Dollywobbler's Invacar - Ongoing

I have watched it! Many props to Mrs DW for putting up with such shenanigans..

Also, with the blown exhaust it sounds like the world's largest stihl saw

She's one heck of a woman.

Turns out the exhaust is bespoke to the Invacar, and no NOS items remain. The complicating factor is the heat exchanger built into it...

Neil, you should donate a clio engine and running gear from one of yours for the spares one... That would be fun*

That's kind. I'll grab some pics. Don't think we'll be in the south over Christmas, but then we're not great at planning...

You are teaching them well. I am jealous that I missed out on such an education!

incorrect. The chap who had a stack of parts who sold them to a collector on the rumcar forum had hundreds of the things!

He apparently only has a few second-hand ones, and nearside downpipes (the one that's blown, naturally) he has only one, and he's keeping that for a pattern.

Wahey! It lives! Well done, Ian.

Sounds like it's just firing on one though... does it tick over at all?

It sounds like it's running on one because one downpipe has blown, so one side is chugging very loudly. I suspect that lack of back pressure isn't helping matters. May try an aluminium tape bodge solution for now, but I've got pretty much zero tinkering time before Christmas.

Mrs Wobbler does indeed appear to be a good egg vehicle wise. I showed the video to Mrs Beard in the hope of inpiring her but she just said 'hmmm, yes, lovely ' and wandered off. Maybe I need a hat/Invacar/beard/move to Wales.

I'm going to force myself to step away from the Invacar now. It was great to get it running, but I really need to show the rest of the fleet some love. Catch up time!

Thanks chaps! They're an absolute masterclass in how not to do things. Just wait for the next Lexus one...

how does a fiat nuova 500 get heat for cabin use? is it not a smilar arrangement?

Posted

Is it just me, or from the thumbnail does that cooling fan look to have been absolutely purpose made to remove your fingers during the first moment of even slight carelessness with the engine running...?

At least on the Beetle the moving fan was *behind* the stator wasn't it?

It’s alive! Very entertaining and well presented video, Top gear be affraid, very affraid!

GR12 work there Mr WollyDobbles. You don't need to sit in it now & make the brumbrum noises. Rachel was a damn good egg, and I hope you made the tea after her valiant work

Fiat 500 has an entirely different engine. I had hoped that the Steyr-Puch version might be similar, but it isn't. It doesn't seem to have a heat exchanger part, so presumably just uses heat from the engine cowling instead.

There was way too much wobbler arousal regarding:

1. Tyre tread
2. Horn noise
3. Engine note.

Other than that, crack on.

I am also reminded of the bit in Goldeneye where the American's Zapo breaks down.
