck from the front. Never think the rear on them is much cop though.

I connected up the indicators on the 145 today, the wiring was a bit of a mess with scotch locks and connectors holding things together so a couple of parts were rewired. With everything connected up it all worked! The flash is a little slow but the relay makes a satisfying clonk from inside the car.

I also investigated the non working horns and found the horns themselves to be dead and no voltage at the connectors when the horn ring was pushed. Both of the knackered horns were removed and a Ford Fusion horn was wired in and bolted up. I’ll have to investigate why there’s no voltage present but hopefully it’ll be something like a dirty fuse holder or something.

Finally a primer bulb was added to the fuel line, the fuel leaks back to the tank when it’s been sat for a few days and it’s a pain sucking it back up to the carburettor to get the engine to run. The same Fusion that donated it’s horn also gave up it’s primer bulb and I can now get instantaneous ignition with zero fannying about. We’ll see if the primer bulb will be a permanent addition, a non return valve of some sort is possibly a better idea but the primer bulb was kicking about in a box of parts and does the trick, providing the petrol doesn’t melt it or something. .

Not got a great deal done this weekend, but I did get a replacement driver's door handle and mirror fitted to the Renault 4 yesterday.  I'd ordered them from Autodoc, first time buying from them and having heard all the stories I wasn't sure what to expect, but the parcel turned up on time and the parts fit.  They are aftermarket and the quality is appalling, but then it was 20 quid delivered for the two so I can't complain.  Definitely made the car look a bit less of a wreck though.

Before:

After:

I took it for a 60mph blat up the road and the mirror held its position fine, so I'm happy enough with that for what it cost.

This afternoon I went up to welding mate's to do a bit more on the Renault 6.  I drove up there in the Volvo, which once again ran absolutely spot on and got past a few Sunday drivers on the coast road with surprising alacrity for a 51-year-old saloon.  It has developed a noticeable knock from the offside front over bumps.  I can't feel it through the steering but then that doesn't necessarily mean anything because you can't feel much through the steering on the 164 anyway.  I  had a look when I got home and couldn't see anything obvious other than possibly the shock absorber lower bush which looks a bit knackered.  Nothing's about to fall off though that I could see, which is the main thing.

Didn't get as far with the Renault 6 as I'd been hoping - partly because welding mate had to go out but primarily because what I thought were two smallish holes on the nearside turned into one mahoosive hole once I started poking - I ended up cutting out quite a section of floor with the grinder, and the plates I'd made up turned out to be useless, although fortunately I had enough steel left to make up plates the right size for the new holes...  The offside is pretty much done though barring a lip on the edge of the inner arch which will need the wheel to come off.  I'm hoping the weather stays decent so we can get more done next weekend as the rest of July is rather busy, with Shitefest, my parents' 50th wedding anniversary and FOTU on consecutive weekends.

I'm too late to help(unless maybe you could return the adaptor for a refund? IDK) but you may find that the charger is inverter-based(many battery chargers and power supplies are these days) and will take anything between 110 and 240v, it will say so on the data label; if so just cut the US plug off and fit a 13A plug.

That looks identical to the one I was offered by a lady local to me last winter. Down to the gold grill, the wheels and incorrectly spaced numberplate.

Alas, even with my poor taste in cars I wasn’t in a position/desire for purchase. Saw it had gone from her house a few months ago. I’d be surprised if it wasn’t the same one. Can’t be many like that!

That's the high mileage v70 mot, just needed a top mount and handbrake seeing to plus other piffle.

There's a warning light, need to find out what it's trying to tell me, I suspect an abs sensor.

740 has been daily faithful car in the mean time, all is good!

Agreed, most switch mode power supplies these days are multi voltage. More expensive stuff usually has different plugs you can put on them.

Sorted the headlining in the roffle Rover yesterday using new material.  Not perfect but a big improvement on the saggy original that kept tickling my head!

After the Saab passed its MOT without cost, I decided to spend the money I'd already allocated to it anyway.

On Tuesday it got new subframe bushes at the local Saab specialist.

Friday, I picked up a second hand cat-back exhaust, and tied it in with a visit to Karl @ Noobtune for a remap. Having pondered it for a while, I was debating a postal service option, but I had the opportunity to meet up and very glad I did to be honest. Within seconds, he was able to point out a couple of collapsed vacuum hoses and a broken breather valve that I'd not spotted, so I sat on ebay ordering replacements whilst Karl did his magic with the laptop. The remap is superb, and will be even better once I've replaced the relevant hoses.

Then Saturday I had a remarkably successful  few hours exhaust fitting - it almost never goes this well.

Old vs 'new'

£20 well spent - cheers eBay!

Nice, where did you get the material? Did you recover the existing backing board? Did you use paint-on or spray adhesive? I'd like to do the the headlining in my Mercedes which is going droopy and is a bit marked so looking for recommendations.

Thanks.  I used Martrim and recovered the original fibreglass board once I'd scraped the manky old foam off.  I used high temperature spray adhesive also from Martrim.  Think I'd shop around more next time though because their postage and packing was quite pricey.

Thanks, they were on my radar - noted re price though. I'll have a sniff around because I need to do the pillar covers too so it looks like a bit of a chore of a job all things considered. How much of the interior did you need to remove to do it?

More 145 fettling! The rear wiper has been stuck at 12 o’clock since I’ve had it and despite there being a feed nothing was working. The wiper motor in these is a bit of a work of art and seems way over engineered for what it is. The cover pops off and reveals all the inner workings. The whole lot appeared to be full of wax or grease, possibly rust proofer which has somehow leaked inside. With the motor removed and cleaned up I could get it to run and  “park” no problem. Refitted back into the tailgate everything was going well until it started to blow fuses. I’ve no idea why this could be but I soon ran out of fuses and packed up for the day.  At least the wiper is now parked where it’s meant to be instead of sticking up.

Something which I’d never noticed before, the tailgate catch isn’t in the centre of the bottom of the tailgate, it’s slightly over to one side. I’m not sure why this is but I’m sure Volvo had their reasons!

Could the rest of the wiper mechanism be cummed up wth old grease? All that stuff around the motor's commutator and brushes looks like dielectric grease - a nice touch on something rebuildable like that.

I did think that initially but it’s all nice and free.  The motor would barely run at all it was so full of… whatever it is.

Wowzers. That's quite something. Must be a transformer power supply after all.

I've had a charming email from a young lady, basically after some Little Outlaw.

Quote

I am Minny. I feel so excited when I'm being shagged by a guy that knows what he's doing. I will like to be with a man that would want to visit me numerous times for sweet banging..

Where do I start?
Some soundbites she needs to know..... "Small nail, big hammer". "Arsehole like a broken catflap" "At my age, if I sleep with someone, it's normally that. Sleep. "

Still, can pass on deets if anyone's interested. 😀

Day 1 today of "Staycation". Before you all get grumpy and pedantic, as I would, it is a genuine staycation.
Sorry, but going to Skegness and staying in a caravan is not a staycation. It's a holiday.

We moved here from Buckinghamshire towards the end of last year and what with it being Winter, then being busy and then both of us having a miserable cold for the whole of May, we decided to check out our local area.

Those of you who know the area, I popped into Lymington on Saturday - nothing to write home about as it was market day.

Today, however, we went to Lyndhurst. This very much reminded us that we live on the "edge" of the New Forest. Blimey, some of the prices for tourist tat. 40 teabags for £11.50? What's in them? Gold? Some lovely little sculptures made of some kind of tough plastic. Just £160 each.

What I did see, however, and didn't sadly get a picture, was a beautiful Alfa Giulietta GT (a proper one, not the one with the  plastic interior).

There is also a Ferrari dealer right in the middle of town with about 40 cars. I have to say, I'm not the biggest fan of the newer ones, so it was rather lost on me. My wife has made it clear that if we ever win the Euromillions, we're getting a Lambo. She really doesn't like Ferraris.
