SiC Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 It was my birthday yesterday so I had a chill out weekend. Mrs SiC struggles to comprehend that idea so tried booking the day up for us to both see her friend. 🤦♂️ Anyway on Saturday we went to a country life museum. Wondered around Tiverton. Lovely buildings intertwined with a sorry looking town centre. Drove back home up the A38. The roads around Somerset/Devon are absolutely filthy at the moment. Took the TT to scrub the tyres in. The handling is vastly improved with decent rubber now on it. Also saw this quirky RHD Yank on the Saturday morning on the streets of Clevedon Yesterday we had lunch in Priddy and then to Wells for a wander and Ice Cream. Finally the Engine pallet has been picked up today to head northbound to its new home. Was supposed to have gone on Friday but useless couriers. Going to find a scrapman to pick up the remains of the Dolomite carcass. Even if I don't get money for it, I just want it gone from the drive now. DVee8, Dyslexic Viking, Split_Pin and 14 others 17
Split_Pin Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 I have finally reached 500 subs on my You Tube channel. Finding time to release new videos has been challenging but I hope to do more once the lighter nights allow some shite spannering again. The funniest thing is that my buyer's guide for MK3 Cavaliers helped someone buy a good example. I know its a decent example because I subsequently and unknowingly bought that same car blind from ebay and it wasn't until I sent him a picture of it outside my house that he recognised the surroundings from my videos! Sunny Jim Posted February 21, 2023 Posted February 21, 2023 This chapter in the annals of the Flat Cap Sailing Club comes to an end. We've sailed 1123 miles in the last eight weeks: Portugal to Madeira then on to the Canaries via the Savage Islands. Mates for over 25 years and still having daft adventures together. lesapandre Posted February 21, 2023 Posted February 21, 2023 Very sweet video of a summers day and the 1979 Daimler and Lanchester Owners Club Rally - this would have been shot probably on 'Super 8' and has been transferred to video. I ran a few of the stately 50's cars regs through the DVLA car tax checker and have found few still on the road - either out of tax 30 years + or the reg on a modern. Oh dear - just shows that even cars in enthusiast preservation are understandably subject to continuing high attrition over 40+ years - just like all the pictured Stans, Rays and Bills who owned them. And me... I was in my teens then and now in my 60's. I did not run all the car regs through... so maybe a few more survive or in a dusty shed under a sheet. Here is hoping. vulgalour and RayMK 2
brownnova Posted February 21, 2023 Posted February 21, 2023 Bodge of the day… Needed a number plate for the trailer, but didn’t want to fork out for what’s likely to be a one off use. So I found an old front number plate in the garage and painted using our kitchen’s yellow paint. Bought some stick on letters/numbers for £3… Result… That’ll do… 5 and 7 a little wonky… but that’s ok. LightBulbFun, Tickman, Rust Collector and 9 others 12

Is that Sybil Fawlty handing out the awards at the end there?

Rust Collector Posted February 22, 2023 Posted February 22, 2023 I have a customer visit in that there Lun-dun tomorrow so I've paid my first ever ULEZ charge - I'm taking my filthy, polluting 1 litre hybrid 😅 I should probably contact Honda for a certificate of conformity at some point...
Zelandeth Posted February 22, 2023 Posted February 22, 2023 Oh bugger... just realised halfway through installing a bunch of shelving that I need to unplug a power and a network cable to reroute it. Unfortunately said cables are the ones providing power to and the connection to the router for the network switch that feeds everything in the house with data. ...So that will have to wait until everyone is done with work for the day then! Which is annoying as it means leaving the room in a state of complete disarray. My own fault for not thinking about it earlier, but still irritating.

Joey spud Posted February 22, 2023 Posted February 22, 2023 About two years ago my son bought a scruffy second hand Clarke portable garage for £50 with plans of housing his 300zx in it but instead left it rolled up in my garden. Fast forward to today and I dug it out of the bushes and spent 45 mins putting it up. I wasn't expecting it to be any good but I'm quite impressed with it's design and how you can tension the cover so it is nice and tight. I don't think it would last long in a location like an exposed field but if it is well anchored down the side of a house I reckon they would be great asset for a shitter. It's in the historic tax class so it should be exempt, I'll register it with TFL and see what happens... *edit: After all the excitement of registering for a TFL account and then punching in the reg to register it as exempt I got this: Job jobbed! My father in law had one of these and they're great. What you need to do is to make sure that the top cover is pulled really taught over the frame because if it gets windy and it flaps about then the frame rubs through the cover. My brother-in-law built it for my FIL and did a shitty job, and it rubbed through in about a dozen places over the space of 2 years. Something thats massively worth doing is fitting pipe lagging to the 60 degree angle sections to help cushion the elbow from poking through the cover if you can Some people who live just down the road and whose house is on the seafront have one of these that they keep their MX5 in and its survived absolutely fine for 10 years or so, in a position that's much more exposed to wind and weather. It does look like it was built correctly though chaseracer, BorniteIdentity, Joey spud and 1 other 4
