They did HR-Vs with CVT too. I'd very much like to try one of these.

Apparently the CVT version has a super-low first gear lower end of the cones or whatever system it uses and is a lot handier for minor offroading as its like a proper low crawler gear for edging over obsacles rather than having to keep the manual in first, wind it up to a zillion rpm till VTEC yo to prevent in stalling and tearing the arse out of the clutch.

Given how the manual drives on road I reckon the CVT would be a real hoot too....very point n squirt.

Our focus performed superbly during our holiday to Devon, on some occasions showing a clean pair of heels to more modern machinery on the motorway.

Somebody will be getting s good car when it is moved on.

Just incase you need to know the handbrake cable adjuster on that shape crv is under the passenger seat . Slide the seat forward , lift a carpet flap and it's under a tin plate ( 10mm socket and a no2 Phillips iirc) of course you should slacken this off and adjust the little drums first ! Not just ream the cable up

Feel free to tell me to 'grow the fuck up' or anything else appropriate.

I think it would be appropriate to sack off the Bentley next year and buy a nice coach instead. :)

So, on the French Car Forum, a Xantia is for sale local to me.

It's a 2.0 turbo petrol Activa. It has 134k miles on it.

However, it'll have a fresh MOT, freshly welded sills, and 8x alloys with tyres. It also apparently has a manual boost controller.

They want £1k for it.

I don't have that much money right now, though. If I did I may have ended up doing something incredibly silly.

Will your mother be bringing it to Crail?

It might do quite well, when my colleague bought his crv he booted it when we got on the motorway and I gave up trying to keep up when we hit a ton, and judging by the could the zx emitted I tried bloody hard...

We need a rematch now though with the xantia. He says it's pretty quick though, a d surprises folk alot, probably cos it can get all the power down over 4 wheels

Last week i decided to change the oil in the Fiesta, i refitted the old sump plug and noticed that when i was doing it up it went slightly tight and then loose again, i didn't think much off it until i noticed it was dripping oil.

So today i thought I'd remove the old plug and fit a new Ford one I've just got only to find the fucker had snapped clean off.

Arse, so now i have a bigger drip and half a plug stuck in the sump i can't get out, it's my own fault, i bought the plug last year of ebay as it had a magnetic end and it was cheap, clearly cheap for a reason. I've borrowed a stud extractor set but i've never used one before so i expect I'll removing the sump before I'm finished...

Speaking of big tall hondas..

CRV with mot til july 97k miles and leather auto and petrol

Happy mother achieved!

it seems to be a doddle to get in/out of with her replaced hip

worlds oddest gearbox/handbrake combo

My neighbour has an older one of these, scrape on every corner but it cost him £500 and he loves it.

Again the height was one of the main reasons for getting it.

You'd be better off getting somebody to MIG a nut onto the remains.

Would that work? There's not much room and I'd thought the heat from the mig would ignite the oil or am i being thick?. I can feel the remaining bolt is loose in the holeso it shouldn't take much to remove it, it's just gripping the bastard thing.

Drill a hole and use one of those fucked screw removing tools.

The left hand thread things.

Posted

The trouble with drilling is that you risk getting swarf into the sump. If it's loose in the sump I'd probably try drilling a small hole near the edge and knocking it round with a punch.

If it had happened while a garage was changing the oil I'm pretty sure they would deal with it by welding a nut on. A quick zap with a welder won't produce anything like enough heat to risk igniting the oil.

Fiesta

All Fords need to die in a massive raging bastard of a fire

Especially this fucking Fiesta I can't shift the crank pulley bolt on

I tried to help a mate do the cam belt on his 06 plate Fiesta zetec. Despite having masses of big sockets and breaker bars, scaffy poles and the like, we couldn't get the pulley bolt off either. Gave up in the end and sent it to the garage.

Not what I want to hear, Herr_Stones

I can't get my massive impact gun on it without using an extension bar which just absorbs most of the torque :(

Just spent £246.80 on brake disc's and park brake shoe's for the LS400. I did considered pads as well but I put a new set in around 3,000 miles ago & feel it'd be a waste of £80, here's hoping they aren't too worn.

For anyone caring, the front disc's are fancy grooved & dimpled EBC one's that should have cost £245 but I got for £164.

The rear's are mintex ones, and the park brake shoes are BluePrint (which are the same as the brake pads fitted)

All this as well as the rear caliper slider pins (genuine Lexus parts) I've been meaning to fit since June.

Trigger - if you can feel the sump bolt is loose, then dont drill it as you risk the drill gripping it and spinning it round, screwing it right into the sump.

If you can get some reverse drill bits, they would be ideal as you will unscrew it as you drill.

Or get a centre-punch and hammer and use the punch to tap the bolt round to unscrew it.

Alternatively, use a sharp chisel or a dremel and cut a groove in the end and unscrew with a flat screwdriver.

I cant see you having much luck glueing something on there due to oil everywhere and constantly dripping. Welding a bolt on will be fine safety-wise, but doesnt look like there is much room.

With the head gone the remains shouldnt be tight in the hole so I reckon it should come out easy enough.

Posted

It might be worth emptying the sump with a Pela pump first to make the job more pleasant.

I think the reverse drill bit is a good idea, I guess it would tighten it up if my idea was used, although I wouldn't drill all the way through due to swarf as mentioned.

Posted

It wouldn't tighten as there is no head on the bolt - it would just wind into the sump then disappear at the same time as the sump contents poured over your electric drill.

This morning we have an F40, Bugatti e110 and Countach! Bit of digging reveals they've been to Blenheim Salon Prive for the weekend.

I had the same trouble but a quick sharp couple of dads to the crank bolt with a large hammer then she came free, they are the same as the corsa as in bloody tight to stop the bottom pulley turning on crank.
