I had to collect this out of storage yesterday after it had been sitting for 3 years. All it took was a new battery and fired straight up. It is in for mot next week then will be up for sale. It belonged to my customers father and has an impressive 30k miles on it.

Wow that is nice. Looks like it one of those cases where the car was stored properly, so recommissioning shoudn't take so much?

Posted

Lol, are you in BG now? As I am only 5 hours away in Istanbul.

No I'm stuck at home with the kids as usual.  Might take them abroad this year but not having any proper adventures.

Er, if you take them abroad, make sure they have a proper adventure at the same time?

Cycled home at 2 to carry on with paperwork at home. It wasn’t precipitating then, just very slushy and wet on the ground. Snowing again now though.post-8687-0-66509000-1549038065_thumb.jpeg

Rotherham is bollocksed as well tonight. No idea why but when I left work at 4pm there was twice as much traffic as at 5:30pm when it's normally busiest. I dropped down a few back roads as I was dropping a work mate off & still got stuck in stationary traffic for 20mins where the queue is normally 3 cars long...

The snow hasn't even settled here ffs!

It’s the reason I went in on the bike as you can always get off and walk. Though at 6 this morning and 2pm this afternoon there was very little traffic.

Mike's new car passed its MoT, which is great.  Just pick up the Rover at the unit and trundle the handful of miles home.  Learn that the Rover is a TERRIBLE car in the snow because it gives almost no feedback when a skid starts.  Narrowly missed crashing into someone, then could only set off in second because first saw me just spinning my wheels, and then the wanker behind me that saw this happened decided that flashing their lights to make me go faster than the ludicrously low speed I was doing was a good idea.  Incredibly relieved to be home and wishing I'd taken the Princess instead which is much more capable in the snow.

I wished it snowed all the time. So quite on the road it was blissful! As it's been above 0c, the snow on the roads had cleared.

-2c overnight might make things interesting tomorrow morning though.

We've had no snow this week in this corner of the world.

My security cam picked up my daughter arriving home from school at lunchtime today.

Then picked her up again leaving at 4pm.

The 200bhp s60 on summer tyres proved to be as good* as expected. Might be on the bike tomorrow.

Giffer owned, low mileage but couldn't see it running as someone had broken the fuel hose connector on the top of the fuel pump.

Ends of sills are corn flakes and there's a hole in the driver's inner wing.

Lad selling it insists he'd had it running and the suspension goes up and down.

I got an international drivers permit today as well ... this is convention 1968, which covers most of Europe, after March 29th 2019.

Iirc we won't need one for Ireland, but Spain needs a different one or other things ...

That’s almost two months away - how did they issue it at the end of March already?

Posted

They can post-date the 1968 ones. I don't think they're technically valid or required until the end of March.

They cost £5.50

In Turkey at the moment with the wife. So far all grin worthy. Managed to get a car sorted through my cousins landlord;

Hyundai i30cw Estate 1.6 Diesel. Nice little car, sips fuel and easy to manoeuvre. I like the range of post 2013 Hyundais.

However, driving here in Istanbul leaves a lot to be desired:

It was like this for miles. Traffic jams that take hours to get through. Even taking short cuts can leave you in a worse position. London has got nothing on this...

Anyway, after almost losing my temper in traffic we stopped off at a beach-side cafe 5 minutes walk from our home;

Loads man. Loads. Need to get out and start spotting. When my wife goes back to work I'll be whipping out the camera for chod spotting.

Already seen an early Sierra ala bASe (though probably not base spec) Cortina, and a Mazda van that doesn't look like its moved for a few years....

Another upcoming pas-de-calais event. I think every man and his chien is going to tie their event to Andre this year.

Well, there was visible snow on the main road out of town.

Apparently a lorry has got stuck on a flyover.  Which is the only way out on to the main road.  All the country lanes are definitely out because we don't have anybody that's ever driven in Wales.

Grit will not stop snow settling. I think people too often assume it does and then blame the council for not gritting...

Roads here are fine because they've been ploughing them like crazy. This lay by was not ploughed.

I was off to drive this electric Fiat again.

So I'm doing quite well for winter shots of tiny cars this year.

I tried to get one last year and made sure to go to the bigger post office in town that does car tax.  Obviously I did this on the morning I was due to get on the plane to BG and was told I'd have to go to the main post office in Shrewsbury so fortunately nobody asked to see it (unless they asked in Serbo-Croat then gave up when it became obvious that we were never going to understand each other).

I realise that a responsible person who respected other cultures properly would enter a country with a good grasp of the language.  Fortunately I'm not a responsible person and after 5 years of French lessons barely taught me anything I'm not going to attempt to learn more than 5 words for a country I'll be in for 24 hours and generally failed to remember that many.

Ah. I did have time to sort out an IDP, but thought 'balls to it. I'm sure it'll be fine.' Then the blue lights started flashing behind us in Bosnia...

No snow in Tamworth today.

In other news I will be visiting South Africa soon and needed to obtain an International Driving Permit. From today they are available from your local* Post Office (don't wish to start a debate on demise of local services!) and its proper old school service. It has to be stamped and they actually write in it too, took me back a bit as does the item itself. There is also a choice of permits, depending on which convention applies - oh, and it all changes again in March because Brexit!

Since when did you need that for driving in SA ? We went a couple of years back and I just showed the hire car company my picture card and passport. AVIS iirc.
