It's a n/a diesel, so stately performance.

Driveway looks good now though, colour matching cars!

Repaired a broken pipe on the fuel pump assembly that lives inside the diesel tank on my V70 with araldite. Will the diesel melt it? Let’s find out!

Some pretty impressive flooding on the rural roads of Norfolk this afternoon - the 75 handled it happily enough but there were a couple of bits where I was worried water was going to start coming in over the sills.  Most of them had gone by this evening, but there was one place where the fire brigade were pumping water away from the road.

Oh, and I got the Renault 6's heater valve unseized.  It's still rather stiffer than I'd like, but it does now open and close.  I'm hesitant to refit the original (and slightly brittle) plastic control lever though given the level of force that is required to move it - I might just keep a 6mm spanner in the car and adjust the temperature that way.  Thanks to the spectacularly shit weather that's all I got done today.

I don't think I ever got my 75 to aquaplane, it just shrugged the standing water out of the way.

I had it aquaplaning once, on the M11 on the way back from collecting the Raleigh Runabout from PBK.  I only realised it was doing it because the revs suddenly went up.  That was before I had the front tyres replaced though, and one of them was very borderline.  Agree that in general it just pounds road obstacles into submission with its enormous weight,

Speaking of aquaplaning, currently at the garage waiting on Fatha_Pin. Dropping off the 172 for new bottom arms and track rods. He is kindly letting me borrow his Volvo v40 Cross Country (I think?) to do the school runs. It's a diesel auto so I'm looking forward to driving it!

Psyching myself up to book the 323 in for an mot as runs out 6/11.

Three chips in the windscreen probably the only major item to scratch head about.

My wife's friend's son has just bought himself a brand new Skoda Fabia, and wants me to sell/roffle his old car. Also a Fabia. All I know it's 03 plate, has about 63k on the clock, it's a 1.2 and it's got MoT until may 2020. He was offered £320 by WBAC.

Would there be any interest before I set up a 4sell Fred?

That's not a bad shout from wbac to be honest, as long as they don't go round knocking it down when he gets there..

That's what his mum (wife's friend) was worried about as I know there's an issue with one of the electric windows (dicky switch)

1 of our Brit neighbours has a 75 they brought with them, drove under an underpass in the local town after a fair downpour

Aquaplaned a good 30 metres before the car stopped, and promptly sank upto the top of it's headlights....

Had to climb out the windows as the doors wouldn't open, gathered some locals to help push it out

The last i heard they had got it running again but the interior is toast

Ordered a windscreen chip repair kit for the 323 from Amazon. Used before so should be ok.

Especially as this one is so easy even a woman could do it (Their words not mine!!!)

Failed to make any progress on getting the Yugo started this weekend (despite having planned to) so to make myself feel like i’d made at least some progress I ordered new number plates for it.

I also failed to fix the Mazda (although I did buy the bits I need), however I did take down two unsightly trees which were blocking the light to the front of the house!

Aaaand I've ordered the wrong suspension arms for the 172. I made a concerted effort to make sure I got the right ones too. Not enough it would seem.

Likely the garage wont be able to source them cheaply either, and plus vat.

I bought myself a little present...

A copy of Motor magazine from 7th September 1985.

The article that interests me is the best cars for under £3500...

Why? Because it features a head to head between a Panda, a Mini, a Skoda Estelle a Lada, oh and...

A Citroen 2CV and a Yugo 45!!

Any magazine featuring two of my fleet is absolutely worth it!

So? The suspense is killing me! Which one is better?

In surprise I received a phonecall this morningIMG_20191006_131555.thumb.jpg.c0402213f6caceadc4ca9c4f11404079.jpg. So before he changed his mind again I went and grabbed the zx! It drives just like a new car and the autobox is so smooth.

So how did that chat face to face go after he first pulled the deal?

Weren't those early 1.2 triples a bit notorious for burning out valves etc?

Well considering I'd called him a wanker on Saturday morning it went ok. It was due to a family issue apparently as it was their late fathers car and his elder brother wanted it scrapped!

No idea. I know nothing about VAG engines.

Scrapped! some people have strange ideas. I'm pleased you got it in the end and it's still on the road.

So the bottom arms for the 172 that the motor factors supplied to my garage were also wrong and the only place to get them is Renault for £sillymoney. Old ones refitted for now.

I'm fed up spending money on it, this year, I've estimated it to be at least £750. It needs better tyres and those lower arms so I'm looking at a total of in excess of a grand.

It's good to go as is though, unsure whether to sell it now or just continue spending on it.

I do still really like the car but on the other hand there are others I would like to try.

Cut the o/s rear arch off the sd1 in readiness for a new panel. Inner needs repairing first

Stopped off in Canada ?? for a break and a bite to eat. Yes, legally it’s not France as the land was gifted in perpetuity from a grateful nation. Not so great full that they cleared all the bombs, but still.

since the last time I stopped there’s a new arboretum of Canadian oak saplings taken from the acorns of oaks from the battlefield.

A mate of mine reckoned that he used to get 2 repair arches and weld them together along the inner lip and then bend the inside one to form a new inner arch.

I've not seen photos but he reckons that it's the easy way to fix it.

My next door neighbour has asked me to take some porkers to market for him tomorrow as they are booked in and he is not feeling well. I have done it once before for him and I have nothing pressing on tomorrow so have agreed, I will use his Land Rover 90 and trailer. Trouble is it is the mart at J36 of the M6 so that is a 2am start!

But tomorrow, 14 little* piggies go to market :-)

I've never seen, or heard, the phrase 'get in the sea' outside of this forum but it's quite well used here.

I'm currently in Nice and have just taken these crappy pics from a moving train with dirty windows between Nice and Antibes.

You really can drive straight off the road and into the sea here! So anything you want rid of...

Took the new* Pyoojoh I bought at the weekend to work today, had a couple of nice compliments towards it. Neither could believe I only paid 500 quid for it! Spent some time this afternoon giving it a proper look over, it really is mint. Whilst looking the part it's certainly no SPROTS car, but it's surprisingly spacious inside, seats are brilliant and it soaks up the bumps nicely. Perfect for a work daily

Had a 'slight moment' headding up the Coast rd. , away from the damn lights (replaced the roundabout!!..)

Hammered it in 1st and the acc pedal caught under the mat = as I dipped for 2nd I saw a flash of 8.5k....

I heaved it into gear/brake pedal/mashed side of pedal and all was well...... Like my belt didn't snap ?

...... TBF though - these cars are regularly thrashed without complaint ;)

...... just I don't really exceed 3k .......
