Got back from our short break in Holland this afternoon. It's the first time I've been and I really liked it. Despite the population density stats it didn't feel crowded at all, and on the whole the people seem relaxed and friendly.

Calais to Dordrecht took about 5 leisurely hours in the Astra dizzler, but that involved a few scenic detours off the motorways. I parked up behind this at the B&B!

Plenty of other chod about, but I didn't get the chance to go on a papping spree. This bike laden Avensis at Kinderdijk was worth a pic though.

The windmills were picturesque, but I was more interested in this pumping station built in 1972. Reminiscent of a Bond set or something.

Fuggin hot for the whole time, 32C today, but the trade off was some lovely evenings.

The Astra trundled on regardless of the heat, and did 660 miles at 61mpg. Eat that modern VAG. I cocked up on the way back though by running out of dizzle 4 miles from home. Considering how it was sipping fuel I assumed it would be OK for the last 30 miles just in the red. RONG! Mrs T wasn't impressed obviously, so we got a cab home, she then pissed off to the theatre, and I drove the Safrane over with a can and brought the Astra back. I'll collect the Renner tomorrow evening after work as it'll be fine where it is.

Another Dutch Ashtray.

Who is stealing Vauxhall grille badges these days?

Driving around recently I've noticed I see almost as many Insignias with their badge missing as ones with them still fitted, saw a new shape Corsa today with the same problem. Is there some sort of thriving black market for them or are they just really easy to pry off for shits and giggles?

I've noticed that, but up close on one or two has revealed a stealth black Opel badge instead.

People must hate their Vauxhalls so much, they pretend they're another Vauxhall with a Vauxhall brother's badge.

You on any medication, what was your fluid intake( non alcoholic) during the day like ?

Triple dosing on antihistamines and probably not enough water throughout the day. I reckon it was the heat.

I'm still the "winning" bidder, but there's still a day to go.

Pray for me.

Maybe someone with a spare eBay account could help?

I know we shouldn't be encouraging this sort of thing, but if someone else were to win, fail to make contact, then send a message a week later about how his pet gerbil bid by mistake, you would be able to politely decline the 2nd chance offer saying you had since made your own GWiz by putting some batteries in a wheelie bin.

The seller wouldn't suspect a thing seeing as that's how 99.5% of car sales on eBay go down anyway.

If the VX badge falls off, there's an Opel shape behind it ready to slot the chrome trim into which might be what you've seen.65b39fe25fa8fd1470c508c301bad596.jpg

It's Vauxhall, so GM would have saved a couple of cents by not sticking it on properly in the factory and so it falls off. :P

The badge falls of at 100,000 miles I think it's a feature.

Autoglass chap has re-stuck my rear view mirror on the Mondeo. He said well known that 90s Fiestas, Mondeo's and escorts have this problem.

Apparently the sticky pads aren't as thick as sticky as they used to be (what is, lol!).

Also he noted mine had been glued on in the past (not advisable) and some of the glue had run down into the mirror ball joint which made it harder to adjust, making it easier to snap off. Silicone lubricrant has made this better.

Ah, but fellow 90s Ford owners may be interested to know that OEM mirror pads are still available...

On my way to England tomorrow :(

Camping at Dieppe then on the morning boat to Newhaven. Then on to Kidderminster via Lambourn, Beenham and Harwell.

Taking my  408000km Jumpy (Dispatch) van, not expecting any problems, after all what's another 1000km.....

Would have been better taking the air conditioned XM.... but more room for proper beer and sausages in the van :)

On the other hand camping* in the van in this weather tomorrow wont be fun.

It it still classed as a barn / garage find if I knew it was there, because that's where I put it 10 years ago?

Now the Kallista has gone I have work space to rebuild this mk2 998 Cooper. Thread to follow, once it's fully exhumed.

Thank you, kind stranger. You don't realise what a favour you've done:

You obviously were not that out of it as you only bid £601, if you drunk self really wanted to drop you in the shit there would have been another 0 on the end.

Nice save.

Drunk me was still enough of a dickhead to stick the obligatory quid on to to make sure I'd beat anyone who bid a round £600.

TBH if I found a local one I'd be happy enough to pay that.

Last night I went to the railway society for a show, ironically on Trains in the Snow on the hottest day of the year! More to the point here, our guest speaker turned up in an immaculate G reg Saab 9000i :) One of those must be rarer than a snowflake in June ;)

I've just been banned from listing on ebay for 7 days. My crime was to put my phone number in a message about an engine I was selling for £30. My feedback rating totals over 3000, mostly selling, all positives. You'd think ebay could better employ their time, I'll be doing just that myself, probably just weigh it in.

Having lost one of the Nippa's hubnuts, I ordered up another. It's not the right size. *eye twitches*

Found the original nut! It was almost precisely where it should have been, albeit obscured by a bit of card I was sure I moved when first searching for it.

Anyway, we're done!

Same thing happened to me recently.  All I did was give my address in a PM for a collection only listing.  How else is the bloke supposed to find where I live?  It was for 20 quids worth of tyres, which he didn't buy in the end anyway.

Unbelievable.

I think the new system is writing your telephone number/address on a piece of paper - photographing it - and then uploading that to the 'gallery'.

Wastes a photo though which is annoying.
