Today is the saddest day of my motoring life (to date).

Bye bye sweet AX, my life will be forever duller without you in it.

DO NOT LIKE!

where is it off to?

It's going to a good home with a shiter who I'm sure will treat it as it deserves, which I've not been able to do recently.

It was the most fun car I've ever owned, by a mile.

The exhaust on my Clio developed an annoying rattle from the mid-section this week. On inspection the bolt that tightens the clamp between front and rear sections has given up.

New clamp is less than a fiver, but how much grief will removing the old one cause?

Think I'll wait for more sensible temperatures

because of the employment law with states that th he employer is vicariously liable for the employee, that means the council will have to pay the fine?

might just get quashed as some cooncil vehicles are exempt- that's how the parking nazis get away with giving you a ticket whist they can park their scooter/smart/pious on the red/yellows

Sent the wife to a spa day and took me and the kids to Croft circuit Nostalgia day. Much old but not very crusty metal on display.

Didnt even get the chance to autotest it. :-(

Due to some financial re-alignment, I've found myself in a place to buy a cheap modern (well 2000 onwards) for work commuting purposes on my insurance policy which is currently spare.

I've got the horn for a 206 Roland Garros or a C2 Code. Both are decedent specs of their respective bases, and ergo slightly more to buy. I've seen one of the latter locally at £1250, but I have just emailed someone selling a 206 not thaaat far away.

Will only be until October, unless the 605 vanishes. Doubtful though, I just don't love driving it short distances.

Also, I am off to get the R11 tomorrow. Insurance sorted, a bargain £177 for a year with FJ, with commuting if needed.

I’ve had an up and down week, which I thought had ended in a draw until I saw the news about Dave numbers.

MrsT’s Scenic II passed its MOT with no surprise advisories, then shat it’s alternator on the way home from the testing station. Not charging, which is a shame as I’d had the alternator off in May to fit a pulley. On the plus side I managed to bag an exchange unit for 80 quid.

On the minus side MrsT lost the only working keycard shortly after getting the car repaired and back home, rendering the car useless.

My lads 207 failed it’s MOT on a drop link (no drama), an inoperative engine check lamp and a broken subframe mounting bolt. Dreading 2 of the 3 jobs I investigated the MIL lamp first. Some dodgy tw*t had broken the surface mount LED off the PCB, so I soldered a standard LED in its place - job bobbed.

The subframe bolt turned out to be easy too, there is a nice cut out in the chassis leg and the broken piece was removed easily enough. New bolt and job sorted, new drop link and all good - fresh MOT.

Started the Panther Lima project today, gearbox came out easy enough, should have the engine out tomorrow.

Austin 12/6 project arrived too.

MrsT came back from shopping and had found her keycard in the shopping bags, er don’t ask but we’re on the winning side. Then I saw the Dave numbers thread and things came into perspective.

Usually with exhaust clamps they either undo quite easily or they shear (more often the latter), which achieves the desired effect as long as you weren't hoping to reuse it. Obviously you need to be sure your replacement clamp is correct first.

This is remarkable, not least for the material used.

I walked out the door quite suddenly this evening, drove down the road three miles, and bought a Fiat Grande Punto on the spot. 2007, 120k miles, service history, two keys, matching decent set of tyres. 3 previous owners. To be honest it was such an easy transaction that I thought I would do it for the profit at the other end. Seems like it qualifies for Autoshite*. It’s quite miserable in a charming sort of way. I’m going to fix all the MOT advisories and might change the cam belt since it looks dead easy (1.2 Fire engine). What do we think. Roffle fodder? On of the MOT advisories mentioned was “slightly distorted wheels”. They are steelies and are perefectly fine. Never seen such tosh.

Anyone going to the BL day at Peatboghorror tomorrow?

Squire_Dawson is, judging by a post he made about prepping his Allegro.

I'm giving it a miss this year, can't be arsed TBH.

I conducted a science experiment without even realising.

We moved into our house 3 years ago last week. It was an unusual move in that we bought a property that was inferior in every way, other than the location. We are slowly modernising (even got central heating now!) but we’ve had to be careful not to fix anything that would ultimately succumb to an extension and end up getting knocked down.

Hence the garage.

It is awful.

It’s a single skin affair with corrugated asbestos roof. The surveyor recommended it be demolished, so we chipped them £5k to have it fixed and naturally put all of our stuff in it anyway. Now, I’ve not had it re-roofed because we will probably need to knock it over to build a new room. But I needed it storm proof - something it wasn’t.

So, I bought a heavy grade 30ft tarp for £60 and weighed it down with about 20 blocks. It has worked pretty well for 2 years, until I saw a small tear in it earlier this week.

Wow.

When I got up there it was in about 26 pieces.

Apparently, UV really breaks them down. So the long hot summer of 2018 claims another victim.

Annoyingly, I’m still no further forward with plans so will likely buy another and roll the dice again.

You can get corrugated PVC or bitumen roofing sheets for about £5-10 a square metre if you’ve got rafters to screw them into. Shouldn’t cost much/any more and will survive a damn sight better than tarp whether sunny or storms.

That’s a good idea. The only problem is the garage is about 10ft wide, and there is only one steel running the length of the tandem garage. Ideally it should have a couple of purlins running in parallel. Also, the timbers at the top of the brickwork are also rotten - so that needs ripping out too. All in, it’s probably a good few days work for something that might be down in a year.

That said, I’m also potentially looking for excuses when really I should just crack on!

Paint this on the asbestos, the resin will seal the roof and the fibers will bridge small gaps it will last year's, a mask might be a good idea while painting and make sure you buy a cheap boiler suit to throw away after its done in case it picks up any asbestos fibers.

Obviously if you have big gaps that are letting in rain the fix-cryl will not be able to fix those.

Fair do’s Mr Identity, my slightly obvious suggestion was a classic bit of internet ‘advice’ based on no knowledge of the situation, wasn’t it? :-)

I like Honey Badger’s Fixcryl idea for my own flat roof garage, which is watertight at the moment but needs a spruce up.

Been offered a cheap* modern which I am considering buying to replace Mrs Ruff's berlingo.

God bless main stealers, they have offered him way below market value for a two owner, 115k Kuga...

Woke up, nice cup of tea and had a quick look on the laptop. Gumtree, why not.

Now I'm trying to work out how to get to Dunblane to pick up a fucked old K11 Micra for 150 bucks without my girlfriend noticing.

It hasn't been put in for it's test to fail yet, and I know a garage who seem to be "classic friendly". How bad can it be? If it's anything like the K11 I had, bad.

Edit - thankfully its gone.

Redruth is incredibly far away. 3 hours by train already and only halfway.

Tell me about it, the line after Bristol is so slow!

Unless things have changed in the last 3 weeks I have been on holiday the Nissan Juke isn't dead.

The trials on the new Juke start for us September /October. As far as I am aware and I could be wrong the present Juke will be built till the end of this year at least.

2CV was meant to be the steed for Reliant engine fetching today, but the battery had all of about five volts in it. Hooked up my new jump pack, away she went. Took the pack off, she stopped running after a minute or two. Hmmm. Out with the voltmeter, still 5.5v even when running. Ah. Further experiments later will confirm whether the battery has died (it's just an old one a friend gave me) or whether the alternator is playing up.
