It's hard to drive a car wearing a bag on your head you know

Wouldn't blame her for being annoyed though,

the car looks in good shape.

More fuel efficient than chompy_snake's 1.2 Clio, official*. Not a selected long downhill stretch of road but from Aviemore to Falkirk, up and down brae.

It's impressively frugal for a big estate with a 90s designed engine, I'm not sure how accurate the readout is mind you.

The CV joint is still clicking, I got a driveshaft from J&R for £pleasantly little but I haven't got the tools I need to fit it yet. Bloody M16 hex.

If the driveshaft is the passenger side please use thread lock when putting the driveshaft bolts back in. You're probably aware, but the passenger side one has a habit of unscrewing itself on VWs.

I'm not sure about the M16 hex, I used some special driveshaft things at my local garage, can't remember what they were, but quite long as well as not common spline.

If your mpgometer is like the one on my boring was that means low 60s, so still pretty good.

Have you removed the EGR gubbins and mass of associated vac hoses yet?

I removed and blanked the egr when I had it, made a difference

Cool, it removes that mess of vac hoses as well as one of the N** valves, makes things much tidier.

The hex or Allen bit is for the main driveshaft bolt, I can borrow some splined bits off my neighbour for the driveshaft-gearbox bolts.

Which vacuum bits can you bin? I went on a spree of changing the vacuum hoses, the turbo actuator one was suspect, it went a bit better after that but I still feel like the performance is bit flat and the turbo isn't boosting like it should.

I retrieved the Allegro 1100 from storage and have been doing a few jobs I'd put off for a while. Packed the inner pot joints, touched up some of the paintwork, now I just need to change the 3 year old brake fluid and clean the calipers. Rocketed along coming home at 85 when asked. BMC/BL Day ready.

Don't think I've ever seen one of those spoilers for a Focus before.  It's very peculiar, but you don't really notice it with everything else that's going on there.

You need to use an EGR delete pipe, not sure if this is now against MOT rules … I used one and removed the ASV (anti-shudder valve, shuts the engine down more smoothly) and all the hoses in red, N18, N239, I kept the vac reservoir though.

On mine, the ASV was faulty, limiting boost, so was cheaper to buy an EGR delete than a new ASV … If you're not sure if the ASV might be limiting boost, it can be cable tied open to test it, one of the chaps at darkside showed me that trick ;)

Needed some more key rings, found cable ties in coat pocket.

Also got a NIP through door for 47 in 40 from a van.

Bang to rights, that’s 15 years since my last lot of points.

Doesn't that completely upset the handling (and fuel economy) by pushing the backend down too much and pulling the front up? Being FWD means less pressure on the front tyres, so less traction and grip.

Went to see OMD at the Kelvingrove Bandstand tonight, basically the MG Maestro with digital dashboard in musical form. Fucking quality.4c03126a48ed2b6cfb20640e412eea99.jpg

That doesn't apply to the AFN engine I don't think, that's more for the PD engines. I've had 2 PD engines and removed the pipework then.

I did that on my 110 VE AHF engine, I'd assume all VE have the same setup.

Adding a few pd bits helps as well … I also did the pd130 airbox swap, turbo swap (it bolts straight on) and whilst there fitted a 20VT "pancake pipe" to the intercooler.

After those it was difficult getting off the line at Crail, as it just span the wheels, admittedly I was on performance winter re-treads.

I also did the redneck intake clean. Airhose and fire to burn off all of the residue. That was fun, not sure if it makes much difference but it's quite satisfying.

edit: I think I posted this on the veg or diesel tuning thread we had a few years ago

Not at all to my taste, but if the good lady likes it, who am I to argue? :)

I imagined her with pink hair. And pink doc Martin's.

Probably find they'll dock it from his wages or prove he was the designated driver for the vehicle at that time. Either way the driver of that little hoover will end up paying

My Mazda is behaving like an absolute gent these days, which has left me far too much time on my hands to post absolute bullshit on these boards. There is a weird trapped duck sound when I flip the throttle tho.......

Need to have a good look, don't want anything ending up at intake valves. Angle is much steeper in real life

At least they live a couple of hundred miles away so I don't have to look after it.

given its only controlled by the air intake control valve ...  it could be made redundant and just let the engine breath cold air .....
