Snap!

Bought these on Trademe a few months ago and my cousin picked them up for me. We finally met up last night, so I was able to see what I'd received. Think I paid about $20, from memory - which is actually quite a bit for me, with my tight-arse tendencies and all.

I've got a few 50's issues now, a few more 60's issues and from '74-1989, I've only got one issue missing! I've also got loads from 1990 onwards (bought a massive job lot years ago cheap) but it's pre-1990 that interests me most.

As you can see, there are some duplicates and I have other duplicates, too. Happy to send duplicates to you for the cost of postage from NZ to Aus, if you'd like.

I'm very envious of your purchase.

Specialist phones up saying they're too busy to see my car this week. Onwards to the next Citroen Specialists- Triple A in Rye. Hopefully they have a free slot. I spy a C5 estate outside so they can't be all that bad.

Had a call this morning from a local but big name in the area recovery firm offering an interview next week for a class 2 tilt and slide recovery role. Sounds bloody perfect for what I want - home based with the truck, 6 on 3 off and salary is between 7-9k more than I’m on now.

To some it would be the worst job ever but this is my dream job and I’ve wanted to do it for many years so I’ll be giving it my all.

I'm sorry...what the hell?

Just unbolted the exhaust manifold from the head...the last thing I said before starting was "Okay, let's place our bets on how many I snap..."

Every single one unbolted without any drama whatsoever.  Okay, 50/50 as to whether the nut unscrewed or it wound the stud out, but that's irrelevant to me at this stage.

What madness is this?!?  I was expecting this part to be a full afternoon of swearing in itself!

Try headbutting a pheasant whilst on a motorbike.. unpleasant.

I had one hit me in the chest after rolling over the nosecone of my Cagiva Mito. It then rolled up my chest, then over my helmet, leaving me slightly bemused.

The local policeman in Great Missenden, when I was young, P.C Flint, was unfortunately killed by a pheasant strike on his way home from work on the A41 between Chesham and Tring, whilst on a motorbike.

What other kind of interview would you expect😀

Don't mention Autoaid.

A lot of work done on this recently.
Welding to offside sill at rear (cost £0 -did it myself)
I replaced the full cooling system as the radiator was corroded and blocked. New radiator, water pump, thermostat, fan switch, fans tested, coolant and I also replaced a few small pipes that were soft and leaking.
Straight through the MOT with only 2 advisories for front bushes and discs
New timing belt and tensioner today as the tensioners weren't done last time. Bottom pulley bolts had turned to chocolate so I'm glad I didn't attempt this myself.
Total cost including parts, the MOT and labour where I didn't do the work myself came to £264.

I took it to the Tartan Tarmac breakfast meet on Sunday and amongst about 95% very, very expensive and/or exotic cars, it seemed to be a refreshing change for the other attendees and got quite a bit of attention.

A good choice of budget retro car I'd say.

On my delivery on Monday there was a tree down right across the road. By the time I took this picture most of it had been cut up but when we first turned in to the road it was a sea of green right the way across.

I was off yesterday but when I got to the same spot today I found this.

I had no idea there was a car underneath it at the time. Shame as its quite unusual if not particularly interesting.

Phone interview went well, now have a video one next week! Hopefully it goes well too.

Yay!

I had my first interview in 18 years a couple of weeks back. Was given the job.

Clearly, having spent the last 18 years doing interviews helped my technique 😂

I conducted quite a few interviews over the last few years, though I was making it up as I went along and it was purely academic because Numbertile Pizza will hire anyone.

Can you please ask them to justify the £422 per year they charged to a 76 year old man for his car recovery!!!! New member maybe...

No, 56 fkin years and they would still be skinning him now. Exploiting the elderly.... He didn't even drive for the last four years!!! 😠😠😠😠

Anyone know the email address of the bloke who does all the AA tv interviews 😠😠😠

Try running one over on a 2 up loaded with camping equipment RD350LC at 85 mph.

1) it's like hitting a curb.

2) my passenger slept through it.

3) my passenger asked what the smell of burnt meat was, when we arrive at the camp sight.

4) head later found trapped between belly pan and exhaust

I once had to take a detour as a horse had jumped over the front of a car.  Poor horse was put down.  Ambulance was taking the driver away.

Car looked like a write off.

If you actually argue the toss with the retentions folk they drop your quote quite a bit... my mum does this every year and Relay is about £170.

If they can do it profitably for £170 then charging an old man £422 puts them in the same category as the overcharging scam artists who rip off old people for repairs they have done.

Audi has been delivered and will have the little things needed to pass the inspection fixed today. Then the excitement was what kind of car I got to borrow today, it became the workshop manager / owner's own Toyota Land Cruiser complete with his belongings and child seats.

Wound out studs = pre torqued for reassembly. 👌

Especially when they know that he probably does 12 miles a week, and hasn't broken down since 1978, which is why he joined in the first place.

Said it before and I'll say it again: the AA is now a 'financial services provider' with a breakdown outfit loosely attached for marketing purposes.

How can swapping a radiator be so difficult?

Capri:

Unscrew bottom coolant hose, drain coolant. Unbolt fan shroud. Unscrew top coolant hose. Unbolt 4 fixing bolts, pull radiator up.

Mondeo:

Spend ages fighting with bloody awful spring clips, eventually drain antifreeze onto hair/clothes, unscrew mounts for electric fan, unclip a load of related and unrelated wiring, try to remove, absolutely won't move, try to move bauden cable under the bonnet which gives a reassuring >SNAP< - oh feck - give up - come home and re-read the Haynes... bloody hell you have to dismantle half the bloody cooling system to even get the electric fan out! Give up and sit in the warm/dry.

Posted

After wheel nearly falling off Mondeo there was one wheel nut missing and the rest merely loose.

I ordered a new nut, duly went to re-fit it and...

No threaded bar. It it possible it has sheared off along with the nut and that the two of them have gone for a romantic picnic together in the grass verge?

Bought some 70s MG brochures, just because.

You'd think they'd have chosen a wheel that was painted properly? But it is BL and I guess they are being honest.
