Food news.

I've just had 2 pints of Sharpe's Doombar and a plate of chips with melted cheese and smoked bacon.

I feel no shame whatsoever when I say they were fucking delicious and I want more.

Today, I took the Rover to a rather different car event. Some folk might recognise the location...

Yes, the Reliant Kitten Register had a meet-up at a certain motor museum. I headed up and handed the Fox's engine over to a bloke I've never met, who is taking to a bloke I have met slightly who is going to sort it out with a new head and a makeover. It rained a lot. Nice folk though, and it was nice to nose about under the bonnet of a Fox, taking photos and trying to work out how mine should all go back together again.

Being a former Rialto owner, I have a deep affection for most things reliant. Fibreglass body and galvanised chassis is a magnificent combo IMO.

at this point, even after tea and cake, we were pissin' wet through. so time for home.

a shame the weather was so poor, as usually this is a cracking show, but the wether, wind and constant rain maent that none of the autojumbleres had come, and that maybe a quarter of the cars that would usually come to show, had come to the show.

still, we got wet, and while we came away home early, the time that we had there was fun.

Hooray, we fixed the problem with the Princess fuel gauge.

It was not in the dashboard.  Full report soon.

'Tis pissing down and has been since yesterday, also blowing hard enough to keep a dockyard tart in business for a decade. So, lots of slippery roads, leaves and mud. I was looking forward to some sideways action (as I am a BIG child and as miserable as fuck and mega grumpy with it at the moment) and discovered this rotten Mercedes has traction control that kills ALL the fun! I can't seem to find a button to turn it off either, which is a pain. Just starts to spin and then big triangle comes on the dash and all fun ends.

P'ah!

Is this the CLK?  I had a 2000 320 CLK Avantgarde and it was on the centre console. Marked ASR or something.

Is the kitten register classed as a litter then?

I hope you don't mean kitty litter.

Update on the flight of the Morris Commercial. Here we are on the return journey, stopping to top up with motor spirit at the Cambridge services.

post-7547-0-94482900-1532900768_thumb.jpg

I've never shagged a kangaroo, but reckon that with a decent load on the Morris gives a similar ride on our poxy roads. (It have no shock absorbers). Anyway, 300 miles in a weekend isn't bad for an 85 year old. Service intervals are 500 miles so another grease-up soon.

Will unload when it stops raining, but here's one of the many lovely things under the tarp:

I've heard the 'Teagle Jetcut' loses some of its allure if you have to spend all day strapped to one, (16:1 mix).

Cutting the hedge in the nude might not be adviseable with that unguarded drive-belt.

Oof that Fairlady though.

In other news, I suffered my first loss of traction event in the MX5 on Friday. Sharp left turn, slightly uphill so I was on the power, and the back slid out. Overcorrected slightly for a not at all elegant zig zag slide. Fucking terrifying. Glad there was nothing coming the other way or I'd have hit it.

Keep seeing adverts for www.driiveme.co.uk - one way car rental mostly with Hertz and mostly between airports for £1....

hey Slarti, I used to LOVE getting the arse out in the MX5, it was/is really controllable, you just need to get used to it/practice some as they really are chuckable little things and when they slide, it is really controllable... usually! However, the roads are extremely greasy at the moment after all this damn sunshine ( :)   ) so easy to get it wrong. Practice somewhere open and empty to get proper 'feel' for the car. I'm not suggesting you become a drift God, but if you know what it will do if the back steps out then you gives you lots more confidence in the wet or greasy/slippery conditions :)

If an mx5 is sketchy in a slide, look at the tyres. Good tyres should be easily controllable even when traction has been lost.

The normal reason for a zig-zag path up the road when sideways is lifting off too much so the back snaps straight too quickly.

Have to agree, I had some absolute turds on the back of mine and it was distressingly tail happy in the wet with absolutely no progression. Replaced for decent boots and it was much more predictable.

doing this in a Volvo 240 thanks to a dumping of oil on the road was fun , the dam thing went sideways to sideways numerous times  whilst I fought the wheel ...

thankfully I was entering a 3 lane wide junction with no other traffic and large grassed kerbs  .... my arms ached afterwards from the effort   !!!  ,

I really thought I was going to lose the thing .......

I once ended up stationary in the outside lane of a dual cabbage way facing the oncoming traffic after being a twat on wet roads in a ovlov 340. Rather worrying when you can see the mongs steaming towards you without slowing as they just aren't looking.

Apologies if we've already been through this and I've missed it, but has anyone heard from tooSavvy recently?
