Sadly not an old bus. Copy of a pre WWI London General B type, which didn't have pneumatic tyres, or a "J" registration. Cab has various bits that look like they can from a Routemaster.

Most of the underside is Ford D Series so its getting on a bit....Some days you can get on it with a young girl driver (mostly summertime) who double de-clutches it like a pro, real pleasure to hear!

How long does it take to rip the front bumper off a 67 plate Kia sorrento (or something)? 4 seconds...

Was behind Bev upstairs as we sauntered down the road and towards our overflow car park at work. Suddenly Bev stops dead as she smacks one of the Rhino posts in the middle of the road that wasn't put down this morning. She was doing about 15mph.

She then reverses and tears the thing off, ripping all the wires out of their connectors. I just stayed on the road and put the hazards on so no one swung into the back of her.

Oops

Found this in the loft, it used to live in all my cars in the late 80s.  I think it cost £29.99 and used to make a massive improvement, may fit it to my MX5 (and be completely disappointed, no doubt).

Need a photo of the road to confirm how much of a fucktard she is - I suspect lots

She is. Screaming and shouting, made the head of facilities walk off... You hit the bright yellow post love... As shit as it is its kind of your fault. We got the bumper clipped onto the remains of the mountings, then as she drove into the car park I could hear the dash bonging with headlight faults!

Luckily she works upstairs now so I don't have to hear her go on about it all day, she used to be downstairs with us

As a teenager, I bought one of those planning to beef up the output from my ghettoblaster, not realising that it needed a hefty 12 v supply. Undaunted, I rigged up a car battery and charger and got the thing going - it sounded great until my mam came home and decreed that "you're not keeping that in your bedroom, you'll burn the house down". Shame, I was rather pleased with my efforts. It went back to Dixons for a refund :(

In my search for another car I have been sadly disappointed with the number and quality of chod around on Autotrader and eBay. I found where they are all hiding though, the sneaky bastards are on Gumtree! Never visited before, seems nice....

I used to have a 'walkman' by Sashio - quality 80s knock-off stuff!

Got a package today that had my name all over it.

What's in it, you may ask.

Not the best brand, might be shite, but it wasn't expensive and I thought it'd be worth a try.

I iz disappoint. Was hoping it was a box full of tat to attach to a PT Cruiser....

How much was it out of interest ?

Nice buy. Would be interested to hear how you get on Sir, been toying with buying one for a wee while and don't fancy spending more than my chod is worth.

one of those 4wd flat 4 Subaru Estates , cat C write off has been mentioned to me as needing a new owner  ... £150 in running order ,,,  I said yes ......

fingers crossed ...

They've left it on the ramp to finish it tomorrow! They have said it's all back together now, but need to finish it off tomorrow. So I guess either they've got to finish bleeding it or something has snapped off.

My biggest fear is on the gearbox. It's bunny hopping when pulling off is heat related. At the moment its perfectly manageable and ok. With the thermostat changed, it's going to run hotter (~95c rather than ~70c). Hopefully this won't mean it plays up all the time worse. I have said for them to keep the old thermostat but I suspect they won't be in a rush to put it back on again.

Probably should have left the thermostat as was. Let sleeping dogs lie and all that.

Not heard anything this morning. Either its been pushed to the back of the yard completed or they're still swearing at it.

EDIT: Just phoned them. Its just waiting for a road test but they're really busy at the moment.

Beware gumtree thats where danger lies. You have to be doubly vigilant on gumtree lots of door step traders selling wonky old crocks .

We use this one, there are many similar, possibly the same rebadged, at around that price.

Used it for a couple of seasons racing, will do our wheel nuts, maybe not everyones though.

Still enjoying Impreza ownership.

Getting a few more instances of rough running; toasted coil packs, j'accuse.

Scoobyclinic's getting the job of replacing the rocker cover gaskets. I can also get bottles of HKS Jinglish oil from the local ECP, which is nice.

Well it's in. Biggest single bill I've ever had. Admittedly the cost of the strut took up the majority of the cost of this job.

They test drove it and couldn't find any fault with the gearbox. However it's in stop+start traffic that it's the most noticeable and they probably didn't test too much of that. But then I'm probably over worrying about it and being too particular. As the Saab 9-5 that Hooli now owns and put 15k or so on...

Time to just use this as a car now.

That isnt too bad considering the part is half the bill. As you say get some miles on it and make it worthwhile

Today, I managed to get my Seat of glory (Exeo Tsi- surely future Autoshite?) running this morning after replacing valves and springs, a reet barstewerd of a job.

No sooner had I start putting the front bumper back on Mrs Bag comes home telling me the C Max (I know, not quite chod worthy yet) is vibrating. After telling her it should make her smile and getting a dirty look, found a caliper stuck and padz/discz buggered, further looking and swearing as I find a broken front spring and leaking front shock. £400 quid later, two cars not quite fixed until tomorrow and the drive looking like a breakers yard....

I know this is modernz, but needed a collective shoulder!

so, this happened yesterday:-

T787UEWNISSAN PRIMERA
Date tested24 April 2018 FAIL Mileage91,775 miles MOT test number6988 4899 5028 Test locationunavailable until further notice

Reason(s) for failure
  • Power steering component(s) leaking Rack (2.3.3b) Dangerous
  • Nearside Front Outer Front constant velocity joint gaiter insecure to the extent that it no longer prevents the ingress of dirt etc (2.5.C.1a)
  • Nearside rear brake binding (3.7.B.1)
Advisory notice item(s)
  • Offside Rear brake binding slightly
  • Rear registration plate deteriorated but not likely to be misread (6.3.1d)
  • Nearside Rear Tyre worn close to the legal limit (4.1.E.1)

now I am not competent enough to do the rack myself and the garage have said they are not available (does anyone know any different?).

Should I look to find a refurbished one or cut my losses and look for a new(old) car.

For it's age it is quite clean with a couple of scabby bits, is it saleable as spares or repair?

Replaced The Aero's front brake discs and pads over the course of yesterday afternoon and this morning, due to the existing ones being completey dickered:

I certainly got my money's worth from them!

All in all, a pretty easy job as I've been working on Teves front brakes on and off for twenty years, although I had to grind the head off the nearside disc's retaining screw with my Dremel, due to its Allen key slot being more round than hexagonal. The one on the driver's side was perfect and came off using orthodox means. Very odd.

Anyway, to celebrate I fitted a set of good used front wiper arms to the car (after a miserable attempt to repaint the existing pair at the weekend), along with a pair of Michelin 'hybrid' wiper blades, which were £7 each from Costco and look a lot better than the 'aero' type, which I think look terrible on old cars:

Next job will be the precautionary replacement of the crankshaft position sensor, which looks a right nightmare to get to. Wish me luck.

How bad is the leak ? You could steam clean it and take it elsewhere. One of my customers has an old Espace which leaks slowly (tops it up maybe twice a year) The rack is unavailable for it so I just steam clean it before taking it in. Power steering leaks always look worse than they are.

I have been topping up every couple of weeks knowing it was going for mot.

Apparently it is chucking out quite a lot especially on full lock.

Just noticed the front tyre treads on the Borat are both down to the minimum*

Feck.

I just noticed the Fabia has different sized tyres on the back. MOT test tomorrow. Feck.

Yesterday saw a fresh mot on the RCZ.

No mention of the modified (with zip ties) exhaust rubbers either.

Lol. Popped out today and had a nose in a charity shoppe in Kidderminster. Spied a small box with a load of baseball caps (I collect 'Los Angeles Raiders caps as adorned by 80s/90s rappers but they're so over-priced now) and spotted a 'Rover' cap in there. It was immidiately bought and now happily adorns my wall with my Rover sign;

This means I have almost the full Rover uniform, well, claret cap, claret t-shirt, and blue 'Rover' jumper.
