Get a Jimny for off-roading.

A colleague of mine runs a local off-road club, so I joined their facebook group so I could go along and have a look sometime. My colleague and a heap of other members all have Jimnys. They're pretty heavily modded, mind.

Pretty much an SJ underneath & those things went anywhere.

Think it's about time I got a new car, the Rover is just to thirsty for around town work and won't fit on my drive. Requirements are:

Sub £1000

Focus size (driveway is 4.5m so should just fit)

Comfy seats

Air con

Thinking a Civic or Corolla would be the best bet at that price range?

I know of a diesel Focus, black leather, A/C on an 05 plate for that money.

Not sure if that model is the same, but never got on with Ford seats, my Dad had a mk.1 and they were too rigid, and the B-Max he has now is as comfy as a church pew

Went to look at that Cooper S auto.

Managed to catch it before it was washed and valeted which is good. It's Kent registered, and 5 keepers, but low miles (32k) while still being used consistently (checked MOTs - nothing untoward). Dealership's fitted two new Pirellis on the front as they were an MOT advisory, but it needs a set of brake discs. It was a bit tappy at idle when you first start it, but I think that's a TADTS and it just needs running in and an oil change. Famous last words of course.

It's a nice, honest car - interior is well kept and tidy - needs a clean, but nothing is worn and it's a bit more plush than ours which is povo inside. Giving it said clean should reveal a real gem.

No dents etc, only light kerbing on the very edges of the wheels, just needs some black trim wax and a good polish, there's a mark on the numberplate valance thing, a lone light scratch and a patch of weird discolouration on the passenger front corner, but nothing that can't be sorted with some elbow grease and T-Cut. A test drive showed nothing untoward, no rattles or noises that shouldn't be there. Sport button, paddles etc all work.

Aside from it being an S with half leather seats the spec is pretty much the same as ours except this one's pre-facelift so it just has a/c as opposed to auto climate, and the radio buttons are a bit different.

It's the Bini the mother wants, as opposed to just what was available (our red Cooper), and it's a bloody nice thing. At face value it's worth a similar price to ours (it's an S but it's three years older), maybe a bit less (up for £6890) but they want £1k to change. IMO they'd have less trouble flogging ours and we'd like to just swap, maybe give £500 but it's not that simple. First offer was car plus £1300 which we politely declined.

Handling is different and sharper as the suspension is sportier, but the ride's as good (you can tell it's trying to be civilised, and the Cooper is pretty sporty anyway - it certainly beats the A4 anyway) and the plusher sport seats are more comfy.

We think we'll have it if we can get Old Man on side.

I've had such a nightmare getting my Retro Rides photos online that I ended up putting them into a slideshow and then muttering about them. The good news is that you can mute it.

But does it have subtitles?

I've just agreed to buy an awful car in the dark. And it's a Volkswagen.

But it should sell well and easily, so fair play to you, especially since knowing you you bought it for buttons!

OK as long as I can sand the paint off and have a roof rack full of pineapples then sell it for 10k

Today the 320i ran faultlessly for many many miles.

then it FTP'd when I was going to Scotoshite. Had to take the Vectra instead.

its now swapped out with the 335..a bit more rapid.

I need to actually cobble together a working car as having a Vectra as the reliable fleet member is runbish

I got mine from Roys of Wroxham - probably not a lot of help for you, soz...

They do them on ebay though for not much more money.

I bought mine from the Southend branch of The Range. I imagine that every other store in the chain has them in stock.

.

It has its problems (Windows, for example) but will be priced accordingly. I would think £150 should do it, more details later when I've driven it.

Finally moving again. This train is grim though - if Autoshite did trains they'd definitely be Arriva trains

Proper ShiteRail would be BR vintage 1985 shirley? You can have anything you like as long as it's late and comprises Mk2 slam door coaches with splodges of primer, a Class 37 with duff ETH and a buffet car with a full stock of desiccated sandwiches and stale kitkats.

Community bus duty today has largely left me stranded in sunny Aberystwyth. Which was nice. Not as nice as this shambolic Seat Toledo though! Wow.

Nope. Sorry. It does look like a scene from the 1990s doesn't it? That's Aber for you.
